We watched Birds of Prey last night and really enjoyed it. The surround mix was awesome and as for the bass, wow! This one will lift you off your seat!

Any idea if the 4K VUDU version of WotW has the same weak ULF as the disc?
At the price on Vudu I plan to buy it as I want to hear the Atmos and see the HDR, I'm lucky enough to still have the DVD around for the chops

Looking at this, the original Cloverfield not getting at ATMOS upgrade on the 4k doesn't look so bad, huh? I think most folks would rather use an upmixer and keep the bass, than have proper ATMOS object and lose the bass, right?

Whoever did it, should be ashamed of themselves. Not even the BEQ could save this one. Crazy. They should have done what Warner does, and include the DTS-MA in addition to the ATMOS. Now it would've been justified.

Edit: heatmaps, from the BEQ thread. Guess which one is which

An absolute travesty. I'll save my money, keep my blu-ray and use the up mixer to feed the overhead speakers.

Neutering the bass of any movie is audio blasphemy. But neutering War of the Worlds takes it to a whole new level of "WRONG". So sad.

The fact that the majority, if not all (Potts excepted) reviewing sites are giving the audio the highest marks is going to finally make them lose credibility between audiophiles/bass heads, if they had some to begin with. It's like they simply were never aware of what made WoTW a legendary audio track.

They aren't into this like we are, Anyone worth their salt knows War of the Worlds (2005) is a monster bass film, This fact i knew literally after i purchased my system in 2015. I think if you are a movie reviewer movies you should have a system that is beyond capable and up to the standards of the format you are reviewing. ULF capable subs, Real top atmos speakers ect, OR MAKE IT VERY CLEAR WHAT SYSTEM YOU ARE REVIEWING ON. but most don't care about the hobby enough to go that far, they just review it on a crap system, call it a day, get $$$ for their website and discs sold. they kiss the ring for that unlimited supply of review discs and nothing else matters.

This needs some clarification. The original analysis over at data-bass stated the DTS mix was louder, this based on the analysis of the total sound wave, not individual frequencies of a graph. This, reasonably, led to the conclusion the bass went deeper or the bass graph was different. I recently quoted the post that referenced it, I'm going to update this post with it.

The overall mix on the DVD is louder (hence more clipping) but the bass content is the same

Yes. That was my understanding. But some people think the DTS went deeper, and as you showed, that's not the case.

Same here.. Already have the BD version. Watched it so many times already. Can’t wait to watch in HDR and ATMOS. Too bad about the bass, but I’d still like to add this to my collection.

Wow that WotW graph is painful. I'd been thinking of upgrading my DVD version and have been doing 4K discs to get Atmos tracks, but instead I just ordered the blu-ray after seeing those two graphs. With Amazon rewards it cost me a whopping $2.28 lol.

Pansonic TC-P60VT60 | Denon AVR-X4500H | Sony UBP-X800 | Chane A2.4 L/C/R | Chane A1.4 SR | SVS Elevation Atmos/height | SVS PB-2000 | Logitech Harmony 950 | Arris MX011ANM (Xfinity X1) | Apple TV 4K
