''Dunkirk explodes onto Blu-ray with an ultra-dynamic 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack that will be a revelation for audiophiles who also like Hans Zimmer scores. For this review, I'm rocking the awesome 2017 KEF Q series (Q950 towers, Q650c center, Q350 & Q150 surrounds), Honestly, outside of Nolan's choice to stick with 5.1 which undercuts immersion, I have no complaints. The better your gear, the more you'll be able to recreate the theatrical experience so apologize to neighbors and family in advance, and enjoy this one LOUD.''

No respect for that review
No need for Ralph bashing as he's more than got em dead on more than I can count! Tron clips and so did Godzilla but both have a place in my collection and lots of playback, clipping isn't the end of the world and neither is low level as many of these titles with minor system adjustments can sound just fine a deliver a great night at the movies. Nolan wanted this track loud and I guess that meant clipping!

Iko Uwais martial arts and choreography was absolutely ridiculous in the Raid 1 & 2...if you haven’t seen them, do it! Will Ronda Rousey and Lauren Cohan (aka Maggie from The Walking Dead) fight? I hope it has a sick soundtrack. Wahlberg and Malkovich are cool too.

Wow, G.I. Joe Retaliation 2013. It doesn't have that good of a bass, there are some bassy moments, almost all explosions don't have sound. But, the surround is well used. i only have 5 ear level speakers, but wow, you hear the swords, when people/cars go behind you they actually sound like they go behind you, not only to the front left/right speakers and suddenly disappear. I just don't know how to describe it. It's really good. Surround is well used.

I don't recall the last time I spun the Bluray of GI Joe Retaliation,
But the surround action you describe bodes well for the new 4K/UHD ATMOS re-release (July 31)

4K/UHD for GI Joe Rise of the Cobra also out on the same day...

Mhm interesting, i didn't felt anything under 22-23hz, normally the pb-1000 i have, shakes the couch a bit at frequencies from 19 hz to 21 hz. But below that, nothing as expected. Can't wait for the Ultimax 18 one day. Thanks for the graphs !
I placed the pb-1000 behind the couch but it didn't work out because it's between a leather couch and 2 curtains, one normal one and one like the theaters, that block every light. And there is furniture on both sides of the couch that make a small chamber. And because the couch is angled a bit, the top of the couch torches the curtain blocking sound even more.
Result is HOLY S$!T that feedback, that "massage" but anything under around 32hz is at avg 15db lower.

The more obvious the difference in bass quality, the more that proves it's not the codec that is altering the sound, but the mastering process used for each type of delivery format. If you have an Atmos demo disc, you can play some trailers and movie clips in TrueHD and DD+, and the differences in bass are imperceptible. The audio processing applied for streaming/downloading may be quite different than what is done for BD/UHD.

come on now this has to be inaccurate!

how much would anyone really want to re-watch and listen to a crap mix.

I've read many times that all CGI is 2K. I haven't seen the movie yet so I can only guess the vast majority of it would contain CGI. Maybe that's why.

I'll be buying the movie regardless as that's the only way I'll get to see it if I wanted to. No way I'm putting up with the "movie going experience" for ANY movie. Only way to get me in a theater is if my wife wanted to go. Lucky for me, she prefers our setup at home.

Not all, there's no set rule. there is 3.4K and 4K visual effects shots out there. Blade Runner 2049 was done 3.4K. Interstellar which was 4K and 5.6K. it just depends on if they can get away with it. in black panther is would of been better to have done 3.4K or 4K finishes because some CG scenes look soft and it's a bit distracting.

Care to elaborate without giving away any spoilers? I’ve been reading a lot about how great the sound design is in this movie. Can’t wait for it to come out as I missed it in the theater.

I guess my information is a bit outdated. I guess there was a time my information was true due to the amount of resources mastering CGI in 4K required. As time goes by processing power increases and storage cost are lowered. We must be at a point where those two have come to a point were they are no longer as big a roadblock as they once were.

I'm not nearly as picky about visual aspects of a movie as I am about the sound quality so most of these things don't bother me nor do I notice them much if at all. While I do see the definite increase in quality going from HD to 4K, I'm quite satisfied with HD quality. Even when sitting 8' from a $20, 100" screen (only temporary) using a entry level Epson HD projector.

Saw Infinity Wars in IMAX 3D. Loved it. Trying to recall the bass. I think it was ok. Lol. Might be a case like Ragnarok where you have to bump up the MV. Fortunately my system has plenty of headroom. This will be a day one purchase fo' sho'.

For Infinity War, if people were satisfied with a 2k DI for their theatrical experience then why would we expect it to be dissapointing at home?

It'll be interesting to see how this disc stacks up against the better ones, given how big a movie it is.

I'm very much looking forward to the reviews for Annihilation's disc. I'm hoping it is solid, with quality bass and visuals.

Def looking forward to Annihilation and Matrix though!
That's a pretty silly reason to NOT buy a good movie. Yeah, the audio sucked in BP, but the movie itself was really good. Same with Infinity War. Movies are supposed to be fun. Isn't that the point. Since when has NOT buying a movie due to lackluster audio become a thing? To each their own I guess.....

If Black Panther is any indication then it will be crap. Each Disney release has been getting worse and worse...

I think the beauty of this thread is it’s all about the Bass. It’s not about storyline or video quality.
