As i mentioned in responding to your PM,,, Nathan has pre-programmed different settings. Best results (for me) were to have the All-DSP set at "No EQ" then i run my AVR room correction. Post Audyssey set my X-overs, speakers to small. For movies i use the "Home Theater" setting,,, Music,,, "music" setting,,,, setting the appropriate gain for each and i'm done and very happy with the results.

Sorry,, a little confused on you quoting me? Maybe you were responding to my comment to todeseng3l about his issue?

Nice...if you end up going 24.0E...in the meantime you'll have the Rythmik F18 and S18 IPAL....will tie you over, I suppose. 🙂

I have a 18.0LX coming for the office but for entertainment room I currently have a pair of the F18's up front but I am considering another sub closer to seating position for TR.

Ok...did you return the S18 IPAL?

I remember you spoke highly regarding it..but you had some reservations about the amp. Hopefully the 18.0 LX meets or exceeds your expectations and opens the door for some future TR in your entertainment room.

Funk 18.0E is high on my list but trying to decide if one would be sufficient for my Living room which is about 30’ x 15’ (living/dining open area) +open to kitchen and foyer with vaulted ceiling peak at 15’ . We sit about 13.5’ from TV and LCR, Subwoofer. Currently have a Linn Sizmik 12” sub next to the left front. I doubt mixing the 2 would be ideal...Never tried 2 subs and trying to understand the difference two would make in this room.

Assuming an average ceiling height of 12' for the entire 30x15 area, that means there's approximately 5400 ft^3. While the Funk would be much better than your current 12" subwoofer that's likely too much space for a single 18.0E. You should consider a pair instead.

If you take yourself too seriously expect me to do the exact opposite.

BTW, did you really need to quote the entire post?

As I read through the thread I am trying to get an idea of the sound signature of the Funk 18.0E. My plan is to move from my 12” to dual 18’s so this will be a massive difference in output. My main objective is a clean tight low end which will render drums, especially, realistically without booming or bloated bass. As a drummer this is most important part ;-) I read things about other Sub manufacturers claims as musical, servo, etc. With Funk it seems their attention to detail on sound and finish quality is second to none...thoughts.

with any speaker or sub that is thousands of dollars, its critical to know what it sounds like. with funk, I have never seen a bad take/review/quote...so I assume they sound great in all situations/rooms. for music many swear by rhythmik, movies

jtr. but funk on another level price/quality wise.

Thanks for the quick response! I just read my post and realized a major typo which I just edited:

Nathan in the past used excellent drivers like TC sounds 5400 + 5100 pro series and units from Acoustic Elegance....I owned a latter in a ported funk design.

It had a such unique sound especially on the kick drum...tight accurate, punchy it's pitch was very distinctive when we compared it to much larger Hsu vtf 15h and svs pb13u.

I was sort of chasing my tail with a few other subs tring to recapture that same experience....and why I decided to go back to FA. My 18.0c really does justice to percussion...I'm a huge Tool aka...Danny Carey fan...

Funk is well known for being hands on...building everything in house...I doubt he would've ventured down that path... if he wasn't looking for something on par or perhaps better in certain terms or aspects from the driver's he used in the early days.

You can't go wrong with Funk at all. Dual 18s are gonna have much more output over 12 inch for sure but you will also gain much more accurate, clean, tight bass. You will be in for a surprise!

While Rythmik is good for your money, Funk is just in another league quality wise. You will probably never sell these! Unless you upgrade to larger driver or go with ultra or pro models which offers even better sq and lower distortion across the board and more output. Long story short, I think you will be very happy with dual 18.0e.
