I had to come back to this thread to look at them again. I wonder if Dave would offer a 4 15" system? There is no way I could pull off 8 15" subs but 4 with 7k watts might me a strong possibility...

Congrats again!

I do have a few questions about your room. Do you have more pics of the room itself? I'm particularly interested in your doors. And I might have missed it, but what speakers are you running? Rest of your equipment? This is to satisfy my own curiosity.

Thanks!

Subscribed. I'm definitely interested to know what your experience is with those subwoofers (they're different, which is right up my alley ).

About a year ago I sent PM's and emails to Dave inquiring about a unit for review, but I never heard anything back. Intrigued by his designs and claims I then sent an inquiry to actually buy a Blackbird, just so I could hear one for myself, but still nothing. At that point I reasoned maybe they weren't available so I stopped pursuing it, but the entire ecosystem he built (amp, DSP, sub) still fascinated me, so I always kept a weathered eye on them.

You're the only person I've run across who actually has one of his systems, so I'm anxious to hear what your assessment is once you have a bit more time with them.

I would appreciate that PM. Those JBLs look sweet, especially the LC2s. Congrats again on what I'm sure is an amazing sounding system. I agree on the waiting for 4K; just doesn't seem like there's enough reason to spend the money.

@Jim
Yah Jim Dave wasn't very forthcoming with me either. It took a couple years for me to get the first system so I'm not surprised he didn't even respond. He revealed very little up until he said they were ready. Plus Dave has been doing this on the side. He just loves subwoofers and to experience the whole BW on soundtracks so he has been building them for his own personal use for all these years.

He does want to sell more, but he made sure every little detail was perfect and exactly as he wanted before even thinking about it. As you can see from the pics he accomplished that.

As far as reviews go I don't know if he'll do that. He's not a big fan of CEA testing since its one frequency as opposed to a soundtrack covering multiple frequencies all the way down to 3hz at varying levels. That's why I have Speclab graphs. It's actually pretty amazing to see what the subs are reproducing compared to what was on the soundtrack. I was running my subs hot too.

I'm the only one with a Raptor system 3 at this point. He will be selling more I'm just not sure how many though. He told me he'll have the new website up soon with pricing so it might not be too long others have them.

@Rowan
I'll shoot you a pm this week about the doors and thx again. Yah 4K will have to be reasonably priced, i.e. less than $10k, and readily available for me to buy.

@Gorilla
Yah the BB's would be amazing with two full stacks!

The DIY bug hit me hard and I've been enjoying the ride ever since.

Congrats on your recent acquisition. Dave and Paul are cool to kick it with, so I bet you had a great time with them.

Congrats on the system man, absolutely beautiful (*tear*). Dave (and Paul) have reached VIP status ever since we started the DIY forum for a good reason. He's been my inspiration for awhile now and I'm trying to design/build something to be at least HALF as good. Kudos for posting your experience, it is greatly appreciated.

I don't mind if someone doesn't like the design, but if you don't no need to post here right?? I can't remember the last time I posted in a thread just to say I didn't like that particular product? Oh yah that's right I never have because it's asinine...

As far as paying $20k for 4 18's and a limiter...no comment

@pop
Hahahaha that's an understatement if ever I saw one. You're a madman. These 8 15's would destroy my home if I turned them up all the way for every movie. 32 18's....wtf man haha. Though if the SI's were out then I prolly woulda recommended 16

Yah Dave and Paul coulda stayed for awhile they were the coolest houseguests ever. My wife and step-daughter loved them and all you need is female approval to know you're aight.

@MikeE
Thx man. Yah just shoot Dave an email and see what he says. I think he does/is willing to do international.

@VX
That's awesome man!! So you've known them for awhile. They really are great to hang out with. They were just great company. I'm hoping to visit them in a year or so and check out Dave's system.

@Gorilla
I agree.

Actually, a cylinder is a brilliant sub design compared to a conventional box. IMO, a cylinder makes for a more inert design and thus, should produce better sound?

I might be talking out of my rear, but I thought I remembered a conversation many moons ago on the SVS design. Anyway, congrats on the subs! I'm sure they sound as impressive as they look!

Thanks Mike.

I don't believe a DO design in a cylinder is any more inert than a conventional box design, but Dave has said since there's no bracing whatsoever there are also no unwanted resonances. How much you would hear that as a sound I'm not sure. Even if you don't like cylinder subs though these are not even on the same level as far as finish with anything commercially. My wife loves them so much she's getting one for the living room.

The sound....I laughed for 5 mins yesterday when I played TIH sonic cannon scene. The room is so dead all you hear is the bass. Nothing rattles, yet. It's just loud, clean, deep bass. This is the first time I heard a flat response and I like it. Nothing is exaggerated.

Also -- if I remember correctly -- the dual-opposed cylinder enclosures do not require internal bracing, which keep material and shipping costs lower than a heavily-braced thick-walled box. Another consideration is that the drivers are always going to be equal distance to corner boundaries, which can really help make for easier placement. I might recall something about the top/down-firing DO configuration alleviating off-center driver sag, but I don't remember if that is really a thing. Regardless, I always thought that the cylinder DO sub is pretty clever and these certainly are very well designed and made.

Congratulations to you and well done to the Bossos.

@WTF
Thanks and you're right except for the sag I'm not sure about. Also the closer the driver is to the ceiling you would get another boundary gain. If I had 8ft ceilings I would've seriously considered two full stacks of the BB's.

@datranz
Thanks and yes they sound amazing. I'm listening to them right now but I might have to either get some higher quality dl's or buy one of those CD player thingy's...these deserve better quality music haha.

Dunno if anybody's seen it, but the thread on this amazing sub system at the Data-Bass.com forums has a bunch more info on the system specs, as well as info on the upgrades to the "clone" amp, plus the very interesting tidbit that the amp used for the system is for sale waaaaaaaaaaaay cheaper than what I would expect.

7200W+ output with a 30A line, upgraded componentry & heatsinks on everything, custom bossobass graphics, flat response to 3Hz, and all for $1700? Simply amaaaaaaaazing! I sound like a salesman, but I'm really just so bowled over by this price and the specs on this monster!
