This could be the first SW film I will not purchase. Just a pathetic group of sound engineers at Disney? It is hard to understand. How could the mixes just turn out so flat and boring? How could you choose to NOT utilize the formats available? It is like listening to someone speak in monotone for the duration of the movie with the recent releases.

Maybe this will make you feel better? Could be IMAX and DTS's response to disney's foolishness or just good news for movie fans.

Well I bought that V1500. Price turned out to be to good to pass up. I either will successfully get it to blend in well or I can be patient and go through the hassle of trying to sell. Maybe even trade in to Tom for another sealed. Worse case it sits until my Uncle gets to the point of setting up his media room in the attic finish he is doing. Turned out the guy was done trying to sell and wanted out of his house. He is now running 4 sealed in his theater. Wish me luck!

Well. Since I changed my sub and finally can experience the 17~20hz range so yeah, maybe I'm getting used to the monster bass movies like RP1 or Rampage or Fury/Matrix so I'm pretty much enjoyed the first hour or maybe it's the scenario issue so I can't get involved into the next hour where the things goes wrong IMO. It just sounded not like Jurassic which they should separated this movie into 2 different one.

Well I’ve only watched about the first half so far of Jurassic World : Fallen Kingdom and totally agree on the epic surround sound. I was in AWE of the DTS:X mix!! The video PQ as well!! I couldn’t hardly believe how cool this part was …

Spoiler!

Even if the second half isn't as epic when I finish it up (I'm waiting on the wife to finish it), I enjoyed the first half enough that i think it may make up for it

There is no right or wrong, try both and see what you like.

In my case if the Audio track was Atmos i would choose Atmos/Surround, if it was DTS HD/MASTER/Dolby Digital..etc i would choose X

I like Dolby Surround for upmixing. Neural:X is more aggressive with the use of heights and when it gets it right it's very awesome. However, it often gets it wrong and it makes things much worse. I remember wondering why one of the songs in Guardians of the Galaxy sounded like crap when I was running Neural:X. I switched it and it suddenly sounded good again. Part of the music was going exclusively to the height and it made it sound really weird. I've also had a doctor who episode where part of the doctor's voice was being split through the height and the center channel. It sounded very strange. I've never had any of these issues while using dolby surround.

- 21.0 in a curved cab, 2400w amp
- 21.0LX in a larger curved cab, 4800w amp
...or the 24" in a 26" cube, 4800w amp

I inquired about the performance benefits for each,
and asked Nathan how each compared to just adding another pair of 18.0's

Quote:
For overall output the 21 has about 3 db more overall than one 18.0, so its like one and a half 18.0’s and is nearly identical in about every other way. For the 21.0LX it has lower distortion and even better sound quality along with an average of about 5db more output than an 18.0 so its almost like two 18.0’s overall but its advantage is weighted to the low end so at the point of most difference, 20hz, is has about 10db more making it more like 3 18.0’s there. The 24 has an average of about 7db more so its like more than two 18.0’s overall, but again the difference is more in the low end, more than 12db at 20hz so at that point its like 4 18.0’s
What would you pick?

So Ya, the 24" looks like the one when you consider cost/performance.

Nathan and I are just finalizing veneer/finish options.
A deal has been negotiated, provided I go with a veneer instead a plain black box...So it will be a couple months yet.
(which will buy me more time to raise a few extra bucks to pay for it) Sending him a Deposit today for 50%.

My High Gloss Walnut Crotch veneered 18.0's started as a simple quote for a pair of flat black 18.0SE cubes in a Master/Slave combo.
Not going quite that extreme this time ...but definitely not putting a black spray bomb finish on an Audio work of Art.

I agree with the other post,,,,, you are a madman lol. That 24 will add serious bottom end. My pair of 21.0LX bend windows throughout the house below 10Hz so behind your MLP will be nutz!!!! In a good way.

Awesome @PioManiac !!!! I think I’d go for the 24” and put that thing right behind your MLP seat in place of your Velo's and integrated with your 18” beauties up front. But that’s just me ….I love the VNF right behind the seats and am going to replace my 18’s behind my seat with a 24” like coolrda’s one of these days . Should rock your world on a whole new level I would think

Then move your Velodynes that you have behind your seat now to over behind the other two seats on either side of you for other people if you want to keep them.

That is EXACTLY the Plan

I was initially going to just get another pair of 18.0's for behind my MLP, Glad I inquired on the Big 2-4
... by far the cheaper option (Nathan made me one Hell of an Offer) and I get the equivalent of 4-18's

IIRC from the databass measurements, the level was low overall for this track? I think it just needed a master volume bump as I remember and it came to life. Need to spin both of these again.

Not until December

This was a one-off proto-type
enclosure built to test the new 24" Carbon Fiber driver,
...So it's not a regular production model.

But here's a pic from the Funk Audio Instagram:
Black Bamboo 18.0, Walnut 21.0LX (top), 18.0C Mahogany (right)

Final finish decision:

Flat Cut Walnut Veneer, Dark Chocolate Stain, Satin Finish
Vertical corners will be router radius'd, walnut veneer wrapped around corners,
Top and Bottom edges to get solid walnut inlays router/radius'd

Very similar look to these little 21's

LOL!, still have a new AVR to swap and the miniDSP WI-DG bridge still in the box too.
If Aron would give me a break with his BEQ updates I might find time to get more done.

Can you read the x and y axis? I can't.

- 21.0LX in a larger curved cab, 4800w amp
...or the 24" in a 26" cube, 4800w amp

I inquired about the performance benefits for each,
and asked Nathan how each compared to just adding another pair of 18.0's

Congrats!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks. I'm gonna check on my tablet later. Mobile devices aren't good for a bunch of stuff.

I can't do MMFR either with the consistency that some around here watch it, especially all the way through. It was alright and the bass was great, I just can't get into it.

I am going to save this title for a few reasons, a) I am still cruising through the original remake on the 360 and b) I really feel like before I go to enjoy this that I need up bump my stock XB1 up to the X variant to pair with my JVC I know you want talk me off the ledge for this one...

Beast Mode!!
Easy now using my namesake For real though think hard about this upgrade as you may find the nearfield overpowering the fronts with the much higher output capabilities i.e. equivalent to close to 4 of your front 18's. I've always found I still wanted the majority of my firepower coming from the front, with a very potent, but not as capable nearfield as icing on the cake, otherwise things begin to feel unnatural. Just playing the devil's advocate a little here that you may find yourself loading up with another 24 soon enough, and those 18's would work nicely behind your seat. Perhaps a cabinet upgrade at the same time Regardless, this takes you to a new level, love where you are headed. Having two very high output 18's already behind my seat you're gonna love the step-up

HTTYD1 is one of the absolute classics. The dragon crash scene at the end is where you see that massive single digit event take place. Good stuff.

I'm not sure yet. It looks like a certification program doing what THX has done with their branding but with the addition of remastered content (which is exciting). The question is will it result in better audio mixing? Surely DTS audio engineers will have some say in the matter. I mean I can't imagine they would put their stamp of approval on content that is remastered as "IMAX for the home" unless it met high standards. Remains to be seen how many movies out there will be remastered. If it catches on then it could be amazing. In a perfect world the DTS remastered product creates enough positive mass market buzz that it prompts Dolby to confront Disney and convince them that in order to use the Dolby license the end product cannot be a dud.

They state that they will use a "special variant" of DTS:X. I wonder what that will be exactly? And why can't DTS just use that for ALL of the DTS:X mixes?
