The m2ts files are working great. I put them all in a folder on my external hard drive, connected them to my sony blu ray player and works like a charm.

I have noticed, however, that the MKV files do not have any audio or will say file not recognized. Any idea why this might be?

Because your player does not support mkv files.
You're not doing anything wrong.

Can the demo disc files be put on a thumb drive or are the files too large, and need to be placed on an external hard drive?

What model Sony do you have? Sony players will definitely stream MKV files, but will not play those with Dolby True HD audio, so depending on which model you have, you may get an unplayable message or the video will play but with no audio... But when playing those files, you can try and hit Options or Audio on your remote and switch to the AC-3 dolby digital core track... if it was included in the file that is...

When ripping to the MKV format and playing on Sony players, you have to also select the AC-3 core separately and include it when it is ripped. The Sony player will not be able to extract it out on it's own from the True HD container.

Note: It should have no problem with any DTS audio variant files .. .including Master Audio. Keep in mind, I have noted this with streaming from a NAS, I have not really played many files from a USB or USB connected HDD... but I would expect it would at least have the same playback capabilities.. but maybe not?

I have the S5100. It's really not a huge deal because from what I can gather so far the majority aren't MKV files. I will have to check about hitting the options button and changing to AC-3, but then that file isn't a lossless track I would assume. All of the Mad Max files are MKV so was disappointed when discovering this. I'm not going to burn any of these because I don't want any more discs lying around. I really like the fact of storing these on my external hard drive and if I ever want to playback a scene I don't have to worry about putting in or finding the disc.

Yup Mad Max is an Atmos track ... thus True HD... and Yes, if you are able to switch to the AC-3 track, it won't be lossless, but you will still have a amazing mid-bass/ low bass demo scene!

I would love to have all the Demo discs burned to discs, unfortunately I do not have a blu-ray disc burner, and I am not very computer literate, so I don't think I could manage it.

Not at all. It just changes the "wrapper" of the data. You may, however, lose the Atmos channel.

@LastButNotLeast

Can anyone post the full disc to dropbox/drive or similar file storage? I've tried to torrent this over the past week or so and it's stopping at around 65%.

Thanks

Too big for my (free) dropbox. I'm trying pCloud, but it will take 7 hours to upload. I'll let you know when it's done and if it works.
Thanks for your (belated) interest.

It seems pCloud has a monthly download limit, so if you're late to the party, please try again at the beginning of next month.
I'm glad to see interest in this after all this time. Perhaps someone could start up the torrent again?

Sorry, I'm an idiot. I realized (at 3AM) that my VPN was blocking the torrent.
I'm seeding now, as are 5 others, so the torrent should be available to anyone who needs it.
Enjoy.

I am also unable to burn my own disc. I would also be willing to pay anyone to burn a disk for me as well. Thanks.

Please keep in mind that there are other ways to "play" this disc.
Some AVRs and many BDPs can play the disc from a pen drive.
Some devices will play the m2ts files directly from the STREAM folder.
Otherwise, let your friends know you have a disc like this available and someone will come up with a burner.
Another thing to remember is that you don't need a BD burner; the whole idea is that this is a DVD in AVCHD format.
