@carp ,

why'd you put that 6" mini basketball in the picture?

ha - it looks like a toy ball next to your 6' JTR 215 speakers.

Open Range the town gunfight --- the bluray version. I have a copy of that particular scene from bluray if you need it.

Has anyone watched the downtown gunfight in Heat lately? How does it hold up? Back in early DVD days that was my reference scene. I don't think I even have the movie on DVD anymore.

For shame!!! One of my all time favorite movies. I have it on blu ray. The video quality isn't great for a blu ray - some scenes better than others - and the audio isn't as mind blowing as you remember on the bank robbery scene. The surround sound on that scene was the best thing ever when the dvd came out but when you compare the gun shots to say, John Wick they are pretty weak. Surround effects for 5.1 is still great though.

Love that movie, you should come over and watch it sometime. I watch it once a year or every other year at least. Maybe I'll remember to give you back True Grit. I doubt it though...

@LastButNotLeast

Hey, sorry I haven't got around to this thread.

I have one suggestion off the top of my head.

In the most recent Mission Impossible (5?) there is a scene right after the water turbine sequence where Ethan Hunt is being revived by ECG paddles. The THUMP from those is pretty good. And real midbass, not this 40hz stuff.

If that's Rogue Nation, then I have it. I'll check it out. Thanks.

Nah. My bad, bro.

I had seen your message but have a hard time thinking of (truly) midbass "demos" in movies.

I can think up of TONS of punchy 50hz bass but.... that's just bass. Not mid-bass.

Seems to be a pattern, selling JTR's to buy different JTR's. Silly.

The fifth one.

It's the only one with a water turbine sequence after which he needs be resuscitated.

This disc isn't ready yet.
And it won't need a BD, just a DL-DVD.
Stay tuned.

Not sure if this qualifies as mid- bass, but in Tron the light cycle scene. There is a punchy beat that increases in intensity throughout the whole scene. It climaxes when the two good riders catch a bad rider between them and take him out. It is easily one of my favorite go-to scenes for testing and i really look for good chest thumping slam from that beat.
I've always felt that it's what i would call mid-bass, but it might be lower than you want.
Also, as a suggestion, if you're looking for a way to organize the tracks/scenes on the demo disc, you could group them by frequency, so you could have 1. Low-mid-bass, 2. Mid-mid-bass, 3. High-mid-bass.

If this were a 50GB demo disc, that would make sense, but, for the 12 clips we have, that would be overkill.
I'll check out the scene, though.
Thanks.

Again, mostly regular subwoofer bass. Good bass but not really true mid-bass. There are some good hits there, for sure. Wish it was on Blu-ray.

Use REW's generator or frequency sweeps from any calibration disc to see where 100Hz really lies. We're aiming for stuff around there - more of a test of crossovers than sub output.
Michael

Edit: Here's a 100Hz warble from HSU.

Spend some time this weekend preparing the actual clips. The clips demuxed fine, however once some of these are imported into Scenarist they have some errors with the video.

I'll try to fix the errors, if possible, otherwise I'll need to get with LBNL (Michael) to either recut the clips or find an alternative.

Keep tuned.

Awesome thanks for the update. Hoping someone here can help me out and make me a copy once this is completed. I returned my Bluray burner after getting all the demo discs available to date. Really looking forward to this one. Thanks for the hard work on it!

You won't need a bd burner for this; it will burn to a DVD-DL (BD9).
It will need a BDP for playback, though.

Would you believe me if i told you I don't have a DVD burner either lol? Macbook Pros and Dell Latitudes E7470 Ultrabooks have no drives. Might be able to snag one from a coworker though.
