3 things

first off

you want to post all pertinent details of your room, equipment, WAF, housing situation, kids?, and such in the DIY section 'cause that's where it's happenin'

2nd

for $1K+, many will suggest the VBSS thread / builds as for major bang for the buck- go there and look thru it
if you could go to about $ 1500 you could get 4
but realistically, 2 would be the recommended start, easy to bring in , maybe stretch it a tiny bit and get the NX6000D amp (which can run up to 8 of those subs (iirc))

3rdly

leave now, you still can

help for building very simple, thoroughly detailed boxes will be a real plus

looking for your inquiry / build there there . .

You can definitely do something nice with that budget. Is this going to be hidden behind a screen wall or does it need to blend into a multi purpose room.

Most people seem to use the Behringer NX amps (or older Behringer iNukes). You want the 1000DSP, 3000DSP, or 6000DSP model depending on how many and what kind of subs you want to run.

Three possible choices are the Full Marty (or Mini Marty) sub using the Dayton 18" Ultimax driver. The driver is relatively inexpensive $325 (less when on sale) and they are tuned for massive low end output. The downsides are they are huge and heavy, so they don't often meet spousal approval unless you have some way to hide them.

The second option is theVBSS which uses the inexpensive Dayton PA-460 18" driver ($129 - less when on sale). The VBSS is known for mid-bass punch but can go fairly low especially when used in numbers. Each VBSS can be made from a single sheet of MDF, so combined with the cheap driver, they can be a really good bargin. They are also easy to drive.

The third option goes back to the Dayton Ultimax 18" and the Denovo Audio 4cf sealed box flat pack they sell for it. It's a small enclosure for a 18" sub and therefore meets WAF more often then not.

Of course there are a slew of other options, but these are some of the best places to start.

7.4.4 Theater Room: JVC-RS46U, Silver Ticket AT 2.35:1 142”, Onkyo RZ830, Anthem PVA-7, Panasonic DBT-110, JBL Studio 270’s, 4 - 15" DIY Sealed Subs

3.1 Living Room: Samsung 64” F8500 Plasma, Anthem MRX 300, Dynaudio Audience 52’s, Dynaudio Audience 122C, NHT SubOne

What are the decent affordable amps for single 15 or 18 setup. Any help is appreciated.
By far the easiest option is GSG, fantastic support and pre-cut kits (and they also sell amps and drivers):

Asarose is correct, the more info you give us the better we can steer you. Music or Movies? How big a room and how much space do you have?

Bang for the buck winner is a VBSS. I'm building a few now, $25 in MDF and $80 on a PA460 driver, insane value. Some form of Marty is also fantastic value, and the UM18-22 driver can be had for $250ish with sales and coupons. The Marty thread has everything you need.

Behringer NX series are very good amps for the money and are plenty for these value subs (nx1000d or nx3000d for the VBSS's, NX6000D for a pair of Marty's).

And yeah, the DIY rabbit hole is deep and the edges are slippery.

SPEAKERS: 3 x DIYSG 1099's LCR; DIYSG HTM 6's and 8's surround; 4 x RSL C34E's atmos.
SUBS: 4 x UM18-22 Mini Marty's (and always building, currently working on Devastators).
SIGNAL CHAIN: Denon X4400; Minidsp 2x4 HD; 2 x Jensen Iso Sub 2RX; 2 x NX6000d.
