Quick questions.. And sorry if asked...

1 - when loading in the movie eq Into minidsp, do I need to touch any settings for output side... I know eq for movie is on input side.

I ask, as I am using 2 subs on output side and they have their own internal bass eq...
When we load these movie eq configs, are they assuming the output is using all subs for the 1-4 outputs?

When I checked sub 1 output, there was a crossever pre set..
And sub 2 out has what looked like and cross over for using Main speakers and not subs...

I usually will set output to bypass.. Is this ok?

Thanks

2 - what is average delay in feet thr minidsp adds to most of the systems here using them...

Thanks

1-Are you manually typing in the BEQ filters, using DesertDog's REPO cloned to your pc or the BEQ-D App?
All three options have a different answer/solution (re-read the page 1 instructions, everything you are asking is already thoroughly explained in detail)

This is the worst one ever. Very little content, and tons of noise.

Iko Uwais was just nuts in the Raid series, so can’t wait to see him in action in Assassins. He’s an incredible choreographer and martial artist. Loving these full bandwidth Netflix series, will have to dive into it later today!

Also, the new sub hits like a truck, and this is easily the best I’ve ever dialed everything in. My room is making some ULF induced noises again, which is sort of a good indicator. Will have to add more isolation to the 7 doors in the room, as that’s a whole lot of rattling, but the distressing sounds are kind of cool at the same time.

If you load movies from the Github repo using DesertDog's Desktop app,
All your personal Output channel EQ/settings you've made get overwritten. **poof** gone!

To avoid this, You need to blank out your input channels,
Put your sub EQ, delays, and or/house curve on the Output channels
Hit Save (top left corner) and create a separate "EQ" folder to save the xml file.

Load the BEQ-D app, Use the Merge function from the drop down tools menu,
Hit refresh to get the updated Repo, select your Config file, hit Save

This process combines the BEQ list you cloned from the Repo, with your own EQ/House Curve
and overwrites all your movie BEQ xml files.

Like I said above, Every Step is outlined in detail in the setup guide on page 1

What movie(s) did you see the crossover set on the output? It shouldn't be set on any of them. I need to fix it if something was left on in one.

Aron, dude... Its like you read my mind. Thanks for update with the heat map.

I hooked up a BK LFE to my BOSS platform last night. Ran a test clip of this film during the lead in song at very beginning of the show. Also a test clip of Death Wish bar scene around 1:20. Both clips without BEQ. Greatest Showman gave the BK a clanging whereas no clanging on Death Wish.

I was going to post a request for the the heat map with time stamp to help to let me know where the trouble frequency is to prevent clanging with Mini-DSP via PEQ filter or just use compressor function. Now, before I asked you've already gone and done it Awesome always!

Speaking of, I wouldn't mind seeing a re-do for this one (it looks decent enough, so mainly ofr the heatmap and I'm also curious to see what you find about a MV adjust )

No rush, as always (I'm still working my way through the MCU since the updated ones were released this week )

As someone who is new to BEQ and having a Minidsp, i wanted to share something that helped me immensely yesterday!

Since receiving the Minidsp 2x4 HD last month, all i've used it for is BEQ. I've wanted to learn how to use REW to EQ as well as the Minidsp but haven't began reading due to lazyness to be honest. Well i stumbled upon this video 2 days ago and its opened my eyes to how awesome these tools are that we have at our disposal. I think its the perfect beginners guide to How To EQ. It doesn't tell you everything but it definitely gets the ball rolling, and with some practice and trial and error, we'll all get better eventually.

Below are 2 pics. The first pic is my before and after EQ, and the 2nd pic is the same as the "after EQ" graph except by itself so you can see it better.

Some tips i thought i should share:

I used both REW EQ and manual trial and error of Frequency, Gain, and Q in the Minidsp software OUTPUT channels.
When in the Equaliser tab option in REW EQ i chose Minidsp 2x4HD. I know this sounds obvious but in the video he recommends Generic (im guessing because hes using something other than what we have).

When you get to the Filter Tasks tab (in REW EQ), and you've got your desired House Curve/EQ results, click Save Filter Coefficients To File.
I tried using the export option and for some reason it didn't work for me when i tried to open it with the Minidsp.
Once your file is saved, open up Minidsp, go to your Outputs, i have 2 subs and i use Output 1 and 3. Click on PEQ. Go to EQ1. Click Advanced. Click Import, find your file and boom done!

Take a measurement with REW and see how it looks now that the EQ has been applied. If not satisfied, and most likely you won't be, continue this process using the rest of the EQ bands. I used 8 total out of the 10 to achieve my FR from the before and after pic. And like i said some were using REW EQ and others were messing with the EQ band (filters) myself then measuring and trying again.

I really hope this helps some people as prior to yesterday i was only using my Minidsp for BEQ, and now im actually EQ'ing my subs! Oh and if all this sounds weird or like its too much, just watch the video, follow his steps and come back and read this post and i think you should be fine as i tried to be as detailed as possible since i'm one of those that learns better with the more detailed instructions.

To the more experienced REW EQ and Minidsp users, if anything i've said is wrong or off, please feel free to correct me as many of us are new and still learning.

Note:

1- The House Curve portion where he saves the text file (the numbers for that Harmon curve are in his description) then uploads it in the House Curve tab in REW didn't work for me. I got nothing. So i basically skipped that step and just made my own target in the Target Settings tab in REW EQ.

2- Also, if you only want to EQ a certain part of your Frequency Response, say between 35 and 60hz, just enter those numbers under the Filter Tasks tab in REW EQ where it says Match Range.

I forgot to mention that once you are completely done and ready to watch a movie, you must follow these instructions to keep your EQ/House Curve stuff.

Wow, Brightburn is crazy and creepy, and the Atmos track was expertly executed with transients that take the creepiness to another level! Some really jarring moments.
