Im getting giddy over all the BR2049 stuff. I have the UHD coming my way to re-view the original. I've heard it was a great transfer from a few places, so I am really excited about it.

Wanna know what I am NOT stoked about? The new Spiderman. Watched that one with the wife last night and while there was a few points where I giggled a little, man, that movie hurt to watch. There was a few decent bass events but the quantity and quality was SOOO sporadic that it was frustrating. There was a few parts it almost felt like they forgot to add in the LFE channel to the mix.... I literally sat there confused a few times. I need a bass fix. Perhaps I'll watch my new Dredd in UHD tonight, just to shake it off....

A BIG WARNING for anyone importing or buying BLADE RUNNER 2049 in the future.
Both Sony Pictures and Warner Bros are releasing this movie on Blu-ray and I've already seen DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1
listen for the SONY PICTURES Germany release. so i would be VERY careful if importing any special releases
that aren't Warner Bros. unless Sony Pictures changes it's mind on this specific release i would watch out.

Safe to say the 4K/UHD/ATMOS will be the reference disc of choice for BR2049

I'm going to pass on the 3D double dip,
I was less than impressed with 3D effects in theater.

As I mentioned before,
... very few 3D scenes when I saw it at the theater in 3D

http://screencrush.com/blade-runner-2049-2d-or-3d/

Quote:
It’s worth noting that the studio showed Blade Runner 2049 to critics in 2D, not 3D. That was how they wanted us to see it. And it looked absolutely spectacular in 2D. No additional immersion was necessary.
Such a gorgeously shot film, The 4K/UHD/HDR in ATMOS will be the only one worth buying.

Train to Busan was great. I don’t remember a ton of LFE but maybe I was busy reading subtitles.

Started watching season 2 of Stranger Things. (love the scene where dude pulls up in a camaro rocking Scorpions btw ) I was watching the scene in the first episode where the guy has the flamethrower and thought “this probably looks good in UHD/HDR”. So I upgraded my Netflix plan to premium, restarted app, selected Stranger Things specifically from 4k content section, watched the scene again... looks the same? It looked fine in regular HD, I was expecting a little more pop from HDR I guess. Netflix isn’t charging me for another week so I’ll check out other UHD content in the meantime. Finishing the first episode of season 2 now. Sounds great other than maybe being mixed a little low. AVR is at 0mv whereas anything else on Netflix or Bluray for that matter sounds the same at -10mv.

Thumbs up

All the hype over Stranger Things this time last year is what first piqued my interest in signing up for Netflix.

I finally made the jump right after I got my 65" LG OLED on Black Friday and signed up for the Freebie 1 month trial. (4K version)
Binge watched season 1 right away and immediately got hooked on 4K Dolby Vision titles like Marco Polo, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones,
Daredevil, Iron Fist and most recently the Defenders.

I just got home and loaded up the first episode of season 2 Stranger Things
and pleasantly surprised it also got the Dolby Vision upgrade this year!

I’m watching Stranger Things via the Netflix app on my Samsung KS8000 4k tv. It was a popular 2016 model and generally everything looks great whether true 4k or just 1080p upscaled by the tv. Which was why I’ve been hesitant to upgrade to Netflix premium until now. The beginning of episode 2 looked good in HDR... One thing that’s driving me nuts is color temperature randomly changing. It’s really noticeable on skin tones in dimly lit scenes. Faces will go from a warm color to blueish hue then back. Not subtle, like going from 5500k to 3500k. Dunno if it’s Netflix, my app version of Netflix, the tv, or what.

edit - after watching Ozark, Longmire, Marco Polo, OA, other 4k/hdr Netflix titles, it’s only Stranger Things Season 2 that has the color glitch. Basically every 30 seconds it goes from being warm & saturated color to cold & flat. Super annoying.

Bass so far in Stranger Things 2 has been excellent to keep the thread on topic.

Add me to the odd man out list too. I didn't like Spiderman Homecoming that much either, it was decent but that's all. Amazing Spiderman 1 & 2 (yes I know, I know...) was more enjoyable, eventhough it was objectively flawed.

Stranger Things S.2 is full of great bass that I found insanely well done and powerful (same with S.1 for that matter) There is even quite a bit of ULF that gave my Buttkickers and subs a real workout. The Intro song alone is pretty crazy awesome with 2 big ULF hits at the end....
Truly stellar show all around in my book and I for one hope to see many more seasons. Wish more shows were this good in many ways.

Wow, I can't believe I actually kind of enjoyed American Ultra as it had some pretty awesome audio with the DTS:X soundtrack. With Jesse and Kristin, I wasn't expecting anything, to be honest, but the action pulled me through. And the LFE kicks some serious tailbone... really!

Alright, who am I kidding... Topher Grace was awesome as the "bad" guy! It's been too long since we've seen him on the big screen.

If you haven't seen this and you're looking for a satisfying bass movie, this definitely won't disappoint in that area!

Spoiler!
Sorry SF, but those two "actors" gawd it's painful to even give them that much credit, make that one unbearable for me.
I even found Batman vs Superman a struggle to get past the Eisenberg moments, and Kristen Stewart makes me dry heave.
