JTR + Salk - Best of both Worlds?

I'm happy to announce I just ordered my custom JTR/Salk sub. Since meeting Jeff Permanian & Jim Salk 6 years ago my love for this "hobby" has accelerated at a dizzying pace. My first purchase from either was the Salk HT2-TL's from Jim (pictures attached). These speakers continue to amaze me to this day and for 2 Channel I don't have any desire to upgrade (which for me is bold statement since I tend to switch equipment out frequently). The mid-range and treble of this transmission line speaker is right at the top for me. Next big purchase was the JTR S2 subs from Jeff. A pair of these bad boys have handled the LFE duty for me for the past 5 years in many different configurations. And I have learned over those years that JTR makes the best subs in the market...in my opinion.

In my current setup, JTR speakers & subs take care of the audio duty in my home theater - the Savoy. Upstairs, in my "2 channel" area, the Salks have been playing music for the past 3 years. A few months ago, while preparing for DJ'ing for a wedding, I hooked up at JTR Cap 1400 next to the Salks. Whoa...a little more heft in the low end. For female vocals, not a big deal but throw in a little Metallica and I definitely preferred the sub in the mix.

So that got me thinking...how can I add a JTR sub into my 2 channel mix and aesthetically match my Salks - black satin paint with Mexican Cocobolo stringers? Wouldn't it be awesome to get a sub from JTR that delivers top notch bass and have a cabinet from the master woodworkers at Salk? This led to a discussion with Jeff & Jim - can you guys work together to give me a JTR S1 that matches my Salk Towers? And thankfully the answer was yes. Obviously the S1 will be complete overkill for the Salk HT2-TL's from a capability perspective but nobody on this forum has ever been criticized for having too much sub.

The wait begins...looking forward to my drive to the JTR shop in a couple months to pick up my JTR/Salk S1. Thanks to @Jeff Permanian & @jsalk for making this happen...two of the best in the industry. I'll post more updates during the wait...can't wait!

First of all wow that serious high end stuff that I have never experienced. Second it's really awesome that they are willing to work together like that. And last, oh my god is all that good sound ridiculously awesome. Good luck and let us know the end result of all this.

you need a special sub to match your towers? you go...
or did you just pay Mr Salk to paint your jtr sub?

I guess Brians subs dont match well with salks anymore...or like I said you just wanted a paint job.

Salk is going to build the cabinet...stringers take a little more work than just a paint job I believe.

let me clarify a tad, congrats on the new build...I would of just taken my sub to a custom car paint maker myself...but gratz on the combo.

i think vinyl wrap a cheap alternative. price out a custom paint job and it probably makes a pair of designer speakers a steal

Woah, that is so cool! How great is it that 2 competitors can agree to do that! Not surprised though after meeting Jim and having known Jeff for quite a few years.
That will look and sound amazing, I love the feel you get on your suspended floor when the bass is cranking, and I'm very curious how that will sound with the Salk's.

I can't wait to see what this looks like!

Where did you place the 1400? Is it a spot that looks good and sounds good at the same time?

The 1400 looked great to me anywhere but it was to the left of the cabinet. I'll stick the JTR/Salk S1 to the left of the equipment cabinet or to the left of the left speaker. Would like to move the darn year long Christmas tree

Progress...Jim Salk is shipping the cabinet to JTR tomorrow so anxiously waiting some pictures of the cabinet. Jeff only needs a day for assembly so as long as @desertdome does his job and attends the JTR Open House on 12/9....I should have a sub in-house on 12/10. Thankfully I live in between DesertDome and JTR so it makes a drop off possible

Will post pics as I receive them.
