Get one for review Mark Henninger. You said the 15" was just as good as any of the ID subs. Would like to hear your thoughts on this. I would be curious, like a lot of others, how this compares to the Rythmik FV25.

Which is very, very nice, but 16Hz let alone 12Hz are not realistic to advertise IMO. Unless there is other measurements that say differently...
-3db point is normally based of the basic response sweep taken around 80db not CEA max burst. This sub is putting out some serious numbers imo.

I wish I could do it justice, but I recently moved to an apartment and I don't see how I'd be able to push a subwoofer like that to its limit.

The M-215 is 1.7 ~ 3.5dB higher @ 20~40Hz, but 1~2dB lower above 63Hz.

It seems it's tuned to 16Hz, so it doesn't have the bottom end like the FV25HP.

I will try to get one for review as well, just like the Monolith 15"... However, this time the bar has been set much higher...
The single driver Monolith 15 also has a very similar output (100.4db) in 2 port extended mode, while much lower in 3 port mode.
Could it be possible that these initial numbers that are posted are perhaps for the 3 port mode and not the 2-port mode? If not, is it not surprising that both the single driver and the dual driver subs have almost the same output (100.4db, 100.9db resp.) at 12.5Hz?

The Monolith 15's 100.4dB @ 12Hz is 2m PEAK, which is 3dB higher than 2m RMS. The M-215's 100.9dB @ 2m is RMS. Therefore, based on the internal CEA-2010 numbers, the M-215 is +3.5dB at 12Hz.

While the Monolith 15 was variable tune (plugable, round ports) the 215 is not (single slot port). The tuning frequency is fixed. Since this is a THX sub, ULF is not the focus. My guess is that the tuning frequency is no lower than 18Hz.

Believe it or not, but many people like their gear to match. Preamp to amplifiers and sub to speakers. This sub matches nicely with the new Monolith THX Tower speakers. One can build a serious system with all Monolith components (w/HTP-1 pre-pro). I would say that the Monolith line's primary competition are Emotiva and Outlaw Audio.

18hz seems like a fairly high tuning point to have passing output @12hz 2m rms. I would think the tuning point would need to be around 16hz in order to achieve that no?

I don't think this sub, nor the other "double stacked" subs like PSA V3611 or Rythmik FV25HP are aimed at those with "average needs."

For the price of 2 of these i'd rather have 4 Monolith 15's. Better Frequency Response and higher output once they each couple and provide that extra +3db each.

That'll be the shipping weight including the palette, my TV36ipals were similar gross/net weights to these. Unpacked they're in the 210lb range. Still heavy, but a bit more manageable than 250 :P Definitely not bad to move around with furniture sliders, wouldn't want to go up stairs with them, though.

I love my dual Mono 15’s. I bought those on a great sale (2 for under $2K shipped) and will likely buy one or two of these once the deals start. Monoprice does offer deals from time to time but you have to jump on them.

Hobie if you are reading this I love what you guys are doing and feel free to hook a brother up! I promise to take pictures and videos and post my thoughts

The Monolith 15 achieves passing output in 3 port mode which is a 19Hz tune.

I'll find out the tuning point on this sub.

I put the wrong spec on the subwoofer, it's not 12Hz, it's 14Hz in extended mode. The tuning point is 17Hz. The monoprice site has been updated!

While you're here..

Do you expect this sub will get the same intermittent 20% discount as the others in the line?

One of my subs is 3" taller, 1" wider, but 5" less deep than the M-215....and I was going to get 3 lol. Btw that last pic, where can I find that build or thread on that, that's crazy awesome!

It's from the The Ultimate List of BASS in Movies w/ Frequency Charts thread posted by unretarded

https://www.avsforum.com/forum/113-s...l#post53981697

It's funny because for some people around here that was their "starter system" until they got "serious" about their A/V gear - and yes I talking about you with the self-constructed underground A/V bunker room

And my wife thought my (4) 18" subs were a bit much
