You can try getting it directly from MINIDSP. The company is bases in Hong Kong so rather than paying the freight from Asia to USA, you will be paying the freight from Asia to Canada. Of course there is the import tax and GST/PST...

Also, try the sellers on ebay.

The UMIK-1 is calibrated but not programmed. You would need to download the REW program.

Finally! Joining the family....grabbed one of the V1500 from the outlet. Paralysis from over analysis is now over. Thanks for your time Tom.

If the shipping gods are with me, I should have it a week from today.

My humble little 5.1 system, "Virtual Cinema" front, wall of sound config:
65" LG OLED
Yamaha TSR-7810
2 JBL Studio 580 Towers, 2 JBL 530 Bookshelfs, and a JBL 520C Center.

Glad to hear you made your decision and decided to move forward. I fought the same thing for a month or so because I didn't want buyer's remorse. But all my concerns were quickly put to rest once I got my PSA subs up and running. Even on a concrete slab, my V1811 subs provide low-frequency, kitchen-cupboard-rattling-above-the-theater bliss for movies AND great low-end depth for music. Tom, Jim, and their crew really deliver. Enjoy your V1500!

We'll have to check out that one. We did watch the remake of Point Break last night. The big wave scenes and explosion-triggered rock avalanche were pretty fun.

I was skeptical about the whole thing initially but made the jump as realize that it is a must for folks with capable subs that dig deep. It adds another element to the bass that I had not experienced before...the thread for BEQ is an awesome place foe help and to get the filters to enter...

I have been following along and checking out the before and after graphs. It sucks though that this needs to be done in order to enjoy ULF in certain movies.

The thing for me is I have had different EQ devices in the signal chain in the past and didn't really care for it. I am not sure if it's added delay but I always preferred the sound of my bass without it. Same thing goes for setting the audio to decode directly from the souce(Straight) instead of using a upmixer(dsp).

You are correct that the minidsp increased the sub distance but I did not note a degradation in audio quality.

Yep, I remember a few of your posts a year or 2 back about some issues you had with the MiniDSP and that's why I'm hesitating. I'm more of a purist, the fewer devices in the signal chain the better. Point A to point B in its purest form. It would be cool if someone can do a BEQ re-encode all of the movies they BEQ-ed and share it for everyone. I would be willing to throw some money into a pot for the person/group who would be re-encoding and uploading the new encoded material.

I don't think so. It is easier to find Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals with vendors with bigger mark ups. PSA doesn't have much room to play with.

Hey!
I haven’t pushed my subs in a while! Just wanted to post an update....mainly I’m treating the entire room that my system is in. It’s going to be a two month process but by February I hope to have all that done. I already have half the order in so I’m excited to see how it all turns out, I’m going with wine and black as my main colors.

Anyways, here’s a video of the sealed PSA subs in action.

Heh man

Great little video you put together..your a natural in front of camera you should do a YouTube channel/videos of your upgrade plans.!!!

Also I would stick rear speakers just behind the couch above head height to the side if you can, I know you said the kids might bump them, think you would lose a lot more if placing them on the walls which won’t be at equal distance.

How much sub do I need for a music only system? I like Barbra Streisand, Bob Dylan, Donna Summer, Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Otis Redding, Brewer and Shipley, blues, country. I don't think there are heavy bass demands in this music. I don't listen to bass a la @David Charles . Also no organ music.

In a large room, 24ft x 40ft open on both ends can I get away with an S1510DF? and then add another one if that is not enough? I would use it with a pair of MT-110s which are spec'd down to 70 Hz. I am leaning towards sealed as I don't have any of those yet. I have ported subs in my home theater set up. The dual driver S3010 might be nice but the dimensions are a little bigger than I want. If I have to go that way I will but this seems like a set up that doesn't require a lot of low base.

Spoiler!

Do you still feel that the tactile response was more prominent with the ported subs you had? What do you mean by the sealed having more "weight?"

If I have to go that way I will but this seems like a set up that doesn't require a lot of low base.
easy....S1811.

Agree 100%. These puppies have a certain weight that you describe that I didn't previously have with my four ported 15's.
As far as tactile response when I played that EOT intro at -6 it just about blew my pants off lol
I love these subs

Actually, it's when you have enough output from 10~17Hz (doesn't matter from sealed or ported), it sounds more weighted. If you are seated at the MLP, bass from 10~17Hz will shake the floor beneath you.

Tactile response has a lot to do with the floor material. Therefore, on a concrete slab, the ported still rules. On a suspended floor, one might be able to get enough TR from powerful sealed subs. Powerful ported on suspended floor is just brutal.

Its videos like David Charles's that are making me want to try sealed lol, I have dual v1500's (currently selling) but been itching to upgrade to 18's. I was leaning toward the v3611 but i keep seeing videos of the s36xx models and they have been making me want to maybe try the sealed we shall see!
