The new V15s with the new drivers should sound pretty awesome...I think I enjoyed them a bit more than the V1801s , but the midbass on the 1801s was hard to ignore...

I thought I would escape the upgrade thing but the new drivers for the V18xx's have my interest
Same here on once again looking into updates or upgrades. We'll see how it plays out

*The 21" cube w/ radiator sounds amazing for the footprint but steep $$

*Update to my 2 S3000i? But have seen a few comments from Tom that trade in and get new may be a better choice-dont know how that would be since I have original/1st run S3000i (squared corners) so not sure how much trade is there. Upgradng drivers may be more economical is the performance is there.

Finally, I dont have FB either but you dont need to. Just use this link-it will ask you to log in, just click "Not Now" and the pop up will go away.

Kinda figured you misread it ...I do believe Tom threw that 4K number out before...I wouldnt expect anything under a $3K pre-sale price!

Sorry if this is a dumb question. I don't want to bother Tom. Anyone know the difference between the V1512df and the V1512? Thanks.

DF , Down Firing ....Sub basically looks like a cube with the driver facing down..The regular has the a forward facing driver...very similar performance , some people prefer the DF to prevent any accidents with kids , animals etc , as the driver is a bit hard to reach!

The V1512df is downfiring, and the V1512 is front-firing. I believe the V1512 has a slightly larger cabinet and tuned slightly lower as well.

My humble main system:
Vizio M75-E1; Oppo 203 universal UHD player; Denon 4300H AVR, Dual PSA S1801's; Monitor Audio Silver RX-6 mains, RX center, and RX surrounds; one pair NHT mini Atmos speakers; Home-built HTPC (Xeon E1230, 16gb RAM, Crucial M500 480gb SSD, GeForce 980Ti, Corsair CX600, CoolerMaster mini-ITX case); Roku Premiere+; Amazon 4K Fire TV

It's REW + MiniDSP weekend!

I saw REW has the ability to add a house curve within the EQ function. I should NOT use that, right? I should just EQ flat, then run Audyssey, then if I want to add a house curve later I can do it as a post-Audyssey adjustment? (or just use RSC, which I have set at medium?). Audyssey would just take it out, correct?

Also I'm trying to see how to add a high pass for very low content to protect my ported subwoofers, but I only see a 12db/octave slope which is way too soft (it would interfere with higher content). How would I add something steep and deep? I'm just trying to make sure it doesn't attempt to play stuff that is like 8Hz.

Your sub already has a HPF in its dsp from PSA. That’s not necessary for you.

Marantz 7011- Panasonic UB-820- Xbox One X - Epson HC 5050UB *Calibrated by ChadB* - Elite Screen's 2:35:1 AT 115' - PSA MTM 110's L/C/R - Mixed Surrounds - SVS Elevations Atmos X2 - Dual PSA VT36 B&C Neo's *MiniDSP HD* Took the Red Pill BEQ

Thanks! I made a post in the REW thread so I won't fill this one up with super specific stuff. The guides and videos are super helpful for getting setup, but they seem to stop after the basics and searching AVS yields a lot of conflicting information haha.

Right on. I need to change my sig line but I just replaced one of my DIY 500 watt 12" single coil sub, using the same cabinet, with a 1000 watt 12" dual voice coil sub. LOL The gain is at like 2.5 or something insanely low. But anymore and it's too much for my living room. LOL

I did just attend the Parts Express annual tent sale and, much to my wifes chagrin, a new 15" sub driver and new cabinet await assembly in the dining room. Can't wait. Haven't decided if I'll power it with my 1000 watt plate amp or my Behringer KM750 and keep it passive. Decisions, decisions.

Sorry, it‘s inevitable with all new releases, but I’d talk to Tom if you’re interested in upgrading; with the 60 day trial, you’d just be out return shipping if you want to upgrade or even possibly look into just the drivers themselves.

I sent him an email just now regarding estimated pricing to upgrade my V1801 drivers.

Yeah, the logistics of shipping the cabinet are such a pain that I'd probably be more likely to do a driver swap (and reprogramming of the DSP if that is necessary) if there is a big improvement. Truthfully though, I don't need more headroom if that's what it gives and sound quality wise I'm very happy. I'd have liked to obviously get the latest, but, not too bummed.

I listen to AVRant Podcast and Tom on there says after you buy something you have to stay off the internet for like a year lol. Probably should have taken his advice haha.

Tom emailed me back and said he’s still working on the logistics for driver upgrades in the field. Might possibly have something by today or this week.

That is true about staying away from here to avoid the upgrade bug. Curiosity will definitely get the best of your wallet. If you’ve got all the output you need, and are content with their sound, log off AVS.

I’m just interested in upgrading, because I’ve gotten several good years out of my V1801’s and am really enjoying the sound signature of a recently added 21” neo driver to my system.

I spent a lot of time this weekend re running Audyssey and tinkering with the system and I am finally a VERY HAPPY GUY! I spent some time yesterday and today listening to various "demo scenes" I have all of the gut punch I was looking for with JW2 and the Accountant. I have some RTA graphs to go with the scenes I watched. All clips were play at 0.0 MV unless otherwise noted ie. FF8 is at -3MV per the BEQ recommendation.

I did the Ready Player One race scene with BEQ and without, BEQ adds a ton of weight to the sound and is another level. People if you have good equipment I HIGHLY recommend adding a MiniDSP and get on the BEQ train.

Cool! Don't forget Blade Runner 2049! I think that's one of the nicest sounding movies. The bass has a lot of weight but also a lot of detail.

I feel like bass is already mixed pretty hot in movies, I feel like BEQ might overpower everything. I guess I've never really looked into it in any detail.

BEQ does not make any movie "overpowering" if anything it regulates all movie mixes to a certain target level of bass -15DBFS, in many cases huge peaks are tamed to the target level and low bass is brought up to the target level. You will not see huge peaks over -15DBFS, and you can tune your system appropriately. Most people that have used house cures have removed them as all the movies are "fixed" and its no longer necessary. If you have not spent time reading the BEQ thread please do so. The guide is extremely well written and thought out. The process and goals are explained in detail. I think too many people have the wrong impression of what BEQ is.

My favorite series so far is Fast and Furious, if you look at the graphs they are no bass movies with poor sound reviews on Blu Ray.com, as per my posted graph at -3 MV it has the most bass from 10 to 20 hz which is my the range of bass I enjoy the most. I am so happy having my TV3612's (Neo's) finally dialed in. The out put in the low bass range is fantastic and BEQ brings new life to movies and time after time rewards my buying decision with the low tuned sub offering.
