For those that have the Xbox One, Iron Fist: Season 2 sounds menacing in Dolby Atmos as it raises the stakes of all of Netflix's content by about 5-7dB!

Thanks!

OK I was lucky enough Wally World still had the X:Men box set (later trilogy). Just finished First Class. Holy Effin Bass O'molly!!! That was a lot of and really strong bass. The movie wasn't too shabby either. I'm glad I made the purchase.

Let me gather myself, because I just had one of the experiences of my life.

As you probably know (or maybe not) I've been subless for almost five months since upgrading from a LG HTiB which served me well for over a year. Since my PB-1000 order went down the toilet, I decided for a Polk HTS 12 that just arrived yesterday.

After playing with settings and test tones, playing some music and testing for the right placement, I decided today to lose my bass "virginity" to GI Joe: Retaliation a movie I recently watched and I could easily spot any significant changes my new sub brought to the table.

Let me tell you. I was in shock, I was in awe and I was frightened. Right from logos at the start of the movie I could tell something was different. When the first action piece started my jaw was on the floor. I wasn't watching the movie: I WAS EXPERIENCING IT.

I had never experienced such force, such sound pressure and so many shockwaves running through my whole body. My chair was vibrating, my room was shaking and the windows were rattling.

I couldn't believe the amount of sound and extension I was missing. I heard things in the movie I had never heard before. The "volume", the "weight" of the audio was startling, and like I said, at least the first 40 minutes I was almost scared. I couldn't even concentrate on what was happening on the screen, because I wasn't just discovering new sounds, I was *feeling* things.

And the best part of adding a sub to my system it's that it freed my front stage of the burden of having to play full range. The sound not only was fuller, but it could also get louder without being uncomfortable. I comfortably turned up the MV three "levels" and it felt like I could turn up the volume a little more without turning into a piercing mess. I really don't know the specifics of what truly happened, but my system sounds now SO MUCH BETTER!

And the last part of the movie was simply insane! Just when I thought I was getting accustomed to this new "physical" experience, it just kept getting more crazy and intense.

I can't even imagine what you guys are experiencing in your Herculean systems, but you guys must be insane!

But I tell you what? I CRAVE FOR MORE!!

Edit: I forgot to add that maybe the reason I was scared is that I felt like a punching bag and I couldn't do anything about it.

Just started watching this after seeing your post, and I am very impressed thus far. Mind you, I'm only listening in DD+, but the surround mix & LFE sounds nice....and the show is great as well.

Thanks for the recommendation. Now I have more binge watching to get to now that football is done for the day. Lol

Final post of the day. I'm done watching John Wick, and it was such a fun ride. I had already watched it two times, but this time felt like a brand new movie. The bass in here was quite frankly over-the-top and unrealistic, but I guess that's part of the fun, right?

I liked the lower, menacing drone bass notes from the beginning of the movie, but gunshots, explosions and car crashes well very well done and hit hard as expected. And of course, there's the famous club scene. Really fantastic stuff.

I just need to watch something less impactful and violent, and look for something more "sophisticated" in terms of sound design.

Perhaps Dredd is in line next. This movie session was exciting, but also really exhausting.

The great thing is that I had the house for myself, so I could be more "generous" with the listening levels. Totally worth it.

I only watched a few episodes of season 1 as I thought it was on the boring side. I heard season 2 is better so I might give it a try again. Give Ozark a try, great series.

Just finished Hereditary. Wow. Definitely a weird ass movie. I like creepy movies and it definitely had some scary parts.
As far as the sound, even though it was just a 5.1 mix it sounded great with the neural:x upmix.
I wasn't that blown away by the bass but it was nice at times, rattling glasses in my bar. I only listened at -20 as it's late.
Idk... As far as bass maybe I'd rate it 3 out of 5.

Last night after X:Men First Class I put in Future Past and actually turned my volume down from -10 to -15. There were some strong scenes in there even with the volume turned down I will have to re-visit. Definitely a good buy. Lots of football today so no movie watching. I will probably watch Apocalypse tomorrow night. Nothing good on Mondays yet.

Just watched The Incredibles 2 at the Cinema. Quite aggressive sound design and mix although the bass in the Cinema is clearly filtered at around 25-30 Hz despite all the Dolby and 4K intro. Hoping Disney doesn't screw up the Atmos audio like Incredibles 1. Movie was as fun to watch as the first but a bit predictable.

I actually like this Next Gen Netflix movie as much as Ready Player One!

Fantastic story, bass, Atmos and casting.

Post of the day!!!!!

Nothing better than reading the enthusiasm from a new and improved home theater experience. Your post gave me flashbacks to when i had the same experience,, and i'm sure many others that visit this thread regularly. Best part, is you get to rewatch all your movies and they will be that much better.

For those of you who have a receiver that uses Audyssey and has the option to turn on Dynamic EQ (DEQ), but you don't have REW and a Mic to see what it's doing to your room, I made a graph to give you an idea.

It doesn't change your room response/graph, it just amplifies it. If you have the option right under DEQ to change the Reference Level Offset (RLO) from 15, 10, 5, and 0, then my graph basically shows you that every click (4 total) gives you an increase of about 2.2db.

I haven't taken a look at what DEQ does to the frequencies above 100hz but I do know that I prefer to have DEQ Off, as my system and speakers sound much more clear without it. So what I have come up with instead is, I've increased the gain on my subs and decreased my sub trims in my avr to max level -12 (Marantz). Whenever I want extra bass (wannabe DEQ) I just increase my sub trims from -12 to -8 or -6, that way I can keep the same volume and clarity of my sound stage while only increasing the low end below 100hz. This is just what works better for ME.

Anyways, here's the graph, hope this helps some of you who've been wondering what DEQ On/Off is doing in your room. Btw, that's not my current response, this was in the middle of testing and finding a sweet spot
