@PioManiac I've got a day to myself, so we're trying to get a house curve down! First couple passes are attached below - The dark blue line is a pass in REW with no filters or anything. The green line is another pass with a +5 db low shelf at 20Hz, and the light blue line adds in a +10db low shelf at 10Hz.

Does anything stand out as glaring? I assume that my 1 FV15HP can't really get much lower than 12Hz or so, which explains the beginning-roll-off at around there.

Edit: tweaked the 60-80Hz range. Since my crossover from my main speakers is at 80, I think that's close to as flat as I can get the sub, with the 5dB shelf at 20Hz and the 10dB shelf at 10Hz, of course.

I like what you did over the original BEQ (21Hz +2 and 10Hz +3.5)

That 45Hz -4.3 LS filter keeps that Hot spot ~35Hz out of the danger zone (well above the -15dB line)
If someone had an aggressive house curve without your new BEQ,
...they may have found themselves jumping for the remote at the 2:00:00 mark

Do you have DEQ enabled in your AVR by chance? (Your baseline run isn't too bad)

Try to get a gentle slope from your crossover point to your peak output,
and don't go too crazy on the gain, +20dB difference is pretty hot. ...but not unheard of around here

Test drive a couple Bass heavy flicks (without BEQ) and keep your finger close to your MV
You could put 3 different curves in the miniDSP Config slots, leave Config 1 Bypassed
...then shift on the fly to hear for your self what the difference is.

You can certainly save several HC's in xml format in your HC save folder, rename each one.
Then when you do the merge function you can pick from Hot Medium or Light.

Yup, I had DEQ on. I turned it off, and tried a very smooth curve, and got the following.

Assuming you crossover at or around 80Hz, running the subs hot will give you a nice ramp between ~40Hz-160Hz (and resulting chest kick) without adding group delay. Then if you want additional house curve <40Hz a shelf will work nicely for that.

Ha! I thought so

DEQ is very similar to using a house curve and works well for most at mid-low MV levels.

However, as you approach reference levels on your MV, I believe the dynamics roll off to zero.
(Which is why I never use it myself, I think Yamaha calls it "YPAO volume")

A House Curve gets you a constant increase as your MV increases.
...for those with the headroom and like louder ULF/LFE at reference levels.

Got it - thanks guys! I've settled on a house curve as I posted above, with a very mild curve starting at 80Hz. I've watched a few minutes of a handful of movies right now and it's excellent - time to merge the movie BEQs!

Can confirm...

First time watching this (pre BEQ and crowsons) I sent my crown xls 2002s into protection mode...

Only happened once... pretty freaky, absurd bass then.... nothing and flashing red lights, not good lol

Someone posted in the "other" bass thread 2 days ago looking for a graph from How To Train Your Dragon: Hidden World
Because his Subs bottomed out for the first time ever around the 1:19 mark, (he had a +6.5dB gain LS and was running -6 MV) no BEQ

Without BEQ that's a recipe for disaster,
(Aron added a negative -5 PEQ filter to tame the 19Hz spike, while still bringing up 10Hz safely).

Thread here: https://www.avsforum.com/forum/113-s...l#post58100288

19Hz peak reaches -9dB at 1:19 (right side) and is already White Hot, adding another +6.5 Gain put it Well over the top

I'm guessing none of @aron7awol recent BEQ's have any spikes over the -15dB line...

That's actually somewhat surprising considering how capable his subs are. I feel like my house would break before I bottomed out my subs with a 19Hz tone. I wonder if he clipped his amp(s) by not having his signal chain properly set up.

In any case, hearing the words "Without BEQ" makes me cringe, feeling like I just got castrated.

I know there was a disc exchange program at one point,
but I was stubborn because I was sure I watched it already without issue,

EDIT...I found my old post in the Bass Movies thread, from October 2017

There must have been a FW update that screwed things up. Tried my PS4,PS3, Sony BDP S5100 and my Panny UB900

Since I just added a new Oppo 203 a bit over a week ago
I thought I'd try it again and the picture in picture issue is gone.

Tried it in my Panasonic UB900 one more time, still there

Finished tweaking and sampling. Merged my house curve with the BEQ movie repository and will be using Config 1 for those, and Config 2 will be my 'default' setting with just the house curve on. Thank you everyone for your help - now I might try seeing if I can run some type of correction on my 2.0 PC setup!

Side note - I assume I'll have to merge my house curve with the BEQ database every time I update the repo?

Just for Schitz and Giggles I just loaded up Sunshine
...and left my HTTYD Hidden World BEQ on the miniDSP

I kept my MV way down at -20 just to be safe, sort-of

Opening Chapter was a cool, Funk Driver and Crowson wobble
I replayed Ch.1 immediately after with my Config 4 setting (BYPASSED) and it was no where near as fun.

So Brother Aron, if you can add that to the cue?
I want to see what this looks like at higher volume without baking anything

Thanks'

There are a lot better Bass heavy scenes, this one was just a short one at the start
(sorry for the glare on the TV, had to have the overhead lights on to light up the Subs.

That's rather strange lol. I had never heard of the movie, saw it on HBO and 20 minutes in I stopped it and bought the disc. Better bass and no PiP issues on the 900, worth the 10$ for sure

I'm pretty sure any BD's purchased within the last 8 years won't have the PiP bug.
Mine was bought in 2008/2009 when it was first released.

It was listed as a 4.5 Star Bass Movie on the Previous Master Bass List

In any case, hearing the words "Without BEQ" makes me cringe, feeling like I just got castrated.

I actually played HTTY 3 with reference level bass with BEQ and I even slightly decreased the negative PEQ to -3dB at 19Hz and didn’t have any problems; there were a few good surprise hits throughout the movie, but nothing earth shattering.

I'm on it, extracting/analyzing now. I might not finish it tonight because it's getting late, but will definitely get it done tomorrow morning.
