This audio mix is a delight. Much like Ant-Man 2, it isn't bass heavy, but the bass scenes were great and very well done. The movie had more action than expected, and the audio complements it very nicely. But the overall ATMOS track (core 7.1 Dolby TrueHD for me) is a show stealer. Very clear, detailed and precise, with an excellent sound design and a terrific score. The mix is very subtle when it needs to, and many have these small details going on, creating a very great atmosphere that demands your attention and helps you to be immersed in its fantasy world. I can only assume this track in its full ATMOS configuration should be a reference track.

This movie was slammed by the critics, but in all honestly I didn't find anything wrong with it. It's the second time I've watched it in the past three days, and I can see myself watching it several more times. It has gorgeous visuals and a beautiful, entertaining story. If you can find it for a very good price, give it a chance. The movie is for kids, but it has a lot to offer to adults, starting with the wonderful sound mix.

It's a Great Family bluray to have in your library for sure!
Available in 2D BD, Fantastic 3D or 4K/UHD/HDR,
and all come with Awesome ATMOS that hits 10Hz

[EDIT] I put in a request with Aron to see if he can BEQ/Spectum Graph it

Interesting stuff thank you.

So I was checking out some of the demos I have and just watched Super 8 Train Scene. I've seen it before on Blu-ray and remember it being extremely loud, most likely clipped. Am I correct in that guess? It's like you can't watch that scene at your normal movie watching mv.

I enjoyed How to Train Your Dragon 3 last night. It was a good story and a nice closing chapter. Was it as good as the first? No, but that one had all the excitement of meeting the characters. 4K on the OLED was amazing but I didn't notice anything that stood out with the Atmos track. The colors in the Hidden World scene was just outstanding and treat for the eyes. I thought the bass was excellent. Not really loud making one scram to the remote to turn down but strong enough to give the seat a good vibration, feel in your body (weird one was a pulse in my throat during certain scenes) and even shake the pant leg. Reminder my room is in the basement on concrete floor and I use sealed subs. What a great trilogy!

The "old" Bass movie thread used to: https://www.avsforum.com/forum/113-s...l#post20404062

But the list hasn't been updated since the OP went MIA several years ago, (2014?)

You could also peruse the demo disc options available through several forum members. Ultimate bass demo disc and scubasteve 2.0 being two of my personal faves. Those will both be dated by about 6-7 years but they are still great for a one-stop shop of demo scenes up to about 2012.

Speaking of which, are there any currently getting compiled? An updated SS especially would be AWESOME...

Last one I downloaded had to be a 2015 demo disc because it has Ant Man and a few other newer titles. Can't wait till they come out with an Armos/DTS:X Bass Demo Disc with today's best bass scenes!

I watched HTTYD Hidden World last night and wasn't too impressed with the soundtrack at first. Then the scenes played that made my entire house shake. My kids actually jumped up at one point during the movie and said "dang daddy, did you feel that"? I'm running sealed on a second floor and it was amazing.

About to watch Captain America Civil War BD (DTS-HD 7.1) and looked at the graph and it looks pretty low volume. How many dbs would you guys increase over your normal mv for this one?

Marvel movies usually take between 4-8db bump than normal to sound right. When I watched Civil War I think I used a 5db bump, much like Ant-Man 2. YMMV

I had a mate from work come over to demo my system last night and I revisited Underworld- Awakening. I'd forgotten just how amazing that sound mix is especially the opening credits and the Super Lycan scene. Completely pressurised my room bordering on structural damage. I'm running a PSA T-18 sub and handled it with ease. An amazing pre Atmos movie that still impresses.

Regarding HTTYD3, 1:19:14 was the first time I ever heard my subs bottom out! (Built in 2011, two SI18D2 drivers in 24cu ft LLT enclosures tuned to 11Hz). Fortunately, the subs seem fine as they continue to shake the room! I was running them with a +6.5db low shelf, buy my main volume was at -6.5. That will teach me to run a low end boost on a first viewing!

Unfortunately, I don't have the means at the moment to make a waterfall chart of this scene, but if somebody else is all set up, it would be interesting to see a graph centered around the above timestamp!

HTTYD 3 graph with time stamps in the left margin.

Right Side shows the Hot Spot at 1:19 is ~19Hz) -9dB (White Hot= danger zone)
...and extends to 15Hz but down -5dB (Left Side is with BEQ)

BEQ-D app adds a 20dB LS at 10Hz, which sounds like a lot at first glance,
But also tamed the spike with a -5 Peak filter at 19Hz to make it safer to run Hot
...that's a very good example of the difference between BEQ for a specific title vs a generic curve/boost.

Dashed Line is Before BEQ

Yup, I gotcha jamiebosco.
I probably could have said it better, but that is what I was looking for...a way to buy them from the AVSForum members that took the time to put them together.
I don't have the equip or know how to make them from the torrent or files, but I would gladly pay a reasonable price for the disk from the creator.
I have some of the dolby, dts, and thx ones that I was able to find on eBay, but us AVSForum users know exactly what is most impressive.

Captain Marvel? More like Captain 40hz!. What trash. I Doubt the UHD Atmos or BD track will be any better.
took this crap off my UHD Steelbook buy list.

What's sad is this track has massive weight with an extra 6db on the sub and it's sound design is pretty awesome with unique sounds. I'll never understand why they purposeful ruin a potential good mix. O well.

Pre-Ordered! (Two more Weeks)

Ralph's Review looks pretty good: https://www.avsforum.com/forum/187-o...ay-review.html

The BD already one of the Best LFE tracks from the 2016 list, and ATMOS audio,
So looking forward mainly to PQ upgrades with 4K/ Dolby Vision/ HDR-10 and WCG

I'll prob pick up that 13 Hours uhd as well. Can't hurt to double dip for some of that hdr goodness!
I'll skip Craptain Marvel. Don't need all that forced girl power nonsense anyway.
The uhd of Godzilla (98) was pretty lacking in the bass dept by the way. All those footsteps and cars bouncing could've used some sweet bass..

It’s only lacking if you let your MiniDSP sit in the box still
