I have an 8 year old PC I built that I use for HTPC. It has an i7 950 at 3.2Ghz and 12GB of DDR3 RAM running Windows 7 Pro and a cheap Radeon 5700 GPU... I do NOT get any judder, stutter whatsoever from Jriver, MPC-HC, MPC-BE or Cyberlink PowerDVD 17.

I used to feel the same way as you regarding hardware players and I have 2 of them that do not have Cinavia added, but I just realized I haven't used them in about a year. On a newer HTPC without a GPU, I occasionally had stutters ever so often, but using my older built PC with an old GPU, I don't have any... and I also play 4K UHD rips as well. Now all of it plays and sounds awesome!

no, nowhere near I'm afraid. There isn't really a GPU powerful enough to turn everything up to the max in madvr for certain workloads but, practically speaking, the real bells and whistles start around at something like a 1060 grade GPU

I watched Miss Bala (2011), a fantastic Spanish film about a Baja pageant winner being in league with the Mexican cartel (or so it seems) starring Stephanie Sigman, Juan Carlos Galván and Noé Hernández. And afterwards I watched the American remake of it, Miss Bala (2019) featuring Gina Rodriguez, Ismael Cruz Cordova and Anthony Mackie.

I mean... I love Gina Rodriguez as she puts forth a great effort, but the clear winner for me is the original Spanish film Miss Bala (2011). The raw, visceral feel of this film had me riveted as Stephanie Sigman's performance was truly believable as the story was palpable. The bass adorned the activity very well and many of the shootouts sounded nearly as real as Heat and Den Of Thieves! Anyone who wants to see the original, creative version of this film, you must do yourself a favor and catch the 2011 version... with BEQ, obviously!

Now the remake was... okay. Switched up the ending a bit, but it was alright as an American remake with the fanfare and hoopla that goes with it. I'm not knocking it, but after watching the original, it will take a back seat. There is more music and somewhat more frequent bass... a little better due to the frequency of it, but that's about it. I enjoyed it, but the performances, honestly, couldn't measure up to the Spanish original. Maybe I'm just biased in that respect and it's not because I watched it first, I actually watched this remake a while back, but I couldn't get through to the end due to rolling my eyes at some scenes. But I don't want to discourage anyone from giving this remake a whirl, because the BEQ'd bass is pretty good.

Spoiler!

That's good to know. I know that system could use an upgrade. I've been milking it along for years and years. I could possibly grab a 1060 if that's what's necessary. I'll have to do some research on what's recommended. I know the more the better, however, as long as I get the same quality upscaling I get on my bluray player, I'll be happy. I don't need all the bells and whistles and I still only have a 1080p projector but I would like to give the other media centers a fair shake. I know that 710 isn't gonna cut it.

If this works out and I start re-muxing the atmos to the bluray then I could start using all the BEQs.

Yeah I suppose the main thing for 4K UHD is you want something with hardware HEVC decoding, ie: a 1050Ti etc

Even MPC-BE has what looks like 3:2 judder but all the EVR settings are greyed out so you can't change them and TBH it's just easier and more user friendly to just use Kodi as it also remembers where you left off and leaves a tick once it's been watched
Might want to check the Zidoo z9s thread here. I've one of those. There is analysis of framerates on those with different players. Zidoo does it well.

The other option for remuxing (what I've done also) is iso and burn to disc.

That said, given a lot of the atmos tracks are disneyfied, sometimes I'd be better off sticking with the original 7.1...! For nice Bass heavy tracks like Aquaman, works great!

Hey, @DesertDog , could you remove Hot Fuzz from the repo. I used the wrong MV adjustment (-2), when it was supposed to be +2. With that adj, I can't properly BEQ it without compromising the original sound design. I'm sure aron7awol would be able to do a better job with it if he is so inclined. I've deleted the post.

Updated because for some reason the filters were wrong but it still showed the graph for the right filters. Odd but it's fixed now.

Just to verify before I update, this version with 5 filters at 19 hz is the correct one, right?

I'll update once I get the confirmation since the one that's currently listed is milder.

Updated this after testing as it sounded too heavy. This now has a flatter average curve.

Getting closer to BEQ time! Got most of the bracing cut for my Left and Right channel speakers last night. Glue up tonight - stiffeners and front baffles. Bondo touch-ups hopefully Thursday, and then it's on to cutting Center channel parts. Hopefully by next weekend I'll be at the veneer point for all 3. After they are complete, it's BIG Dual Opposed time!

I have a feeling I'm going to be VERY sleep deprived after the sub is done, and then I have eleventy-billion movies to watch with BEQ!

Considering my normal timeline for projects, End Game should be out and BEQ'd by the time I'm done, lol. Better start with Blade and run through them all!

That's up to @DesertDog , as he maintains the repo. I would hope that it wouldn't get overwritten, and I don't think it will. My guess is he'll put Atmos and DTS-HD versions as separate files.

They are separate files in the repo. Everything is named with the suffix "BEQ audio type". So if Aron updates the Atmos and there's also a DTS-HD MA 7.1 version of the movie, the Atmos file will be updated to the new BEQ and the DTS one is untouched. Take a look at Jurassic Park (1993) in the repo. It has two files like this.

Some of the older movies are also like this (Predator, Captain America) where we had the base layer mix and then got a new release with Atmos.

On your first comment did you mean that the atmos would be untouched? Why would the atmos be updated to the DTS-HD MA?

@3ll3d00d I don't know if this isn't on your list already, but would it be possible to implement a sorting function for the "Filter" window?
I would find it helpful to sort the filters by frequency (ascending), which is how I like to keep my filters inside the miniDsp in order.

This one looks awesome!
Oh nice!!!!! Throughout the entire film. It isn't on Netflix Australia yet. I am waiting for a blu ray though - and hoping for 3D too.

BTW, sorry to bother you but have you had a look at the Alien 4.1 DTSHD? I've heard numerous reports on blu-ray.com on the quality of the 4.1 being 'better'. I'm still waiting on my UHD

Will the updated BEQ of wonder woman work the same for the blu ray version since it’s Atmos as well?
