I guess the positive takeaway from this is the movie graphs we post are actually louder than it shows?

Is that a combo pack with 4K and 3D like Pacific Rim 2?

Not messing with Pacific Rim 2 and a few other titles based on the reviews I’ve read here unless Redbox throws me a free rental. Looking through upcoming releases, the next movie I actually want to see is slated for July 10 (A Quiet Place). I saw Chappaquiddick in the theater and it was horrible. Not so much the movie, but the story it’s based on. I don’t know what I was expecting going in...

Watched tomb raider last night - kind of - couldn’t get in to it. Fell asleep at least 3 times.

Watched Pacific Rim 2 this evening, I liked it, not as much as the first but it was good. Nothing deep, but my 4 MBM’s right up against the couch sure helped with the slam factor.

Watched Hurricane Heist right after, that sure was a bass fest. My wife commented several times wondering if anyone in the neighborhood could here it. Was pleasantly surprised, had very low expectations of it going in, that might be the key. Didn’t think the acting was that bad other than the main villain.

Never met a bass I didn't like! Tasty, they are

Are there bass in a bass movie, or is there bass in a bass movie?

*edit* The talk of Ready Player One reminded me that I have been forgetting.......for YEARS......to buy Scott Pilgrim vs The World! I love that freakin' movie, finally have the disc coming now.....

Man I love SPvTW as well!! I have watched it so many times. It really seems to be a "love it or hate it" movie though, I have a few friends who can't stand it.

Watching this with a capable bass system is an absolute must too!.....the LFE track should have been nominated for a "Best Supporting Actor" award in this one!

How's having dual FV15HP compared to just only one?. I've been feeling like i need a second one lately. I've become bored with only one subwoofer.

It was definitely a noticeable difference in both output and consistency around the room. Audyssey MultEQ XT32 On my AVR did a great job EQing them especially for the very large open concept first floor I have them sitting in.

The one thing i will say is that I didn’t get an AVR capable of EQing using Audyssey prior to getting the second sub, so with the single I used REW and a miniDSP 2x4HD with limited success. My prior AVR was an entry level Pioneer elite that just had the basic MCACC calibration. So all at once I got the second sub and the Marantz AVR which I’m sure also played a huge role in my overall sound quality. With the subs since post Marantz, the FR graphs were much improved. I also installed tactile transducers around that same time.

Anyways I would recommend a second if you want more headroom and better FR at more locations in the room.

I am not sure which is right but based on my room FOTP is louder than most. Remember, I have a small room and my subs from 5-20hz is 20 dB hot compared to the speakers and I watch everything at reference. I really don't like a flat response anymore at the LP.

amazon.com (in the US) has the 3D version at $48

I think amazon.fr (France) has a 4K/3D combo/steelbook and there are a few imports on ebay,
but were more $$ after exchange/shipping than buying both separately at home.

Would there be issues trying to play it on a standard bluray player here or would the player have to be region free?

I am surprised more hasn't been chatted about Tomb Raider. I just finished watching. I literally felt lots of strong bass in the movie. Great use of Atmos and stunning picture quality to go with a decent story. Granted it wasn't as strong as Blade Runner 2049 but seemed from memory just as strong as Kong Skull Island and I enjoyed the story more as well.

+1

I actually enjoyed the hell out of it and thought the overall Atmos and bass was amazing! great PQ too

Def not the best movie I've ever seen, but was pretty entertaining and all the things mentioned made up for what the movie itself may have somewhat lacked. A very fun HT Atmos experience IMHO!!

Except shipping to the US is pretty expensive.

I know 'The Greatest Showman" has already been talked about a while back, but just wanted to say, the bass in that thing is pretty great I thought and hits hard. Felt like some real nice low stuff too. My wife and i had the house to our selves for a bit this weekend so we watched it at a pretty decent MV. Watched the Atmos 4 k version and was quite impressed. We've seen it before in the theaters but wife wanted to watch it the HT. We love this movie and soundtrack and i'm sure we'll watch it many times over the years.

So as some of you may know, I'm a complete TR junkie But my wife doesn't like the extreme levels that i do, so i left the BK's and MA's off this time. I run VNF 18s behind me to go with the farfield 18s, but I gotta say, I think I underestimated what a suspended floor is capable of with a good bass movie LOL. We watched at -12.5MV (which is pretty loud in my 13x13 room), and I just couldn't believe how much TR there was. I'd almost be afraid to crank it up much louder for fear that we might fall through the floor into the garage that the HT is over LOL. Especially with the foot stomps on the bleachers at the beginning of the movie and on the menu page (same song plays). The floor and seating were going completely nuts lol

I think my wife is tired of hearing me say, "Can you believe we got that much shake with no buttkickers" LOL. I may have to re evaluate if I even need the damn things anymore LOL. It felt just about right. I think we let the the main menu page play for about 5 minutes with that bleacher stomp song playing after the movie was over. I don't think I could ever get tired of that massive TR and bass hit that it brings again and again. Now my wife, said enough already after a while LOL

Anyway, just thought Id share my little story with you fellow bass heads . Y'all may appreciate it more than my wife did hahaha

Sorry SuFi, I've had family in town and haven't had much time for bass related things. I don't have a copy of the movie myself (not ULF enough for my blood ) but there have been instances of different PvA graphs over the years due to different copies of the movie. I'd guess because this movie is a few years old now maybe there are different copies being measured. There should always be a control group. If you and Grey have the same copy of a full bandwidth disc, it would be beneficial to compare measurements of the movie to make sure there is nothing being left out of the process and the measurements are the same and repeatable.

If the results are the same with other discs, it is very likely that the differences are due to a different mix. It's not that uncommon. For a quick example:

If your measurements are not repeatable, then something else is the culprit and needs to be diagnosed before trusting any further measurements.

totaly right! watched Tomb Raider last week and it was really good, didn't expect it to be like this. soundtrack and LFE was great too, lots of bassy songs too.

Just watched 12 Strong a couple of days ago and this has to be one of the best war LFE movies. worth a watch!
