Man, I haven't had to ReEQ (YPAO) anything in years as I can tell right off the bat if a movie doesn't sound right like I did with Midway regarding the lack of crystal clear highs and dynamics. I believe when you get it dialed in correctly, you won't even have to touch it again... unless it's BEQ!!!

Do you think this is the same problem you were experiencing a few months back with Spider-Man Far From Home?

Watched Spider-man Far From Home last night with some mixed results. I usually run my subs -5db for any movie and adjust from there.

This movie I needed to raise the main volume +3db and adjust the subs +2db but also the center and the surrounds. The center channel was muddy and needed to be boosted +8db and the surrounds needed to be boosted +2db and then reduced -2db when one part of the movie with wicked loud surround action that I haven't heard from a movie in a long time.
What Center speaker are you running? is it possible it just can't handle the MV you listen at and is distorting? What crossover point are you using on the Center?

Wow... jamiebosco for remembering! Yes I believe this was my issue from the beginning. Running a "flat" signal to my center at the volume I need it at was clipping the internal Yamaha amp. When I got a dedicated center channel amp the power was there but now I was able to hear the clipping (without blowing up my speaker) and now with my new Yamaha receiver having parametric eq adjustments I am able to eq accordingly. What a nice feature! I also DJ as my side hustle and one of few that still EQ the crap out of what ever I play any sort of music but thought I "leave it to the sound engineers" when it comes to movies. That was a rude awaking when not all movies are created equal which sucks big time because what a pain in the azz for all of us that run on the edge of destruction when it comes to volume and having to correct badly engineered sound mixes!

HTPC 5.1.2 on a budget...Epson 5050UB/120", 4-13.5" JL-Audio Subs, 4-10" JBL Woofers, 4 - Polk Surrounds, JBL Center, 2- Polk Presence speakers, 2 - Yamaha Atmos speakers, Adcom Sub Amp 555MKII, Yamaha Receiver TSR-7810

It sounds to me like you need a more capable center channel. Eq isn't likely going to fix your problem.

I agree with this. Another thing to consider is how your room is treated. Adding treatments can greatly tame an unwieldy speaker and provide more accurate sound. The center channel is hands down the most important speaker of the front 3 when it comes to movies. Tame that beast! There is no reason to have to adjust levels, besides master volume, for speakers foe each movie.

I have Midway on preorder and the only reason why is the bass chart that was posted here, lol. Curious, is it shot at 60fps like Gemini Man? Every time I see the preview, it looks like it has the SOE going on.

On another note, we took the kids to see Sonic yesterday. Besides just being an all around great movie with an excellent Jim Carrey as the villain, it had a good audio track. Unfortunately, the had thee volume turned to about 5 out of 11 - stupid theater, crank that MV! I’m hopeful the home release doesn’t neuter the bass, because even with the MV low, there were some good hard hits and plenty of them.

No, it's 24fps. Maybe there's something with the CGI that it appears that way to you.

These new Marvel (Disney) movies have been known for their lackluster audio tracks...

I'd throw in a movie you're more familiar with and see how it sounds b4 I put much stock into one of these kool-aid Disney action flicks..

I graph the Disc for the movies. Sometimes i do the digital copies but only post them in the forums if it's worth it to check out before the disc drops. The movies you see on the front page are only Disc and nothing else. The Dolby Atmos and DTS HD are all disc. If it's digital i point that out clearly.

+1 on the "Best surround movies" thread.
OR How about a "Best Atmos Mix Blu-ray (not 4K Ultra)" thread?

I will list a few of my surround favorites.
The Doors (4K Atmos mix is incredible! No real bass, but the ambiance surrounds and Atmos is so enveloping fooling you that you are outside/in the room with the actors)
Transformers 2 (4K Atmos disc starts off with the transformer sounds engaging all the speakers as the studio logo and stuff comes up. Then there is all the chaos in Shanghai. Great Surround and atmos usage. All the Transformers are good with the sound far exceeding the stories.)
Ready Player One (4K Atmos. Stand out scene is the race scene towards the beginning of the movie. A stand out is where he collecting the coins)
Apocalypse Now (4K Atmos disc. So much excellence in this from the opening shots of the helicopter coming in to the battle scenes and bullets whizzing by. Just a top notch audio remaster)
Those are my tops

Honorable mentions Jumanji movies (4K Atmos), Harry Potter movies (4K DTSX), Kong Skull Island (4K Atmos), King Arthur Legend of the Sword (4K Atmos)
Musty Hustla and Hopinater like this.

7.3.4 Setup---TV: LG OLED 65B7A, Receiver: Marantz SR-6012, External 2-channel amplifier: Marantz MM7025 (Front Towers), Blu-Ray Player: LG UBK90, Fronts: JBL S312, Center: JBL S-Center, Surrounds: JBL S38, Surround Backs: JBL S36 ,Top: JBL S36 (4), Subwoofer: 2 PSA S3000i and one PSA XS-30se

I know that sometimes people who are new to surround sound want to hear those surround speakers...however, there is a definite difference between movies with the best surround mix and movies with the most surround activity.

Which are you looking for?

Another one is 13 hours. You can hear the bullets flying all over the room... especially with Atmos.

For all things audio, Inception remains one of my go-to movies to showcase what my system can do. Outside of the fact that it's just a phenomenal movie, the audio mix is in a category of it's own. Excellent use of bass with a wide, varied overall soundstage.

The soundtrack is the only thing good about this movie. WAAAY too long. At least the bass track might keep you awake.

I recently got my first projector screen installed and being home sick today, I decided to throw on Mad Mad: Fury road. Well, it looks like I have some new rattles in the room to sort out! The dang projector screen is vibrating! This was with the screen up as I was just watching on my tv.
Not sure if it'll make this noise with the screen extended but it sounded like it was coming from where the screen case mounts to the roof so I'm guessing it will.
Anyone else ever had this?

Might throw on Blade runner 2049 to get a good read on it
