What AR are you using with your screen. I take that back about it being almost as big an upgrade. It is a revelation. It just looks correct.

Yes right now my screen is just chilling on my S3611’s my mourning kit arrived today as it is AT and the MTM 110’s will be behind the screen.

I heard B&C's 21inch neo's and they sound crisp and tight and they were powered by iNukes so PSA's ice amps are going to take it up a few notches. I think the neo's are going to exceed everyone's expectations. The Ipal's are better but in my opinion, a lot of that ( sound quality ) is going to depend on set-up/room and the material you throw at them. Don't get me wrong I would take the Ipals over the neo's too BUT I would also be happy with the neos.

Nice. Every time I see a 2:35:1 -2:40:1 screen it does take your breath away. Have you thought about making black velvet panels and install a clip system so when you watch 16:9 material you won't see the side grey bars.

Yes and yes but I need to move the projector mount. Get the speakers done right behind the screen and address other items first. The plan is to have the new low tuned subwoofers laying down under the screen and put the three 110s on stands on top of the subwoofers.

Hi,

I really felt that Hop would kick himself later if he didn't get the iPal's, so I'm very glad that he bit the bullet. But, I would have held off on encouraging you to move up to the iPal's until I saw the post I'm quoting. If you like to listen at Reference and you like to BEQ every movie, then I think you are going to want all the distortion-free headroom you can get. In my opinion, if you can afford to do so, you should absolutely move up to the iPal's.

But, if you are in any doubt about it, I think that you should discuss this with Tom. Just be sure to tell him that BEQing movies means significantly increasing the low-bass SPL.

Regards,
Mike

@CallingMrBenzo it seems like you're considering the IPALs, and I thought I'd point out something that hasn't been mentioned. From what I remember, the regular price for the IPAL is going to be $3600. The pre-order price (if still available) is $3000. That's a saving of $600, or $1200 if going duals.

You know yourself better than the rest of us so ask yourself this: do you think you'll eventually give in to the "what if" syndrome? If so, biting the bullet now may save you a decent amount of cash down the line.

@CallingMrBenzo (I'm calling you CMB from now on because I'm lazy) I agree with Mike Butny, I think the Neo version you have on preorder will be be a fantastic sub. So you really should feel good about those subs. I know it may seem like I randomly switched but I really thought hard about this decision and I actually had a number of reasons for doing so, they are:

1. Somewhere I either read or heard Tom say that the iPal is a rare driver. A driver like the iPal only comes around once in a great while... like seven to ten years.

2. As many of you pointed out, I tend to struggle with the "What ifs?" I know this, my wife knows this and most of you know this. So it's best I take that out of the equation now.

3. I'm really curious about these iPals. I really want them hammering away in my HT and I would hate not to have them.

4. These are my last subwoofers for a while (and I really mean it this time... honest ). So I figured I should get the best possible.

5. And of course there is the influence of AVS. Never underestimate that! (There is only one man I know immune to it and that's basshead).

6. To be honest, I asked for opinions for a reason, and a lot of guys I respect made very good points (both ways) but then when my wife and family supported the upgrade I knew I should do it.

Anyway... CMB I know this will sound hypocritical coming from me but I say stick with your original decision and stay happy. Unless you really have a number of good reasons (that you're comfortable with) to upgrade. Then do it.

Subwoofers: PSA TV36 iPal X2 ...Speakers: PSA MTM-210T L/R - PSA MTM-210C Center- PSA MT110SR's Surrounds - RSL C34E Atmos... Motion Actuators: Crowson Shadow 8 - X2
Video: Samsung UN65KS9000 4K SUHD - Oppo UDP-203... AVR:Denon X4400... Gaming: XBOX ONE S

CMB, might as well just get the Ipals, then you won't need to upgrade until the next latest and greatest comes around in 2-3yrs.

Not saying I wouldn't love to be in the position to just say yes.

I recently have gotten new theater seats, an Epson 5050UB and just changed to a 2:35:1 aspect ratio screen. So the wife would not be super happy to have me go up another level on the sub woofer when she already told me to get the middle level.
I can really appreciate your bird's-eye view of your system and experience with the varied changes and plans...

It's funny... you were both thinking the same thoughts and you were both right. The more I thought about it the more I knew I would have regretted not getting the iPals. It's just how I'm wired and judging by the level of sales for the iPal version apparently so are a lot of other guys.

Anyway, I started realizing I ran the very real risk of upgrading sooner or later (and more than one person pointed this out) so getting the iPals from the start was the smartest financial choice I could make.

At least that will be how I spin this for my wife... "Honey, in the end AVS probably saved us money."

Well......... you could. I ran into that same problem when I decided I wanted to upgrade. So I emailed him he got back to me in a few hours.

But yeah I think he's beyond busy right now. The count down has started, I think the end of the wait is in sight now.

Hey Benzodiazepine, email Tom about now, almost 10:00 PM ET he should be hanging out and would probably get right back to you......that's been my experience.......You mentioned you could have gotten away for $900 going with the standard TV36 so I'm thinking you're at about $1300 now with Neo, I suggest you reload the Matrix and go for the full iPAL Machine City $1700 end of the war version and call it the peacemaker......

As per my conversation with Tom, I am able to pick up one sub soon(ish) but the other one not until the end of next week or so and I think I was number 11 or 12. To make the drive for one, or just wait out the extra week or so and kill two birds with one stone? This is a time that I wouldn't mind throwing 2 stones After all, PSA is only 1 hr 15 min away.

In the first week, it should give me time to review some material and get a good feel for what these subs can do. I clearly remember what the v3601 can do, the v3601 AND the v1801 together, and what my dual s3611s can do, and have graphs saved on each, so I am expecting this to be a fun time. The two things that I am interested in at first is the sound quality, and how punchy they sound versus what I am used to.

Here are a few songs that I am going to play as soon as I get the sub(s) up and calibrated:

1. Behemoth- Demigod (amazing test for transient response in a sub plus I love dark metal)
2.Twice in a Blue Moon- Ferry Corsten
3. Lost in the Fire- Gesaffelstein/The Weeknd
4. The Dope Show-Marilyn Manson
5. Ghosts n' Stuff- Deadmau5
6. Psychadelic Addict- Anuka
7. Cymatics- Nigel Stanford
8. Lionheart- Phazz
9. The Logical Song- Supertramp
10. Fourplay- Bali Run
11. Felix Hell- Organ Sensation (a low bass monster of a song throughout, but particularly starting at 3 min. From 3:40 min to 4:00 my house shudders and also last 30 seconds)

A few movie clips:

1. Both fight scenes in TIH
2. Tron light race scene
3. RP1 first race scene and bomb blast
4. Max Mad Fury Road Intro and War Rig into storm scene
5. 13 hours mortar scene
6. Aquaman freeing the trident scene
7.Overlord intro
8. Hunter Killer beginning
9. Various 20 hz hits from The Nun
10. Hacksaw Ridge- Naval ship clears Ridge
jamiebosco, Sekosche and subacabra like this.

Make the drive, make the drive! The rest of us want to know what these beauties sound like ASAP.

^^ I really don't think it would do any of us any good to say you should wait and get them both at the same time because I seriously doubt you would be able to to do that. I think you should accept the fact you'll be making two trips. If I lived that close I think I'd be making two trips.

Having said that I'll give it a shot. Setup wise, time wise and work wise it makes sense to wait. That's it.... that's all I got... I can't come up with anything else. Might as well go warm up the car.
