Help me select a subwoofer.

My space is 2400cu ft, deciding between svs pb-3000, svs pc-4000, rythmik fv15hp or psa v1811. Suspended wood floors, av receiver is Yamaha a3070. At the moment have a 5.1.2 system.

The Marty's mentioned above are a great value DIY build, and I agree if you don't mind going the DIY route and have somewhere to put (hide) them, like behind a screen wall.

If this is going in a living room where you have to make it wife approved, the subs you mentioned are all highly regarded choices. I haven't heard all of the choices, but I would probably go with the PSA, but the PC-4000 gets a lot of love too. Rythmik is supposed to be excellent for music.

Sort of leaning towards the svs cylinder subs, what would work better, 2 pc-2000 or 1 pc-4000? Would the down firing drivers produce a bad effect with the wood floor? Will mostly be used for movie watching, a little music.

Monolith THX Ultra 15 should be added to your list. Arguably the best sub you can buy for under $1300 and very comparable performance wise to the $1900 SVS PB-4000.

I would seriously consider the Rythmik FV18 with the paper cone. Gives you useable response to 10Hz, and the paper cone gives you 3 db more output at 50Hz and above.

Appreciate the suggestion spyboy but the fv18 is just too big and too heavy.

If you're doing a single sub, any of the above.
If you can do duals, HSU VTF-3 MK5 HP.

Although (IMO) on a suspended floor in a room that size a pair of powerful 12"-ers (e.g., Monoprice Monolith 12", SVS PB-2000) would be pretty solid.

Well, then, definitely go with one of the subs you listed. If you stick with one, you'll be happy ( ); if you decide to go dual, you'll be happier ( ).

The Monolith 15 and Rythmik FV15HP are practically identical in performance (since Rythmik improved the port design to mitigate port noise in single port mode). The FV15HP has more manageable dimensions for most.

I would choose the PSA V1811, or the Rhythmik. I owned the Monolith and had high expectations, but mine was DOA, as a few others at the same time.

The VTF-15H.2 is a really good sub. I got mine when on sale for I think $1032 or something like that. As good as it performs, it just doesn't sound the same as the Monolith THX Ultra12, which is the best sounding and performing 12" sub I've ever heard or owned. The Monolith subs just play so clean and accurate that most people who have heard them are completely impressed. The Monolith THX Ultra 15 has been reviewed and measured by a few members here on AVS and the performance is impressive.

As far as the HSU VTF-15H.2 goes, it would be more than capable of handling a 2400 ^3 room. The Monolith subs go on sale occasionally and sometimes 20% off and at that price and with a full 5 year warranty, that's hard to beat.

Subs>RBH I-12e/I-12. HSU VTF-15H mk2. Monolith THX 12(x2)/THX 10(x2). XTZ 1X12. SVS PB-1000(x2). Speakers>JBL 270/235c/230/225c, Arena 130/125c. Jamo S807/S803. Infinity P363/163. Sony CS3/CS8/CS5. I have two VTF-3 Mk5s.

The main reason I got them over the VTF-15H was that the VTF-15H is supposed to be about 4 1/2" deeper. (Naturally, I have since shifted one to where depth is less important.) The VTF-3 is spec'd at 76 lbs. The VTF-15H, 95 lbs. They use plate amps with the same power rating, although they are not identical.

Previously, I had two VTF-1s (a Mk2 and a Mk3). The VTF-3 made a major difference on really taxing bass. (The worst case I've seen so far is Blade Runner 2049. The 10" subs couldn't handle it.)

I'd like to thank you all for your input on my decision, in the end it came down to svs pc-4000 and psa v1811, the pc-4000 is my pick, if it doesn't workout then I'll try the psa v1811. Once again thanks.

I had the same question. After much research I purchased 2 of the RSL Speedwoofer 10S for my system. Great reviews (especially when paired), great price, 30-day trial period and compact size to help please the wife. Good luck in your search.
