Does anyone have access to or can take a picture of the amps used on the JTR Cap 4000 or S2? I assume they are the same amp. If someone were to order an S2, how long is the turn around to get one/two?

4000ULF and S2 both use the same SpeakerPower SP1-4000 plate amp.

The turn around should be around 2 weeks.

One of the most impressive scenes to me in Wonder Woman is the church steeple scene. Lot of deep bass in that one.

Hey Chucky, very nicely recorded videos. Some of the open dynamics of horns and the bass slam come through on my Sennheisers. Great looking system too.

Thanks!

Just unscrew the screws that’s it.
I had to do that since I got a bad amp that was broke From the beginning still waiting to validate that by them.

What is your story?

I actually like the bass in that MV a lot. However, due to the whines I heard at the GTGs, I decided not to do it.

There is a reason it was on the AVS demo disc. People need to have an open mind. Otherwise, they don't know what they are missing.

It probably one of the most bass heavy music videos I've ever seen! Another one is Black Eyed Peas - Imma Be/Rock That Body

It could be ground loop hum.

My cable box is introducing hum to my Cap 4000ULF and slight hiss/hum to my speakers. The hum/hiss goes away if I unplug the coaxial cable to the cable box or the HDMI cable between the cable box and the TV.

I wouldn't say it's normal but it is not uncommon.

Alright as long as its not a problem with the amp Im good it doesnt bother me as I cant even hear the hum unless I put my ear right to the driver I will get an xlr cable tommorow and see if that helps cause when I unplug the rca cable from either the reciever or the sub theres no hum so it does look like its some interference with other electronics as long as it doesnt hurt the amp its not an issue

The haunted me as I moved from house to house. My last house was really bad, I even called the cable guy and they couldn't figure it out. I wasn't going to live without cable and I wasn't going to live with hum so I figured it out myself.

It turns out that you need to ground the interconnect that the outside coax line connects to. It is typically right next to your sub panel. Depending on your set-up it may be an 1:1 interconnect, a splitter or distribution box/amplifier. I have attached the picture of mine, green wire is ground running straight to my sub-panel house ground.

I hope this helps someone else as I spent too much of my time/sanity trying to figure it out.

Going to look at a used S2 tomorrow! This would be my first JTR sub (replacing a MFW-15 SS Turbo), and would be paired with my Single 8HT-LP front stage. I believe it was bought new in early 2015. Have there been any significant changes to the S2 since then? Any common points of failure I should be alert to, such as evidence that the amp has been pushed too hard?

I would just turn it up and let it rip. Listen for weird sounds from the drivers. Though the drivers have longer warranty than the amp, if the sub is operational and the knobs are working, it's harder to detect if there is anything wrong with the amp plate. Let's just say it's much easier to abuse the drivers than the amp. You can also examine the condition that the seller's other speakers are in. If the other speakers are in great shape, it's unlikely that he is not taking good care of his gear.

Other than the range of LF Adjust that Jeff implemented on his subs (maybe not on sealed subs), I am not aware of any changes to the S2.

Good luck!

Have there been any significant changes to the S2 since then? Any common points of failure I should be alert to, such as evidence that the amp has been pushed too hard?
Based on the Data Bass test of the S2 the 4kW amp was found to run out of steam a little before the drivers, so a pretty robust configuration, that's hard to "break".

I believe the only thing you would miss out on is: "New DSP: Auto input select, advanced auto turn on & even lower noise floor".

I haven't seen the lower noise floor described, only mentioned on the JTR site.

Edit to add, based on Jim Wilsons review of the 2016 S1, the 2015 model is probably using the older style SpeakerPower amp with Powercon input and exposed heatsinks:

"What the amp doesn't have is the ability to do any tweaking or fine tuning. There is no manual adjustment for phase, LPF, power mode (on/off/auto), crossover, nothing. There's an on/off switch, an XLR input, Speakon power connector and two push buttons, both of which are inactive."

He also mentions the 2016 S1 is a little bigger in size overall compared to the 2015 (couple inches) .

Yes, it's a black automotive paint with purple undertones. It's called black malbec.

The reflection only occurs when the overhead lights are on. I turned them on to take the pictures. Those are never on while I watch television or motion pictures.

Thanks for sharing this solution. I will add that when I had cable as my internet provider, I would fairly regularly get surges that would blow out ethernet ports on switches and equipment in my home network. Only after reconnecting the ground wire on a coupler like you pictured that is on the outside of my house did the problems go away. Apparently the cable company disconnected the ground when they were troubleshooting a low signal situation I was having or maybe one of them was just lazy when updating something... I have no idea why they would run the ground wire but leave it disconnected.
