Personally, I wouldn't be too worried about it. If they had the 15" open box for 15% off right now, I'd be very tempted to buy one.

Personally, I would wait for a sale before rolling the dice on open box. The Monolith 12 was just recently $675 new, so it would be very hard for me to actually pay more for used.

I agree. I just bought 2 new for $675 each. If possible, wait for the memorial day sale.

Just noticed in your signature that you have a XTZ 1x12 sub. Do you like it? How does it compare with the others?

Not sure if you saw last summer the ordeal I documented with XTZ on the XTZ thread or not. If not, to sum it up I received the 1X12 damaged and had a terrible time communicating with XTZ on getting a replacement. I eventually did get a new one, but it took forever and a lot of headache. Their communication and reliability were awful.

As far as the 1X12 itself goes, it's a great little sub. I got it for $599 and it looks like they go for $649 now. I have it in my main floor living room where my wife often watches TV, so it rarely gets much of a workout. The 1X12 is a smaller form factor, sort of similar to the smaller design of the RSL Speedwoofer 10s. Front slot port on the 1X12 can be left open or you can use it sealed with the included foam plug. It's a great sounding sub, also carrying the THX Ultra certification like the Monolith 12. Compared to the Monolith 12 the 1X12 has as much or more output capability 30Hz and above, but below that the Monolith 12 has the advantage. So for home theater use the Monolith 12 will have much greater capability lower in range, but the trade off is the Monolith 12 is a much larger cabinet compared to the 1X12.

I will echo what the others here have said and wait for a sale. New ones can be had in the $640-$680 range (15-20% off) if you are willing to be patient and keep an eye out. The coupons also sometimes work on the open box items, so you could potentially get that price down in the $540-580 range (15-20% off). One thing to keep in mind is that the open box items only come with a 90 day warranty. Make sure the discount you are getting is worth the loss of the additional warranty (5 years on Monolith products).

I just seen that about 90 days ill pass that for sure.. They also don't guarantee it will have the grill.. But not having the 5 year warranty is huge..

holy crap I thought open box still included the 5 yr warranty. If its only 90 days then it doesn't seem worth any kind of small discount.

Piece together some settings for the Monolith 10 from this thread

Before running Audyssey on the sub:
6+ DB Gain knob
160Hz cross over knob max
Extended EQ switch
THX Cross over switch

Sub level showed 85 DB during setup.

After setup manually adjust on AVR:
Front speakers 80hz
Front speaker trim -11.0
Sub trim -4.0

Dynamic EQ enabled

Let me know if anything looks wrong or off, thanks! The sub sounds amazing

Subs using different types of amps can and do have different gain structures. Speakerpower amps vs claridy vs SVS sledge vs Bash vs Rythmik all have different gain structures, so a knob say at noon on one amp will not necessarily equate to the same output at noon from another. However max output is max output it’s just how the structure of the gain is set up. Hope that makes sense.

There was a sale about a week ago. Might have to wait and see if there will be a 4th of July sale. They could just choose a random time and do another sale like they sometimes do.

People have had good luck buying Monoprice subwoofers with Ebay 20% of sales/coupons. Keep your eye on ebay, and if they run a 20% coupon, try it. Monoprice, last I knew, sells their subwoofers on ebay, as well.

Monoprice runs promotions frequently but they are usually short. Therefore, the sale will probably start on Friday 24th.

It's not like you can get the Monolith subs everywhere else...

Speakers: L/C/R: JTR Neosis 212HT. Surrounds: Jamo C103, KEF Q100, Polk Audio RTiA3.
Subwoofer: JTR Captivator 4000ULF.
AVR: Denon AVR-X4400H. TV: Samsung UN75NU8000FXZA.

FS: Jamo C103, KEF Q100 and Polk RTiA3

Ebay almost never has 20% off coupons; it has been almost a year since the last one. Coupons for 10 or 15% off have been more common, but the discount is always capped at $100 or less anyway, and the most recent 15% off coupon excluded electronics. So when buying something expensive, the eBay coupons are effectively $100 off (at best), and it may become the norm that they exclude electronics. Ebay coupons have also become more infrequent than they were last year. AFAIK, there hasn't been a coupon with a $100 max discount that did not exclude electronics since December 8. But eBay coupons are definitely something to keep an eye on if someone wants to buy a Monolith sub. FWIW, they are also available through Groupon and Rakuten. I think Groupon Goods coupons are typically capped pretty low, but you can usually get a good casback rate for Groupon, so the total discount might be decent when a coupon is available. Rakuten sometime has decent promotions, but they are typically points back as opposed to a discount.

Why? The seller is Monoprice through all of the aforementioned sites. Why would you feel safe ordering from the Monoprice website but not ordering directly from Monoprice through a different site? And it is sellers who should be fearful of eBay; not buyers. Ebay and Paypal are completely on the side of buyers. It makes no sense to me that you wouldn't want to order from whichever marketplace had the best price since Monoprice is the seller on all of them, but whatever.

679 is open box price.. If i could get it for 699 on ebay I would.. Anymore open box is a better deal.. Just risking a cosmetic spot..
