The 15 inch model seems pretty aggressively priced.

That would be my guess I wonder why they didn't do a 18" driver and box that would of been nice.

"The new Monolith THX Subwoofer series comprises three models ranging in price from $500 to $1,300, each featuring a Texas Instruments 48-bit DSP engine that monitors transfer function, power output, and thermal conditions “to the millisecond."

Does this imply a force feedback system or just marketing?

Awesome. This will surely hurt the Outlaw X13 unless they lower the price significantly.

Totally unsubstantiated, utterly baseless theory that I'm tossing out for the hell of it:
Given the timing of each company's release and the sort-of-similar box shape and appearance, perhaps Outlaw did the designing for both (and is making royalties off of each Monoprice unit) and Monoprice ponied up some production capabilities for both companies. This would afford Outlaw the financial flexibility to move fewer units at a premium compared to MP but still make money.

Again, this is nothing but a wild theory built upon literally zero facts other than it's unusual that two THX-certified subwoofer lines (that might sorta share some physical design elements if you squint hard enough) come out at the same time.

The Monoprice models dont seem to be sharing the same driver type as the Outlaw X13, at least looking at the surrounds, with the X13 using a double roll surround. The Mono 15" also going with triple ports versus two. And the plate amp layout doesn't match. I think the Mono 15" at $1299 is going to create some pressure on the X13.

My theory is that Claridy Audio is making both of them. They are one of the go-to OEM THX manufacturers and they manufacture the newer THX approved components class.

Outlaw just had a labor day sale for the Outlaw X13 at around $1,100 I think. I was thinking of getting it but then heard about the Monoprice THX subs and want to wait to hear more about those.

I do believe this will create pressure for Outlaw to either lower the price or Monoprice to raise theirs if they think they can.

Yeah, Outlaw is going to have to do something on their pricing. When the Ultra-X13 ($1658 shipped) is reviewed and compared to have similar performance to the SVS PB12-Plus ($1400 shipped), there's a major problem. Most consider SVS to be rather high on the pricing scale, so going way beyond their pricing for a similar product is going to drive people away. Not to mention the other subs with better performance at around $1000. These Monolith subs coming out in November will only make matters worse for Outlaw, as they are stealing some of Outlaw's thunder with their subs also being THX certified.

No matter how good the subs are, I just can't see myself spending $1,299 for anything from monoprice. It's like buying a $25 hamburger from McDonalds.

I think that's going to be a big challenge for them. I'm obviously speaking from a biased perspective but can you imagine the difference between say calling and getting Mark Seaton on the phone to discuss a setup issue versus a generic phone jockey reading from their script at mp?

I still remember when these subs(or at the least a very close version) were first announced(over a YEAR ago I believe?) on AVS. With included extreme claims of output(which would never vetted). The very vocal minority claimed way back then it was the end for ID companies like Seaton and us

Well, it's on Clarity's website, so if it isn't true, there is no way for the public to know that it isn't true.

I understand the sentiment but Monoprice is being aggressive in bringing higher-end audio to the masses at affordable prices.

The Monolith 7 amp is an example of a great price to performance ratio.

I think some of the other ID audio companies may be in trouble if Monoprice is successful in this space.

I would say their current MSRPs are competitive. Not great.

Same link still has the KK stuff listed too. And the HK 88...how long has that been out of print?..

Anyway, not here to break anyone's beaks. Robert is a great guy. Just him working with svs again after how he got treated...just thought it sounded...peculiar. Carry on.

avnirvana reports the amps are
Amp: Claridy DSP500 and dsp 1000
500w rms for the 10 and 12" and 1000rms for the 15"

and THX started an Approved Components Program in january of this year and states
"Initial ODM partners of the “Approved by THX” program include Claridy Audio, StreamUnlimited and Zylux"

StreamUnlimited and Zylux appear to have a different target demographic

Claridy is a THX development partner and states they are end to end thx certified

"THX Development Partner
•End to end product development of THX Certified products.
•Speaker drivers and electronics all THX Approved for use in THX Certified products"

and we already see they do the svs cabinets

so claridy does look like the developer
----------------------------------
some specs that i don't often see

REF Level (100mV @ 40Hz): 89dB @ 1m (solid midbass if i am interpreting this right)

the specs i don't understand are

harmonic Distortion (2nd & 3rd Harmonics): <1.0% 20-100Hz ([email protected])
I have never seen the [email protected] spec for a subwoofer before only "thd" that is much lower than that

so this does look interesting on paper but we have to wait for november release date for user feedback

remember:
several subwoofer companies can meet "and exceed" THX standards , they just didn't pay for the THX testing and logo

Audyssey is a great start, but not always a great finish.

Congratulations, you have now qualified yourself to run for political office!
But then again, yes, production quantity has a huge influence on price, so maybe it is possible.
