Hey honey, I am buying a new freezer but I can't promise if it will not be as quite as our old one and if you hear it let me know, I will turn down the compressor but just don't come into the room where the freezer is at. Much appreciated.

I can just picture it now...

Call Center: "Your house was leveled by a movie?"
Asim: "In a manner of speaking, yes."

Call Center: "So you're trying to tell me that your house was annihilated by a stereo system?"
Asim: "Yes!"

Call Center: "Is this some type of joke?"
Asim: "No! I was using JTR Orbit Shifters and Deep Sea Sound Mariana's, but when the Pod emerged all hell broke loose and my house crumbled to the ground!"

Call Center: "Orbit Shifters? Pod emerges? Have you been drinking sir?"
Asim: "No, this is real!"

I wouldn't recommend running them together, I'd expect the sealed and horn subs to sound pretty different.

I know audio memory isn't very reliable, but I'm pretty sure you've experienced a few very capable sealed systems over the past year or so. This may help jog your memory somewhat though...

However, I will say that a near field 24" vs a 18" really is a significant difference.

How fast can you get here??

I won't have too much time to play next few days...just found out my tenant abandoned my condo without any warning...big headache screwing up my schedule...so ticked off...and busiest time of the year for me with work too.

Hopefully I'll get a chance sooner and move the shifters out of the room and try the 24s up front...I may try to run all 4 subs together first though...nearfield the 24s on the back wall or side under my wides...won't be able to push it since only two outlets are 20A and all the other outlets are 15A.

I disagree, I've been over to Doug's place (d_c) many times when he "just" had a pair of G-horns. At the KC HT crawl he had a sealed 24 to go along with the G Horns and IMO they were dialed in very well and it was significantly more impressive running sealed with the horns. I'm sure the suspended floor helped.

Besides the difficulty in dialing them in for a temporary setup, I also know Asim doesn't have enough circuits to really run both sets of subs. But I can imagine that both subs working together would be impressive, scary impressive.

Two of the Kaiju (aka Marianas) monstrosities arrived today...big thanks to @COACH2369 for helping driving them and help lug them into my house. First impressions on just the look...excellent finish...would have high waf approval even with the size...which reminds me of a 47" tv...except for the depth of course...so could easily fit into many setups very easily...especially anyone with an AT....Comparing sizes, this is 2/3 the size of the OS LFU cabinet. Can't wait to hook these up! Thanks @dgage for the early xmas present!

Oh boy...these things are going to need some sub crawling in my room. Just plugged in wires from my os to the 24s...and took sub level from -10 to 0 on my avr...left the amp gain at what they arrived set at. These sealed subs have a very different sound than what I'm used to. @dgage where do you think I should place them since you've seen my room?

Like the logo on the amp btw.

Thanks for dealing with the Kaiju. But I thought you were a photographer...what sort of photo is that?

So I let Asim borrow a couple preproduction Mariana 24SR subs that Brolic will get next to prove his screen won't move with them behind it. But the main reason I'm moving inventory to DC is this will be two less subs to move prior to the Capital Audiofest.

I'd probably start with them between the left/center and center/right. That's where I've run them for shows and where they were located in Coach's room. Do you have Audyssey (or similar) enabled from your OS setup. If so, that will definitely affect the sound. But realize, even without any DSP enabled, I think the sound will be very different than what you're used to with your OSs.

In regards to the different "Sound," from your g2g there was strong peak at around 35hz that Ironhead and I were seeing when running the sweeps with the mic above the headrest. I'd look to smooth that out a little when placing these wherever they end up. Don't go benchmarking these with your favorite TMNT scene which is centered basically right where that peak is in your room

EDIT: That scene was a ton of fun though

I know audio memory isn't very reliable, but I'm pretty sure you've experienced a few very capable sealed systems over the past year or so. This may help jog your memory somewhat though...

However, I will say that a near field 24" vs a 18" really is a significant difference.
My audio memory is golden...like my ears...dontchya know ...especially in reference to said very capable sealed setup...I have yet to hear f*n irene or fotp play the same way...I'm too scared to even try in my room...I'm shaking my head as I write this...said setup should be in basshead manuals under 'I wanna grow up to be like my hero Pop'

Even though this is subjective at the end of the day and each person's goals are different, the better preference will come into play once I've got things setup proper...some people will declare they don't like a certain sub or type of sub based on memory before even having played both side by side...so in order to do my level best, I'll try to be as unbiased as I can...it is too early for me to say right now which is better for me but I'm processing my thoughts fornnow...once I've got a second pair of eyes to play witness to the setup and testing...then I'll make more declarations.

For now...both the OS and Kaiju (yes, I will call it so) offer a unique sound that is easily distinguishable...anyone going from one to the other will immediately think of the change as almost 'unusual' merely because our brain is so accustomed to what we hear day to day already...whether that be sealed, ported, tapped horn, etc. For this very reason, I'm going to keep the 24s hooked up this week to get acustomed...until @dgage comes over and then continue a comparison after we take some measurements.

Some perspective...can't take screen down yet, so a group picture with the OS will have to wait

Ref: Screen is about 167"W x 74"H

But realize, even without any DSP enabled, I think the sound will be very different than what you're used to with your OSs.
That's what I was thinking...for now I've got one up front and the other to side wall. I do have audyssey engaged...I will have to rerun it for the subs, but for now...I'm just winging it manually since it sounds good for most of the demo scenes I'm playing.

I haven't touched the gain on the sub amps...just left it at -8db, same as they arrived for now. One of the 24s is unexpectedly clipping...and I don't believe the settings I have set for now is pushing them...because the other sub isn't reacting the same way...I think this might be the one with the repairs done on the cabinet...(everyone, keep in mind this is preproduction unit)

I made a video so you can hear it...it's the pod scene from WOTW...(this hasn't happened with any other movie clips so far)
AVR MV = -15db
AVR Sub level = 0
Sub amp gain = -8db

Asim, I don't think the amp is clipping, I think it might have an issue. Can you check on the back when it sounds like it is clipping and see if the red protection led is flashing? That is my guess on what is happening and this is indeed the amp that was out in California and may have been damaged. I'll bring a new amp next week when I come up to DC. In the mean time, please turn off the amp and push the Progam Select button to see if it is happening in both programs (both programmed to 14 Hz for show). We'll get it addressed soon enough and I'll also bring my measurement equipment so we'll get a good look at what your system is doing.
