How's it going everyone? I've been on AVS for a while now and have received so much help and priceless information about AV, games, movies, installs, opinions on products, etc... from the wonderful people on this forum. There is something I have noticed with not just some people here but in other sites and online is people when describing how much low frequency their subs hit they use the word base instead of bass.
Bass= low frequency sound from a speaker, instrument, a subwoofer, a humans voice.
Base= the foot of something, a hard surface, a object you cross or step on in baseball.
What do you guys think, is this just me being weird about starting this topic or have others noticed and just said...huh. Maybe it was a type-o.

I’m with you. Every time I see that or the million other things we all learned in elementary school that folks constantly get incorrect (there/they’re/their) it always makes me think of this scene...

I thought Bass was a fish and Base was a foundation upon which something was built, which seems just about right for an HT setup... Maybe Webster needs to rethink this.

There = a place - Over there is a huge subwoofer
Their = Someone's possession - Their subwoofer is amazing
They're = "They are" - They're going to the theater to watch a movie.

You left off:

to https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/to
too https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/too
two (number 2)

its (possessive)
it's (contraction for "it is")

plus a whole lot of other homophones, homonyms,, etc. https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/homophone

I'd like to join the grammar police, but I doubt that I'd pass the entrance exam.

I have a self-imposed rule not to point out language errors, unless they're funny and pretentious.

While I have no problem with those, I want to thank you for taking the time to explain them.

Thank you.

While you explanation is simple, it will be useful. To improve my writing skill, especially for "there" and "their".

I get what everyone is saying, but since this is a "bass" sub-forum should we not expect people to get the spelling right to keep their "bass" card

[old man rant]Thank you for this. It gets exhausting reading some posts when they butcher these, along with "bass" vs. "base". And others I can't think of right now.

And WTH is up with "'s" for plural?? The apostrophe indicates possession people!![/old man rant]

I know that for my self, I always welcome anyone that would correct me in my grammar. For me learning further, about my spelling mistake. While some may take-it the wrong way, I love to improve myself

No Darth, you're good (see what I did there )

As members of these forums seem to be predominately US based (that is a guess on my part), those of us in the US and other English speaking countries read "between the lines" when need be. Those from natively non-English speaking areas need not worry, we're all here to help.

The basis of the thread, if I read it correctly, is the use of the incorrect term or incorrect spelling for those of us in North America that should know better.
