Just starting my subwoofer journey after lurking here and saving for a few years and finally pre-ordered dual V1812s.
I'm very excited, but also second guessing my decision; especially while I wait another month for these to ship.
My question is...
Would I be better off buying a single TV3612 (for slightly less money than dual V1812s)? Adding another sub later on is unlikely to be an option; so it's my intention that this will be my first and last sub purchase for years to come.
I understand I might have fewer placement options due to its size and a more uneven frequency response without another sub to smooth things out. On the upside, it looks like I might hear/feel a lot more 10-20hz stuff for the content that has it. (side-note: I don't really want to buy a MiniDSP just for BEQ, so hopefully Plex will support BEQ transcoding some day)
For some background: our fledgling home theater (family room style) is used for movies and music in a 14'2"W x 13'L x 7.7'H (1,397 cu ft.) area of our basement, but is completely open on the right side to the rest of the house (worst-case ~15,000 cu ft. of air depending on open/closed room doors). There is a sub floor on the concrete with laminate, plywood, and a rubber underlayment for moisture. I'm using a Denon X3400H and stereo RBH SV-61R speakers with plans to add two surrounds and a center channel.
To achieve decent tactile feedback from ULF in my space on the cheap, I might consider building a couple BOSS mini-risers down the road. Perhaps the TR from a single TV3612 would be enough? I'm not sure with my space, but I just received a UMIK-1 today; so I'll start learning REW to get a better idea of the acoustics I'm dealing with and help me place the subs.
Thank you all for sharing your experiences and expertise around here, I've already learned so much. Can't wait to hear what I've been missing!
