Finally watched this movie. I don't know if I watched any movie that is mixed hotter than this. For the first time I listened to a movie at -14db which is -4db below my normal levels. The movie did not just have ULF but massive mid bass. Even at that MV I felt the mid bass in the chest. This was really outstanding as you can see from the colors. The bass was tight, punchy and crip and not bloated at all. Very impressed!

Your experience with Immortals has got me intrigued, because I honestly can't remember watching this movie since I got my subs. Time to fire up this badboy along with It: Chapter 2 to make for some early morning Black Friday monster bass madness!

I can't wait to see this film! Looking forward to the UHD
On a new goodness note, anyone seen that movie with Sean Penn, The Gunman? Atmos too. It is in my repo. Some awesome tactile response LFE. Gunfire mostly. Great movie too!

I watched my first movie last night where I had to switch BEQ off. 'Green book'. At the very start of this movie there is a jazz club scene. I immediately noticed the bass notes from the band where OTT. Then there's a fight scene 'still in the jazz club'. The first punch sounded like a car door being slammed. At first I tried lowering the sub output by a few dB's, this didn't help. As soon as I switched BEQ off everything returned to normal. Punches sounded like punches.

I've only just got my system back up and running since my processor went down so something could be a miss in my settings. But it shouldn't be, my settings are saved and loaded via USB.

Anyone else noticed this with Green book?

^^^ I think it's just one of those movies that has no good ULF. That's usually the sign, where music has the most ULF and it just ends up detrimental.

His previous video also said they've likely faked the HDR on the original Star Wars movies too, capped at 400 nits

I am enjoying "The Mandalorian", yet I am disappointed in the Video quality. Not only does it have fake HDR, it seems flatter than SDR at times. Audio is decent, except I don't feel like we have been hit with a razzle dazzle moment yet. Doesn't help that I can only get DSL in my area, so it takes a couple minutes before the picture gets to 1080p.

Happy Turkey Day Guys!!!!!!

I went kinda crazy with Black Friday and bought nearly 20 4K movies LOL. Lots of them I’ve been wanting for a while now and just couldn’t pass them up with some for $7, 9, & 12 dollars a piece Also, pretty sad that some of the 4K movies I just bought not too long ago for ~$29, could have been had for about $12 today. Oh well I guess, that’s what you get for having to have them RIGHT NOW lol. Can’t wait to watch them all with BEQ

I was going to do a cross post here with the TR thread since I mentioned BEQ a LOT, but also didn’t want to muck up this thread with a bunch of TR talk too. If interested though on a few of the movies with BEQ and other TR ramblings, the post can be found over in the TR thread HERE

Happy Holidays All!!!! Movies and Bass just would NOT be the same without this awesome BEQ thread and all you guys do, THANKS SO MUCH!!!!!!!

Yes. It’s one of the handful I haven’t liked with BEQ. Just didn’t lend itself to the content and the bass was just overblown - not just your system.

I feel ya man I bought 16 4K's (or 24 if you count The 8-movie Harry Potter series). I didnt expect to buy so many but those deals were great!! Can't wait to watch all of them.

Last year I bought my first 4K movie....when these come in I will have about 80 4k movies....which I find crazy as I've never been the type to buy movies. But I guess when this is your hobby it's part of the territory, especially now that theaters don't wow me as much as my own. Add in BEQ and you no longer have a reason NOT to buy a movie lol.

Quick question: When we speak about an MV (gain) decrease after BEQ does it mean MV on the AVR or on the MiniDSP just for the Subs?

TIA

Any word on Rambo Last Blood yet?

Also, if you have Running With The Devil, that would be much appreciated as well.

Yeah, I tested it and it is music, so I tweaked the filters to what is hopefully the sweet spot.

The DTS-HD MA 7.1 track matches this 5.1 track. They're identical. It looks like they used the same mix but added in the 2 extra channels.

This one perplexes me even more than the doing the Atmos/DTS:X mix for UHD. Is 5.1 to 7.1 really a selling feature and going to get people to buy the UHD instead of or in addition to the BD??? It makes zero sense to me.

Same. I've said before if I had a choice between 7.1.2 a d 5.1.4, it would hands down be 5.1.4. 7 channels has no discernible improvement, but 3d sound does.

LOL... I'm glad to see I'm not he only one who lost control... after all, it's hard to pass up a $7 movie when it cost $22 the day before. I bought about 20 4K movies and 14 of them arrived today.

However, when I let my wife know she wasn't as thrilled about it as I was... go figure.

Hi guys.

I tried my first BEQ'd movie last night and couldn't discern any difference in the sound with and without BEQ. So I have obviously done something wrong and would appreciate a little guidance.

I have followed this thread for a while but could never find the time to get round to getting a miniDSP 2x4HD. Recently however my good lady went to stay with her folks for a few weeks and I thought I'd see if I could improve my sub response in my free time. I have two subs in 2500^3 ft lounge/cinema room above the garage. One is a JL Audio F113 the other is a JTR Captivator 2400ULF. I used REW to look at each individual subs response and quickly realised I needed something like the miniDSP to fine tune them. So I finally got the 2x4HD. After a lot of moving subs around the room and measurements, adding a 3.2ms delay to the output of the Fathom F113 in the miniDSP gave the best result. The plot below is the bass response of both subwoofers after running room correction on the AVR.

So now that the subs were sorted as best as I could manage. I thought I would try a BEQ'd movie and chose Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets..

I did it in the following way

I have a connection from my AVR to input one on the DSP. The subs are on output 1 (Cap 2400) and output 2 (F113).
Config 1 on the DSP is my "safe" config and is setup with a 3.2ms delay on output 1 to the F113 and no other changes. Also in this config the low pass and high pass filters in the crossovers for the Cap 2400 and F113 are bypassed.

Config 3 is the one I thought I would use for BEQ'd movies. This is setup with the 3.2ms delay on the F113 as above. In the crossover for both subs the high pass filter is bypassed while the low pass filter is active with the cutoff frequency set to 1000.
I then added the BEQ filters for the movie manually to input 1 of Config 3 on the basis that this will make the same change to both outputs on config 3.

Now the next part is where there may be an issue. When I make changes in offline mode and then connect via the USB cable to the miniDSP I get the green tick telling me I am connected but I don't get the Sync Configs popup which I think should appear. However when I check the BEQ filters I have added on input 1 of config 3 they are still there and as I have the green tick confirming a connection i'm assuming a movie now played with config 3 active will have the BEQ changes applied.

So I sat the kids down to watch the first fifteen minutes of Valerian first with no BEQ (config 1 above) and then started the movie again (now switched to config 3 above) and told them to wait to be wowed. Unfortunately there was no difference at all. We watched up to the point where the alien warships appear in the atmosphere and start crashing down onto the surface of the planet.. I was expecting some notably deep bass here but nothing.

So any advice on where I am going wrong would be appreciated. Just to be clear the above A/B test of Valerian was done with my laptop connected to the miniDSP with the USB cable and the green tick showing the two have a connection present.

Just watched this yesterday, and it has some pretty decent content on its own. Can’t wait to watch it again BEQ’d.

The file in the repo is always the latest version of it. There isn't a separate updated file.

It sounds like you set things up correctly. Double check that you have the high pass cross over turned off for output 2. It's on by default.

The lack of a sync dialog is concerning though. If you make changes offline and then connect to your miniDSP it should be prompting you to sync when the changed config is selected. I always get it, even sometimes when I don't think I've made changes. I'd go offline, change something around, and then connect again to see if you get it.

The other thing I'm wondering is if Valerian is a good test title, at the least in the first 15 min. We don't have a heat map on it so I don't know if there's a big difference at the start with and without BEQ. It's been awhile since I've watched it but it feels like it started off slow if I remember correctly. Do you happen to have First Man? It's great to test with since the opening scene is night and day with BEQ.
