Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018) Atmos vs. DTS-HD MA 7.1

A ~4dB sub trim bump on the Atmos mix would make things almost equal. That ~19Hz hit about 10 minutes in would be ridiculously loud, though.
SuperFist and AmerCa like this.

Take the Red Pill (BassEQ) BassEQ Demo Clips
Video: Sony 85" X900F @ 80" eyes-to-screen (49.4° viewing angle)
Audio: Denon AVR-X4400H 7.2.4 Atmos
Mains: Fusion-15 LR, Fusion-8 Center, Ported Volt-10 Surrounds, Custom 45°/45° Double-Angled Ported Volt-6 Atmos
Subs: The Two Towers (HT18 32cf 11.5Hz x 2), UM18 4cf x 2, Crowson MAs x 4

On a serious note, that was the movie that got me back into HT. I remember watching Tron with my PSW 505's and thinking to myself. 'Its time to shop for some real subs" !!

All good @indebtbassfreak , you have incredible subs, and enjoying them with what you want is what matters most. In time you will view it. There are sooooo many great bass flicks, that one would need to retire, and just sit in their MLP to enjoy them all. Sitting in volleyball in St. Louis last weekend for 4 days, really made me miss my subs, and projector too!

I'm trying to think what first movie that gave me the wow factor, but the wow factor for me only started the last few years after several sub upgrades. WOTW has to one on my short list once i had subs that could handle the ULF. To date,,, Ready Player One for me i think is top dog in my room on my system for overall audio bass/surround activity.

Thats a strong endorsement for Tron having that effect on resurrecting your HT passion.

There has been more than one movie bias i've had that was squashed after i bought and watched it. In fact i have several in my collection that are some of my favorites i wouldn't have otherwise purchased if not for this thread. I'm heading down to the local Wallmart today to see if by chance Tron Legacy is there.

Hi IDBF,

Hope all is well in your world! Your above post just made me think. I don't like doing that too much in a single day! However, while I was pondering what was the Movie with the Wow factor? It hit me. This may have been a few years ago now (thinking 2016 maybe.) I had dual PB 13 Ultras and was reading about this Movie Scene with crazy bass moment. I go out and buy the Bluray. "Black Hawk Down". Major let down (not the movie, the bass). I get to the 1:50 min mark and I hear some bass but nothing "Mind Altering" or "Face Melting". That is when I realized, I needed MORE Bass, bigger and better subs than the Ultras.

So my high water mark was this Movie scene "F__king Irene". 2 new subs later and I now hear and feel what all the "pandemonium" was about. This is a great test track. If you don't feel the Chopper Rotor Air wash and the deep thumping of the rotor blades in your chest, you need more ULF creating Subs. Now that you made me think, I think I want to go watch this movie again!

Hey good to hear from you, hope all is well with yourself. Same scenario in Lone Survivor's chopper rotor scene,, i think a strong 7/8Hz. In my "open" living room it is moot chasing strong single digits unless i had room for a couple 10Hz tuned ported beasts near field. What i need to do, is stop fiddling with different settings as i often get my system to do "all" frequencies well including single digits, but i just dont seem to be able to leave good alone lol. Sometimes i just like to explore other settings.

Tomorrow i think i'm going to try Pio's setting and run audyssey with the Funks in "no EQ" mode. My thinking is (at least today), why over complicate EQ by having an aggressive preset that focuses in a certain area of strength,,,, then have audyssey try and smooth that out, seems counter productive. I'll run audyssey with no eq, see how it sounds "if good" then i can introduce some presets and maybe just adjust trim to taste based on how aggressive they are.

I still vividly remember some of your animated stories once you got your 2400's and what they were doing in your room,,,,, the cats response to one of your bass fest movies still makes me laugh.

2019 has started out strong in some ULF monsters, if you havent bought Overlord/Hunter Killer/The Cloverfield Paradox, do yourself a favor if you want BASS demo material.

Got my movies mixed up F-ing Irene is lone survivor right?

Yeah, like @basshead81 , my passion for HT was reignited in 2010 by 2 movies, the previously mentioned Tron:Legacy and the other was Inception

Great bass, story, acting, musical score, immersive surround sound....just awesome all round for me! I couldn't wait to start upgrading my system after watching this one

Tron: Legacy, The Incredible Hulk and War Of The Worlds must be the most commonly referred movies that ignited people's passion for subwoofer upgrades, and in the case of T:L, probably also for display upgrades.

And Inception is fantastic as well. I'd double like your post if I could, lol.

Agreed! I watched it last night as well and then again today along with Cloverfield Paradox. Overlord at -1 was INSANE. That opening ~15 minutes is some of the best bass/audio I've heard. My new go-to demo scene for guests! Killer stuff

I couldn’t make it through 30 minutes of The Cloverfield Project.

Thanks for the reminder!

Going home to finally give Upgrade a reference spin. I never buy movies from Redbox as I like to have the case, but Upgrade is only $3.99 on Blu-ray!

I finished TCP at reference the other day and it was indeed a bass monster with no subtle notice before it hits (if you’re on your phone not paying attention browsing AVS for instance), so it’s just scary in that regard. I actually enjoyed it quite a bit more than my first 30 minute attempt on Netflix. Overall, it was worth a buy for the intro scene alone, and I’ll take back what I said about it having no replay value.

I may have to start browsing Redbox more for purchases while they’re still around. All the big used online movie stores seem to have gone under and most our local places too that had reasonable prices. Too many places still in business offer very little preowned discount...if I only wanted to save $2 on a scratched up movie and case, I‘d just buy it new. Not sure how some of these places keep the lights on.

Where does everyone in the states find good deals on used movies these days? I usually browse Blu-ray.com/deals when looking to buy new.

I usually live off Netflix's Disc Service and Redbox until I find some deals throughout the year on Amazon and Best Buy; although, I mostly clean up with $10 4K deals around Black Friday.

Welcome to your first taste of the bass! And if you keep hanging out here, by next year you'll have these!

Lol, love the look on his dog’s face. And for bassheads, this is a very accurate depiction of where the subwoofer journey takes us...I’m still surprised he’s looking to upgrade from those beasts.

Holy crap those are insane even the dog is shocked @SuperFist I think I would kill my family playing that because the house will break down
The VTF-3 feels like I'm on a Theme Park simulator in this small room!

You guys have to see what I had for two years believing I had a subwoofer

It's rated 60hz and 140w

Two years! Two whole years thinking I had a real subwoofer. I had no idea what real bass was like
I now have an excuse to watch every single movie I've seen all over again

Me, too! I had an Onkyo sub from my HTIB, but I had to go through 2 Dayton SUB-1200s to finally see the light and upgrade to a Real Sub with a PSA S3000i and then another one less than a year later!

Just an FYI, but the "60Hz" is in reference to your AC input frequency and not the audio frequency response of the subwoofer. You are in the US which is 120V/60Hz AC. There are countries that are 50Hz AC.

I saved up a ton so I could make a giant leap and have the upgrade slap me in the face

I guess I will have to start saving up for a second sub then but that might be overkill for my small room

Ahh I see. Thanks. I looked it up online and it goes down to 30hz I think. It was also bad since I can remember. The earthquake scene in Roma made it sound like a washing machine
