Yes, I am getting two of them (for now). I'm sending 1500 to each 215 at the moment so maybe it'll be a little more boost. My plan with the Cap's is to x-over the 215 anywhere from 40-80 (maybe higher) to see which sounds best, with movies. I currently have the 215's running full range sharing the LFE with my 2 SVS sub's.

I don't listen to too much music at the moment but I plan on doing that later. With music I prefer running the 215's full range without subs....it sounds sweeter to me. However, I'm 95% movies so I want as much "umph" as I could get so I decided on the Cap's, along with the fact that there have been great reviews (from the forum) on the Cap's.

Have you been boosting the bass on the 215's or just running them flat?

And I agree, full range is the way to go for music.

Nope....no bass boosting or house curve. However, I'm seriously considering a mini dsp ddrc-88a for Dirac and the ability to create a target curve to my liking.

Woah.... the difference in the amount of bass between running the 215's flat and boosting them is massive!!

I would say that maybe you should try boosting the bass on the 215's before buying subs.... but on second thought you should crank up those Caps AND crank up the bass on the 215's.

^^ agreed.. The 215's puts out lots of bass. Shocking actually. Can't wait for the results on them. Looking forward to the results of the 215's, S2's, and OS LFU's..

So what are you using to boost your 215's? Perhaps I could give it a try myself.

basshead81 is the 81 in your name for 1981? If so, crap, there was something in the water that year - I just was forced to order two Cap1400's yesterday myself ;-)

Not looking forward to trying to resell a PB13-Ultra, may just have to list it on CL and say "must come pick it up yourself, I can barely lift the thing without a dolly!"

The FV has it by 2db at 12.5hz for Max Burst...what am I missing?

And Cap 1400 beats FV15HP by 4.9 dB @ 16 Hz, 4.8 dB @ 20Hz, and 4.5 dB @ 25Hz....

No argument there. Given the size and ~$800 price difference, I would expect it to. It's a fantastic sub.

But bass said it beat it at all frequencies, which is why I brought it up.

And of course we can all assume if Jeff wanted to design a cabinet with variable port tuning like the FV15 it would crush it at 12.5hz also.

And if Brian wanted to build an FV18, given the FVs performance compared to other ported 15s, it's likely that he'd have another top of class product in the 18in ported category.

Your point is as silly as mine.

Quite a bit if you did not look at the other measurements. Not trying to discredit the FV but when JT steps in this thread to point out a slight difference @ 12hz to help aid his own insecurities I have no problem giving him a hard time.

It was just in good fun...lighten up were only talking sub woofs here.

PS, the difference is actually 1db when you factor in that the limiter was turned off during testing for the FV. Also when you factor in compression, thd, and port noise, I bet the Cap is superior everywhere...especially down into the low teens where the FV is heavily underported and exhibits a bunch of port noise as Ricci pointed out. There is more to a sub then max burst numbers.

Far as the FV18...well if, and, buts were candy -n- nuts we wouldn't need Christmas. Lol

The easiest chart for most people to interpret is max burst. Not so much the other charts, so that's why most automatically refer to that one. Then there are others like yourself who analyze every single chart to fully understand what the data means that Josh compiles. Just sayin....
