Will be interesting to see what m0j0's experience is on this regarding the input gain levels.

So, to follow-up, here's my experience so far:

I had a BKA-1000N that I was using to power 2 x BK's in an MBK configuration (ButtKickers mounted to the back of the seat just below the Boss Back JBL). It was pretty wicked and was really enjoying it so ordered 2 more BK's to mount to the outside seats, but before I could get everything setup across the board, my BKA amp went bad.

I ordered the NX3000 and have set it up in bridged mode running all 4 BK's in a series/parallel setup (with pos to +1 and neg to +2 on the neutrik connector going into Channel A on the NX).

I had started with some testing where I was running the BK's flat to 90Hz with no PEQ other than amp rolloff, and I have the volume turned up about 3/4 of the way (about 4 clicks from max). Sounded and felt decent, but felt like there was a little bit missing in the few demo clips I was running at the time. However, started watching the latest Star Wars and the BK's were going nuts, just bottoming out hard, so I began to dial back until just below the 1/2 mark. This seems to be all the power that I need right now, so no concerns with gain levels!

I did eventually switch my BK's over in the mDSP 2x4HD to use some PEQ (same PEQ as I am using with the cantilevered BK's now) and it was much better in terms of the feel/impact using the previously tested demo clips. I am very pleased with the feel of the MBK's now with the current amp gain levels at 1/2 and the PEQ settings on the mDSP (which includes a +4 gain in the mDSP). I wasn't sure if the NX would be able to push the BK's with the same level of intensity as the BKA amp, but so far, I am more than pleased with it and definitely consider it a good option if you have a BKA amp and it goes bad.

Here are the BK settings I am using currently (which I more or less took from how @SBuger was running his cantilevered BK's before):

LS 15Hz, +7.0, Q0.8
LS 12Hz, +6.0, Q0.9
Negative HS 12Hz, -5.0, Q0.9
Negative HS 10 Hz, -3.0, Q0.9
Peak 10Hz, +2.0, Q1.0

So one thing I noticed while digging into the amp testing, and that might be relevant to the differences in BK bottoming you guys are seeing, is that maybe the DSP and non-DSP models have slightly different rolloff and that is the difference?

Are the guys noticing their BKs bottoming sooner in the singles running non-DSP amps, and the guys (Nalleh?) who don't are running DSP models?

I'm going to analyze the rolloff that notnyt measured on the NU4-6000 and design a rolloff comp filter for that. It might be a bit better for you guys with non-DSP models.

Edit: Just finished. It turns out I settled on the same exact shelf as the mDSP rolloff comp: LS 10Hz 2.3dB Q0.5, which makes the response +/- 0.5dB down to 4Hz!

So I don't know if that maybe partially explains the difference, considering it's only a 2.1dB difference in shelf.

Getting ready to test Monster BOSS version 2.0, GBE (Garbage Bag Edition)! Let out some air to lower ride height and added a super sophisticated sealing system (aka garbage bag). Going to give it a go tonight and see how it performs!

Just a heads up: using thin plastic can make a flapping sound from all the air movement(think plastic in the wind outside). That is why thicker plastic like builders plastic is better. Also using some kind of fabric underneath the plastic helps with the flapping

However you are on carpet, so that helps too

Yeah, I was worried about that, but so far, I have heard nothing whatsoever, so carpet must be helping.

Yep! I’ll be wiring them up today. For power, I don’t want to overdrive them, but I want to give them enough. What should I be lookin in terms of wattage?

Also, the platform is definitely sealed in a resting position. If I push on the cone from the backside it barely wants to move like it’s stuck. If I lift the platform to let air underneath the bottom of tubes (I used an adhesive on the top) then the cone moves freely. Is that normal?

Here’s what I used to seal the tubes. Double sided tape, at least the kind that I tried just didn’t wanna stick. This adhesive worked perfect. There was some excess on the side of the wood and I could scrape it off with my fingernail so it’s secure but not permanent and it has some give unlike glue.

I'm not sure what the RMS rating is on those but I'm giving both my UM18's a full NX6k channel each

@Magly Thanks, my first plan was to wire all of them together for a 4 ohm load and send power with one channel of a clone FP10k so around 500 watts each.

@tvuong Hey bud! No Crowsons in use at this time. I wanna get this sealed CLHB in effect and then go from there. From all reports, sealed BOSS kills it in the single digits which is what I was missing with my previous regular BOSS. I liked everything else about it. I also have a few Buttkickers. All the discussion about the x, y and z axis had me curious about maybe mounting the BKs mounted sideways directly to the couch frame to engage those axis in a different way?

I've been trying to catch up on this thread from the last week or so. Boy is it dense. It got me thinking though that we should do a summary of the filters, amps, etc. that have been discussed to have as an easy reference for new people or people getting up to speed. Would anyone be interested in working on it? The BEQ repo on GitHub has a wiki feature that I can give anyone interested write access to for it. Then we have something to point people to and a reference for ourselves. I was thinking maybe have a master page that's a baseline of everything and then Magly, Aron, Nalleh, or anyone can have their own branch off of it to document their set-up and config.

^^^ Most of it should already be in the "TR Curves" post I put together. I've been adding to it pretty regularly, and I'm definitely not done yet. If you take a look at the post and have any suggestions of what else to add, I'd love to get that sort of input.

All the discussion about the x, y and z axis had me curious about maybe mounting the BKs mounted sideways directly to the couch frame to engage those axis in a different way?
I cant remember where I read it, but I believe buttkicker says you need to mount their devices vertically to avoid damaging them. They can be upright or upside down but not sideways.

@SBuger thanks for the reply. Yes, I can honestly say that I am blown away with my setup at this point! Every TR component is bringing their individual strengths, or that something special that only they can do, and perfectly combining it together into a cohesive, unified TR experience! It's somewhat of a Holy Grail type feeling. I know I am perhaps missing out on the CLHB component but don't have the space in my room to accomodate that aspect. Otherwise though, couldn't be happier!

Awesome!! Yep it’s an amazing feeling to be where you want to be with the system for sure!!

As far as missing out on the CLHB ….you’re probably not missing that much without CLHB, especially with your bigger tubes and all that you are running now. I loved mine so much that I almost didn’t even mess with the CLHB addition. I do love the CLHB, but I could be pretty much just as happy with out it I think, since these HB's seem to be able to take whatever boost you through at it if want more on the low end. For me what I especially love is the overall feel when I switched to the bigger tubes. Still not as big as your monster tubes, but a lot bigger than the norm and made one heck of a difference for me in feel for the better. Almost an undescribable magical type feel and something that I KNOW you’re getting with those monster tubes you are using now.

Enjoy!!! I know that’s what I’m gonna start doing again. I had to take about 4 days off from the HT and TR’ing. I kind of pulled a lower ab muscle dunking a basketball and messing around (thinking I’m still young or something I guess LOL). It didn’t feel so good on the ab setting in the HT seat getting blasted by TR, as it makes me tense up my core area a lot of times and works the abs kind of like me an Aron were talking about the other day. So I just took a handful of days off from it. But it’s doing better now and got in a session last night with some more Altered Carbon 2 and a few of my favorite demos. Pure Joy it was!!!! So thankful to be able to enjoy it again and about went into serious withdraw without it!!! Gonna have to be more careful, cause nut’n more important than TR’n Hahahaha

I remember reading your change to the thicker tubes. I am using the 16 inch Goodyear ones from Walmart which I think were thicker than most FB begin with. Looks like the ones you are using are even thicker? Having any height issues now? Think you reduced the air to compensate for it? You don’t have any isolators anymore right? So the platform is just on the tubes now?

In version 1, I was at about 3 1/4 inches ride height, or a bit more perhaps. I also didn't have both tubes evenly pumped so one side had a bit more air than the other, but I figured it was okay for testing (also no seal with version 1). I let out a lot of air in version 2 and dropped the ride height down to about 2 inches (or maybe 2 1/4), but that didn't feel right with these tubes. In version 3, ride height is at 2 3/4 inches and feels "just right". For comparison, my other platform with 16" tubes has a ride height just a bit under 2 inches.

The Monster BOSS doesn't have any iso's, just the two big tubes up front and the three smaller wheelbarrow tubes in the back.
