Help me choose a subwoofer. Image attached.

Thanks for your thoughts in advance.

Seats will be on the left, screen on the right. The room is about 14' x 16' w/ a vaulted ceiling. Mid point in ceiling is 12ft high.

I'm thinking of placing the subwoofer in hole where the fireplace used to be. I was also going to put the receiver and cable box in there with a custom shelf.

I was looking at the Klipsch R-120SW, then came across SVS. Not sure I want to pay $800 for the pb2000, but I am thinking about the pb1000 or sb1000. I'd like to be in the $500 or less range.

Room will be used for 100% movies. We don't like overwhelming bass. I used to own a very large Epik subwoofer, literally turned it off and didn't use a subwoofer.

I am using the older LSI speakers, floor standing fronts and LSIfx for surrounds.

Look at a Rythmik L12. Very well controlled bass output that won't get boomy (unless placed badly). Be sure you do a "sub crawl" (Google) so you are not sabotaging yourself with poor sub placement. Far superior to either Klipsch or SVS for QUALITY bass performance.

It's a VIRTUAL channel unless stated otherwise.

If your room ceiling height is averaged to 9' you have just over 2000 ft^3 of space. That's a medium sized room for subwoofer application. For your room size and usage I would be looking at a ported sub, not sealed. The Monolith THX Select 10, which was just recently on sale for $375, would be a very good option within your price range of $500. Regular price on this is $499.99. I have this sub and also have the SVS PB-1000 and would take the Monolith if I had to choose. One other option with more overall capability that is slightly over your price target is the HSU VTF-2 MK5, which is $607/shipped. Good thing about the HSU and the Monolith is they also have the capability to operate sealed, so it gives you some flexibility you don't have with say the ported SVS PB-1000.

And you do need to make sure you find a spot in your room where the sub will perform well. Just picking a spot due to the room layout often isn't a prime spot for the sub to operate. Sub crawl will identify the good locations for the sub.

BTW, there is no pic attached to your post.

Subs>RBH I-12e, I-12. HSU VTF-15H mk2. Monolith THX 12(x2), THX 10(x2). XTZ 1X12. SVS PB-1000(x2). Speakers>JBL Studio 270/235c/230/225c. Sony CS3/CS8/CS5. QA 3020i/3090Ci, 2020i/2000c. Monolith Cinema 5bs. Polk RTiA1/CSiA4. Other Audio>Sony MDR-Z7m2,V6, XB900n,700,XB32,XB31. Sennheiser HD58X,HD4.50,PC37X. HiFiMAN HE4XX. Philips SHP9500. SIVGA SV004. SA HDTwo. HyperX CloudPS4. TB Elite AtlasAero. LG FH6,RK8,RK7,PK5. HK Onyx Studio4(x2).

Monoprice rarely offers the Monolith THX subs on sale. The $375 sale was the lowest price ever offered on the 10. Sometimes ebay will offer a discount code that can be applied to the Monolith subs via the Monoprice ebay store. It's usually around holidays when sales occur the most, so around Memorial day would probably be the next best possible opportunity for a sale.
