However, going further setting the sub trim higher than about -6dB is a bad idea for listening at reference. -6dB should allow for a close to worst case signal of LFE and redirected bass to not clip the subwoofer output. It will very likely exceed 2Vrms though. Going to -12dB on the subwoofer trim would half the voltage. I'd guess most people have their trims close to 0.

He should not increase the gain in the miniDSP. That will clip the output. Although I'm not sure it's possible to have a positive gain in the MiniDSP. The MiniDSP needs a negative input gain that is at least equal to the largest overall magnitude of any EQ'ing being done in it (BassEQ excluded). So if you've got a net 8dB gain at 33Hz (say it's the highest frequency for gain) from the filters (EQ'ing and house curve) you need a -8dB adjustment at the input to make sure you can't clip the output of the MiniDSP.
I have come upon this old post. I am using MiniDSP with my NAD758v3 and I cannot change Sub trim after Dirac. It has been set at -3. I have an LS at 20hz on all three output channels with +5db and reduced the MV (total mastervolume in the minidsp) in the MiniDSP by -5db.

Should I rather reduce the input gain on channel 1 than the MV reduction? Or is it all the same?

I am not listening to reference level of 85db but to 75db. (-15db on the NAD, checked with pink noise and spl meter)

TIA
N.

It's hard to say exactly. I would reduce the input gain myself, but they might be the same. I didn't check.

You probably don't have an issue with clipping the input of the MiniDSP 2x4 HD then if you're listening at 10dB below reference with your stated settings.

Second the vote for The Lighthouse! From what I've read about this one I'm not sure how much BEQ may benefit this movie but at this point I NEED BEQ for every single movie I watch lol.

I've been waiting for this movie to come out. After a bit of time away (too busy at work) I'm anxious to watch this one on Friday night!

I cannot express enough just how much I loved this movie. It's been a very long time since a movie has haunted my thoughts as much as Joker has.....

I judge the quality of a film on how much it emotionally impacts me (good or bad), and Joker impacted me quite deeply.

100% with you Buddy!

Best film I've seen in years, and about as far from a typical DC/MCU comic book flick as one can get.
No super powers or special effects, but haunting performance from Phoenix that gives insight to the cold world that can turn someone who's already on the edge, into a monster.

I thoroughly enjoyed Joker and it had my attention 100% engaged throughout!

Great post Alan!!

This movie doesn’t create a great feeling and is haunting for sure, but I have to say that I totally agree that a movie is great or worth watching when it emotionally impacts you deeply like this and hangs with you for even several days after viewing. Not many these days can do that, at least not for me. Yeah, there are a lot movies that are “pretty good or decent” as far as the movie itself goes and even the bass and TR in particular sections that may hang with me for long afterwards, maybe even making it into my favorite re-played demo scenes lol, but as far as the actual movie itself “moving me deeply”, that’s a lot rarer.

My wife didn’t watch it with me because she has trouble watching this kind of cruelty and extreme violence, so I just watched it myself. And I have to say, even several days later it kept creeping back into my mind and I’ve even mentioned to my wife a couple different times that the Joker movie was something and how it affected me. I know a movie is a great movie, even if extremely dark, when it can do this to me.

Me and the wife have a lot favorites that affect us in a powerful way and love them for this reason

I didn't have any complaints with the BluRay. I have not seen the HBO airing thou, but the pics I've seen on the internet looked rather catastrophic. Yes, I watched the final season just now and yes, I stayed spoiler free. Had a few close calls, but I made it

I love dark movies. A desolate atmosphere (see for example The Witch or Blade Runner) will immerse me like nothing else. This could be because I've grown up playing video games and having European metal being one of my favorite types of music.

I don't see it as a reflection on you as a person if you enjoy that kind of stuff, to me it signifies that you regard such subject matter as a mental challenge to be addressed head on, the world isn't a pretty place, no point in hiding from it. Be a hero and overcome it.

Exactly this Alan! Any movie that leaves a lasting impact on me is excellent in my mind. Enjoyment is a different topic though; and this movie although excellent if someone asked me, is not a movie I enjoyed - as great it was it was just too dark for me because it seemed rooted in so much cruel truth!

You can run the sub flat and theoretically hit 130db peaks at +5MV with bass management.

So this video was you running flat and just +5 MV? Whoa, do you know the rough time stamp for that scene so I can get a reference point on the bass heatmap?

I run my PB3ks hot in a 6500 cu ft room (still within my tradeup period from SVS so I'm just going straight to 16ultras if I do it) and I'm being tempted by members of this forum to upgrade. I may have wrongly assumed that I am playing most movies near optimally based on FR and heat maps on this thread.

That's not my video. I don't know how hot the mix is, but I can't imagine it actually maxing out the ouput on all channels at the same time. It's just theory.
DW about the upgrade mentality. Do it right, do it once. AVS convinced me to upgrade from a single 12" to dual 21".

DW about the upgrade mentality. Do it right, do it once. AVS convinced me to upgrade from a single 12" to dual 21".

6500 cu ft!? Dude, you need dual TV36 iPals to hit some staggering bass levels in that room! (I love getting people to spend money)
