Hi all,

Would really appreciate any input ASAP as to whether this is a good offer? I am struggling to find the value of this sub in a faulty condition and even in used working condition is quite difficult.
The fix sounds pretty simple, the amp is creating audable hum but works.
I am hoping to get the price down under $200, but either way is this a deal you would jump for?

Thanks

IMO, a gently-used Servo-15v1 in working order should sell for ~$500. I wouldn't buy one that's faulty, but if I were to consider it, I wouldn't pay anywhere near $275 for it.

Are they really worth so little, one just went here for $700

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Paradigm-Reference-Home-Theater-15-Powered-Subwoofer-Servo-15-/151060343281?pt=Speakers_Subwoofers&hash=item232be5e9f1&autorefresh=true

It's almost certainly a capacitor problem and should be quick, cheap and easy to fix. How much would people value one in such a condition to be?

Maybe $600 for a minty-mint unit, maybe, but not more.

IMO, and YMMV. smile.gif
That one has a rosenut finish, which is usually (and probably also was) an extra-cost option, so the vendor is likely just trying to recover that additional cost.

Okay so if it doesn't sell within 1 week it is agreed I can have it for $170 shipped. Pretty sure that's a sweet deal now.

If you're sure the problem is one that is fixable for relatively little money, I agree that $170 (shipped) for that sub is a pretty good price.

Cheers will do, came in even better in the end at just $155. Will be very interesting to see how it performs compared to my current sub, a 15" Ascendant audio driver in a 300L tube tuned to 15.5Hz.

You may have even better luck. The last hum I had with a sub was eliminated by lifting (removing) the safety ground on the power plug.

You accomplish the same thing by lifting the ground at one end of the interconnect, except you don't raise the possibility of electrocution should there be an internal fault in the amp.

Agreed NEVER disconnect the ground from a power plug or are asking for serious trouble.

Ok so this is an interesting one. The amplifier is now working but is not able to put out the 400W continuous power stated and is considerably far off at 270W. This is due to the undersized transformer which is only 420VA. I'm starting to wonder if it has been previously repaired with a smaller sized transformer but the toroid is a paradigm part. If anyone has any info or can confirm is this is the case I'd be grateful to hear as this is quite shocking Paradigm would exaggerate their rated power specs to such a degree.

FYI
Mine was fixed by my sending the board to Paradigm in Toronto (in 2013)
They changed the capacitor on the board & the 240V fuse - cost $60

Boards are no longer available
