Let's just say it's much easier to abuse the drivers than the amp. You can also examine the condition that the seller's other speakers are in. If the other speakers are in great shape, it's unlikely that he is not taking good care of his gear.

Other than the range of LF Adjust that Jeff implemented on his subs (maybe not on sealed subs), I am not aware of any changes to the S2.

Good luck!

Of course i take care of my gear

JTR products are built solid strong and would probably require a lot of senseless abuse to take them apart.

Congrats to tebling for being the new owner of a JTR Captivator S2!

I believe the only thing you would miss out on is: "New DSP: Auto input select, advanced auto turn on & even lower noise floor".

I haven't seen the lower noise floor described, only mentioned on the JTR site.

Edit to add, based on Jim Wilsons review of the 2016 S1, the 2015 model is probably using the older style SpeakerPower amp with Powercon input and exposed heatsinks:

"What the amp doesn't have is the ability to do any tweaking or fine tuning. There is no manual adjustment for phase, LPF, power mode (on/off/auto), crossover, nothing. There's an on/off switch, an XLR input, Speakon power connector and two push buttons, both of which are inactive."

He also mentions the 2016 S1 is a little bigger in size overall compared to the 2015 (couple inches) .

Very good info (I'm always surprised how much Pradeep "knows" JTR, as he doesn't own JTR IIRC.). @tebling IMHO above difference is worth looking into before making a decision.

Also thanks to @chucky7 and @Pradeep2 for their excellent buying advice.

After putting it in its new home, I ran a quick Audyssey calibration and made a couple minor curve tweaks, then put it through some demo material. Conclusion: this thing is a MONSTER! It's about 6 feet away and behind the MLP, and I was getting a nice back massage during Blade Runner 2049. I thought my MFW-15 Turbo handled this well, but the S2 is on a whole different level.

Needless to say, I'm very pleased and can't wait to spend more quality time with it!

I’d try something just out of curiosity if I were you. Put a piece of velvet/black shirt or whatever over the top of them, and then watch something. See if the picture improves at all.

You know it's funny, but I never noticed any glare until it was mentioned to me here. Now I do notice it so I guess I'll have to invest in some black velvet. I've always wanted to own black velvet and now I can.

Do it! Black Velvet is AWESOME for what you’re about to do. Head to JoAnn’s and get some of the Royalty 3.

joann's is extremely overpriced. the stuff on amazon for ~$110/bolt will serve you just as well for a fraction of the price.

Actually using a coupon it doesn’t come out bad at all. I’d never pay full retail. You’re also paying for a bit of a “have it today”. He also doesn’t need a bolt of it for what he’s doing.

Performance wise here lately folks have had issues with the Amazon stuff. I’d imagine your familiar with the thread going over in the projector forum.

JR3 and Syfabrics have been the best value to performance picks lately.

Just a heads up...

Fry's has the Samsung 75" UN75NU8000 TV for $1,249, in store only.

I just picked one up last night. The sales associate didn't even ask me for the daily promo code.

@ $551 less than the supposed 'Super Bowl promo' $1799.99 price out there, it is excellent for the size and performance. A better 75" TV would cost at least $450 more ( Vizio P75-F1 for $1,699 ).

I am just glad that I am finally 4K capable.

Speakers: L/C/R: JTR Noesis 212HT. Surrounds: Jamo C103, KEF Q100, Polk Audio RTiA3.
Subwoofer: JTR Captivator 4000ULF.
AVR: Denon AVR-X4400H. TV: Samsung UN75NU8000FXZA.

FS: Jamo C103, KEF Q100 and Polk RTiA3

Nice! I have an S2 up front and an S1 in the rear with a Seaton Submersive on each side. The S2 is a beast! The dual 15” driver Seatons do provide amazing midbass slam but can’t touch the S2 for that “building crumbling in an earthquake” feel

"Building crumbling in an earthquake" is a great way to describe the vibrations emanating from The Monolith!

You might want to check with Jeff on estimated build time and figure out your order date from there. I get the sense that he is pretty swamped these days!

That is a good idea, I'll shoot him an e-mail and ask. As crazy as this sounds I'm actually okay not having my room operational right now. I've been watching movies upstairs in my living room on a 52" 10 year old samsung with a pair of in-wall micca m8's paired with a ~$100 yamaha r-s202 receiver--it actually sounds way better than it has any right to. it has definitely given me new appreciation for what i had/have. that said, i aim to rectify this shortly.

another truth i realized just prior to selling the rythmik subs i had was that while 3 was great fun, the room still sounded really good even after i sold the initial pair and i was left with a single fv25 for about week prior to the buyer taking possession. most people praise having multiple subs so you can even out room modes, but in my case the only placement option is at the rear wall so having 1 or multiples of the same sub isn't yielding me the same benefits as it would others with additional placement options. i might only purchase a single cap4000 and see how that fairs before jumping the gun and buying multiples. we'll see!

I'm surprised you didn't go with a projector for a much bigger image. Wasn't that your plan all along before deciding on a larger tv? And while the 75 inch tv is bigger than 55 inch....the JTR system sill dwarfs it!

^This!!

Chucky, that setup would be incredible (already great) with a retractable AT screen that comes down in front of everything. Best of both worlds, 75 inch tv for most of the time but then when it's movie time lower the big screen for that huge wow factor. For sports take your pick depending on mood.

This 75" TV is only my second TV since the high definition era, so please cut me some slack...

I was almost ready to move the 6-year-old 55" plasma to the living room and have a fix frame screen in the family room. The problem is that 4K projectors are still in their infancy relative to 4K TVs. Currently, only the $1,700 Optoma UHD 51A fits my needs and it will be at least a couple years for something similar to fall to $1000 range. This also means I would not be 4K capable until then if I didn't get a 4K TV.

I have to admit that the TV is more of an impulse purchase. But look at the price!!! Besides, it is much more "set it and forget it" than a projector. I had planned to go ATMOS capable when I got the AVR last September. Look at how that plan went...

Last night my wife watched her favorite content on the new TV and she is certainly very happy with the size.

Yes, the JTR system still dwarfs the TV. From the pictures I posted, it was hard to tell that the old 55" TV is not that small.

Agreed.

I'm jealous that it doesn't work to have a large panel tv in my room to go with the big screen.

Oh, the projector is still happening. It is a family room and the only place we have a TV installed. Therefore, it's harder to get rid of the TV and go with a projector and a fixed-frame screen. Most of the time it will be my wife watching TV with some ambient lighting for multi-tasking. Therefore, a larger TV for regular usage is still more sensible.

I have to admit that the TV is more of an impulsive buy. But look at the price!!! Besides, it is much more "set it and forget it" than a projector. I had planned to go ATMOS capable when I got the AVR last September. That plan is not being implemented any time soon...

Last night my wife watched her favorite content on the new TV and she is certainly very happy with the size.

Yes, the JTR system still dwarfs the TV. From the pictures I posted, it was hard to tell that the old TV is not small at 55".

Chucky, atmos is awesome. I just implemented last weekend and surpassed my expectations. Everything just sounds better and more immersive, even the bass.

man o man do I miss my JTR's. Since moving into my new house, I had too sell off my system for the WAF... still love my current setup, but nothing compares to the detail I heard with my 212+S2's. makes me sad just thinking about it

one day, if I get ballsy enough, I might have to go back to a 228 LCR and I guess a pair of 118's for subs (this would still probably wreck my room) haha.

if anyone in PA is ever selling, please let me know so I can loose sleep over it

just reached out to jeff earlier tonight asking for a quote & time-frame for product availability so i know when to put in my order. i'm extremely excited to be joining the jtr family soon. it's crazy how subwoofers really are the life of the party with respect to home theater. since selling what i had the room has just been dead to me. i feel like i'm finally on the path to resurrection...
