Nathan's samples just arrived last week, I am deciding between the charcoal black and two grays. By 'I', I actually mean my girlfriend. I am putting these monsters in my living room (no dedicated theater), so I figured I would compromise and give her a win by getting to choose the finish haha

Got pics of the room with all the furniture showing the colors, etc? Then I will give you my opinion of which one I like.

I really like the 2 colours in the middle of the top row (black and the very dark brown)
Personally I wouldn't get a grey subwoofer as it might make for a tougher time if you ever chose to sell, just IMHO though

Just to be semantically correct, girlfriend not wife When I ordered these her exact quote was "I guess I am not getting a ring this year, I expect my ring to be valued in multiples of these subwoofers" hahaha

I am not sure if high polish finish is an option or not for me. As you can imagine these are expensive and I told Nathan I want to minimize cost with regard to finish options.

These are going to the grave with me. I talked with Nathan at length of builds including dual 21", dual 24" etc. the cabinet size is what is limiting performance and I am at the maximum size my home(or most homes for that matter) can accommodate without building a house around a sub haha. My only concern would be if I moved to a new house and had to integrate them with a new decor in which case the charcoal black finish makes the most sense.

Negative, those are Canton. Really great speakers!

haha a gloss black finish on a cabinet that size would run a pretty penny and I'm out of pennies

You know black goes with everything but if you had to choose from samples....I prefer the 2nd one on top row myself. My funks are textured black which saves costs as well and are not veneered, looks like matte semi-gloss paint since its very smooth finish unlike jtr or psa textured finish.

I agree with the second one in the top row. It’s black to go with anything and it has some transparency to still see the wood grain.

I’m not your girlfriend so I guess it doesn’t matter. Lol.

I concur with the last two posts, Out of the two greys and the black second in on the top row,,,, black hands down, i think it will not only look the most impressive, but be more versatile of the three choices. For "my' taste some of the other examples are really sweet but are moot in this situation. Cant wait till their reality.

@Todeseng3l. Congrats on new your subs. Please don't forget to post the pictures and your review once you have them in few months time.
Nathan is awesome to work with.

You will rock the house for sure, I see that you are setup on the main floor of the house that will rock everything haha. Also better have a neighborhood party before you turn them on.

Will do, going through sub withdrawal right now I have been sub-less since March when I sold my pair of S7201.

Luckily for me, my house is centered in the middle of 5 acres- a lot of land is a requisite for me when purchasing a house so I can turn it up whenever I want

Man we have similar situations. Like you I'm in full sub withdrawal (subless since late February) and like you I live in the middle of acreage (I live in the middle of 12 acres) so once the new ones arrive I can let them rip whenever I feel like it.

But based on what you have being made right now you may need a lot more than five acres.

Yes all in good fun. Todeseng and i have become friendly and communicate almost daily about our audio addiction and system issues. Nice to bounce ideas off each other. Only thing is the dude encourages me to ding up my bank account pretty hard. LOL

I know he is suffering being subless and I look forward to heading back to his home to audition the Funks once they arrive and are dialed in.

Yes, be careful as it's clear he has an budget most of us cant touch lol. If you get caught up in it , you like Chris Farley,,, may end up living in a trailer down by the river,,, but with one hell of a system.

I'm jealous for those who have great audio enthusiasts buddies living close enough to mingle and check out each others set ups. I'm the only one i know of where i live or anywhere that has the same audio interest of those on avs. people around here hate bass

Nathan is really excited about these new ultra-low ported designs! In the past he has never been fully happy with ported in direct comparison to his sealed designs. He has me excited now! I'm starting to do math on what I can sell. SMH

This ULT design is scalable for a single 21" or 18" driver. That is good news for "normal" folks who would rather have 2 or 4 smaller (relatively) subs vs 1 or 2 monstrous ones, respectively.

The lesson I learned years ago was never to assume a Funk sub is out of your price range. Nathan has a variety of drivers and finish options to work with. Even his non-veneered, black painted cabs look better than everyone else's standard finish (except Seaton, who's standard finish is a veneered maple now... no non-veneered anymore). I also learned that my wife can spend way more money than I can. Once I involved her in Funk "furniture" shopping the budget limitations ceased to exist!

I am finishing up my media room at this very moment. Pics and measurements will be forthcoming (probably next Friday). Moving to the 3.4Ds (2 wides & 4 surrounds) has really opened up the space which had previously felt cramped (room is 13⅓ft wide). I still can't believe I own speakers with the SQ of the 12.2HPs. Pinch me!

To accommodate all of this subwoofer firepower (2x15.h & 2x21.0LX… which was dimming upstairs lights with each bass hit) I have installed a 40A 240V subpanel and two 20A 240V circuits to dedicate to the Funk and D-Sonic amplifiers. I also have a 240V Tripp Lite pure-sine UPS to feed the projector and SSPs.

… back to work for me

I know he is suffering being subless and I look forward to heading back to his home to audition the Funks once they arrive and are dialed in.
Lol this son of a bitch introduced me to new dealers and encouraged me to spend way too much, he is the one you have to watch out for haha!!! Then he used me as a test dummy with some power regeneration **** from PS Audio that didn't work out in my system (although pretty cool idea in principle to use an FPGA to create the 'perfect' sine wave coupled with extremely low output impedance). Nevertheless it's hard to find people that are into this stuff locally (none of my friends get it) and I am happy to have a new friend in @flat4 .

To be fair, I really enjoyed my single SVS PB13 Ultra at my old place. At the time I wasn't into measurements or room correction for that matter, however, I preferred its sound to the dual S7201 that I sold to flat in my current home. Keep in mind these were different rooms (*houses*), I doubt the SVS PB13 Ultra would have held a candle to the dual S7201 in my current room. That's what gave me the urge to go back to vented and to build one of the craziest vented systems I could afford with Nathan.

My comment was tongue in cheek.

I was referring to SVS's
"45 Day Risk-Free In-Home Trial.Fast & Free Shipping and Returns." to help pass the time.

Ahhh, that one flew past me! Long week at work. That would be funny, I could tell them I was auditioning it against the Funks and well it just couldn't compete
