Do you have or have had a Monolith subwoofer and had issues with MP customer service regarding the sub? I agree if you are looking for technical help on setting up a sub, Monoprice isn't going to be where you go. That's kind of one of the main aspects of AVS, right? I believe the guy to talk to at Monoprice is Hobie, who takes care of things over there. People who have had an issue with a return have mentioned Hobie takes care of matters in a very timely manner, so I see no reason to avoid such great subs over this. Like I mentioned, if you have an issue with a Monolith sub they will send you a new one. Some don't care for sending back the whole sub for say an amp issues and I get that. Me personally, I would rather get a whole new sub than have to start removing things from a new sub I bought and replace components, but that's just me. I know I had issues with my HSU VTF-15H MK2 and had to send the whole sub back and received a new one. These things happen with mass produced subs. At any rate, I've owned the Rythmik LV12R, SVS PB-2000 and PC-2000 and they are all solid subs, except I wouldn't recommend the LV12R or the update where they moved the port to the front. And to disregard an excellent and well made line of subs like the Monoliths over a few people complaining isn't something I would hang my hat on.

Subs>RBH I-12e, I-12. HSU VTF-15H mk2. Monolith THX 12(x2)/THX 10(x2). XTZ 1X12. SVS PB-1000(x2). Speakers>JBL Studio 270/235c/230/225c, Arena 130/125c. Sony CS3/CS8/CS5. I get it. I bet those subs are great. I unfortunately never have owned a MO sub. My bro in-law bought one and he has an issue where there was some buzzing noise. MP customer service told him he had to pay to ship the old broken sub back and MP covered shipping for the new Sub... Shipping was around $174. It would be cheaper just to send back the AMP instead of the whole sub.

IMHO I'd rather just support ID companies...they don't treat you like a number.

Not sure about the brother-in-law story. MP does not make you pay return shipping if your sub is defective. Anyway, you are entitled to your opinion, but in this case your opinion isn't based on personal experience. I have bought 4 Monolith subs and never had an issue with any of them, so 100% success rate. I have bought one HSU sub and had to return it for a new one, so 100% fail rate. That doesn't stop me from recommending HSU subs, however. And this is based of my own personal experience with the subs, not just something I read or heard somewhere.

Subs>RBH I-12e, I-12. HSU VTF-15H mk2. Monolith THX 12(x2)/THX 10(x2). XTZ 1X12. SVS PB-1000(x2). Speakers>JBL Studio 270/235c/230/225c, Arena 130/125c. Sony CS3/CS8/CS5. I guess they changed some things after so many complains. I still won't buy a sub or speakers from a conglomerate anymore I've learned my lesson the hard way.

I'll Support ID companies all day.

I think I am just going to be patient and out of all the subs mentioned whoever comes down to the $3xx range I will probably get. I will wait until Labor day or maybe black Friday if I have to! I feel like I need to get about 5-6 subs that I'm looking for and then just pick the best deal when it comes up.

Where are you located? Myself, I'm in IN near the Chi marketplace and I see good stuff on CL all the time. I just saw an older HSU VTF-3 MK3 for $275 asking price and a STF-2 for $299. So with some patience you might be able to find something used local to you on CL, FB Marketplace, offerup, letgo, etc. in the $300 price range. Getting a good used sub might be better than a cheaper new sub.

Myself I picked up an older HSU VTF-2 MK1 10" sub for $60. This 10" variable port tune sub sold for $499 back in the early 2K. It had a bad amp that I fixed and now this thing works like a champ. This single sub placed in my front right corner shakes my floor. My family tells me to turn it down. Yes my mains have powered 8" drivers (I got them cheap on CL as well) but thus HSU is very impressive for what it is.

Stick with the internet direct brands, even used and they will make you smile...or make you jump playing some movies.

I would be using Peoria IL or Bloomington Normal CL. I've looked at CL, FB, and letgo...don't see much.

How far are you willing to drive?

Same seller: Outlaw audio Audio LFM-1 asking $325 a few hours away from you.

Might be worth taking a look at. Not sure where exactly these are performance wise other than seeing they have lower output than the VTF3.

I wouldn't mind a PB12, it's been recommended a few times. But I don't want 2! Need to look into them a bit more, might ask if he'd just sell one though.

worldwidestereo just had a PB12 for $499, new. This guy is selling 2 PB12's for $1k and calling it an amazing deal. Am I missing something?

There are different models of the PB12. These are the PB12 Plus and the other are PB12 NSD.

Almost certain they were selling the PB12-NSD at that price which was the predecessor to the PB-2000 and performs a little under it and originally sold for $800 I think. SVS often re-manufactures it for black friday and sells them at ~$500. The PB12-Plus is the predecessor to the PB-3000 and sold for $1400 each. They were and still are excellent performers. So $1200 for 2 used PB12-Pluses is in fact a very good deal.

In one of his bump posts he lowered them to $1,000 for the pair.

Ahh NSD vs Plus. I sent him a message about just selling one, we'll see!

I think my main targets are going to be SB1000, PB1000, and VTF-2. Something like that PB12 Plus would be nice, but I almost feel like it's overkill for my needs.

You can always turn down a big sub... you can't turn up a small one.

Just wanted to update you guys and see if this makes any difference for your recommendations.

Some pics

16x17 room.

Sub max size = 2ft deep, 2.5ft tall, 1.75ft wide.

There are opening to some stairs nearby, and it opens to another very small enclosure, non listening area.(can see what i mean in pics)

(Also ignore the current speakers, they are my new NHT's, but I haven't got wallmounts yet!)

Wow that is a big room and your size requirements are not realistic IMHO.

Have you thought about a Cylinder Sub from SVS? PC2000?

IMO, a ported 12" would be the min for that size room. The older Outlaw has ties to HSU and gets you into some big bass for $300+ or less...and a half day drive. However, if you are willing to spend $400+ and can get a new 12" them go for it. Labor day is not too far away....wait for possible sales!

Why are the size requirements unrealistic? An SVS PB 1000, for example, 18.9" (H) 15" (W) 19.4" (D) - smaller than my max size. And the "big" sub, vtf2 is also just about max size.

If a ported 12 is min, then that blows up all my research! lol...since I believe all of those are 10s. The PB12 I was looking at is a 12, but it's 27inches deep, which seems a big too big.

I am definitely going to wait for labor day. That was my plan anyways to see if any SVS's had a good sale.

Yeah that's a decent deal, unfortunately that's 4hours from me. I feel like if that was a VTF2 for $250 i'd probably make the trip? Are my priorities jacked? Is a cheaper 12in really better than say a vtf2?

The cheaper $250-$300 used LFM-1 and SB-12NSD are not better than the VTF2 for overall output. However, I've yet to see the VTF2 priced lower than it is now. So if you are not prepared to pay $577 shipped then just go with the PB-1000 or Monolith 10 when they dip below $400, whenever that may happen.

Anyway, Here's another used one about 2.5 Hrs away in West Chi, a recently purchased SVS PB12-NSD for $400. Great sub at a great price. ACT FAST!
