First setup, bic f12 or Dayton 1200

I’m setting up my first system and was wondering if I should get a bic or Dayton? And how much better it would sound with two vs 1 subs.
Thank you

- How large is your space (l x w x h; sealed, or open to other spaces)?
- What is your current budget?
- If you buy one now, can you afford to add another of the same later if/as required?
- Are you mostly music or HT?
- What are your "bass expectations" (sub-20Hz deep bass; chest-slamming mid-bass; both; neither).

Generally speaking:
- buy as much sub as you can afford to now, and double up later if needed;
- dual subs offer better frequency response (FR) smoothing at and across a (wide) main listening position (MLP).

Bic f12 or Dayton 1200*, room 15x20

I can afford two but it might be too much bass for the space ?
I like chest hitting bass but I’m not sure if these subs could get there ?
Atleast for now these would
Be a nice start Till I can get two svs pb2000

With 9ft ceiling, I think there’s something called phase 180 with higher end subs but not sure what that does with 2 woofers. And should I set my avr or sub LP to 60hz ?

Assuming an 8' ceiling, your space is 2,400 cu.ft. Not tiny, but not huge.

Two of either the BIC or the Dayton will not be too much bass for that space.

Personally, I'd aim for one of the following subs first and double up when additional funds become available:
- Outlaw Audio Ultra-X12 (currently on crazy-good sale for $499, shipped)
- Monoprice Monolith 10" ($499, shipped); or
- SVS PB-1000 ($499, shipped).

(SVS includes shipping and return shipping in their price so you can demo in-home risk-free.)

Just my 2¢...

Hmmmm that’s a pretty good line up, I’m getting some magenepan LRS and the dealer recommend a REL t5i which is about the same price . How would you rank that with the three others you recommended? I only know svs and not sure of mono price quality

The T/5i (8" driver, 125W (RMS) amp) is cute as hell! I would rank it nowhere near those three.

The quality of the Monoprice subs is supposed to be pretty good, and the subs themselves are well-rated, tune-able and THX Select Certified (for low distortion at reference output levels).

Would you happen to have the link to the outlaw sale price ?
Also would an hsu vtf mk5 rank higher than outlaw in your opinion ?

Here's the link: https://www.outlawaudio.com/mofcart/cmny2019.html

The VTF-2 MK5 and Ultra-X12 are very similarly-spec'd. IMO, any advantage the HSU might have over the Outlaw is marginal and isn't worth the $108 premium.

Congrats on ordering the Ultra-X12. I think you'll be WAY more satisfied with it than you would have been with either the Dayton or the BIC.

Max out / disable the LPF on the sub itself and let Audyssey take care of bass management.

With a Magnepan, you will most likely get a better integration between speaker and sub if you use a sealed sub. Rythmik L12 is a good option, as is the Outlaw (has sealed option, among others). It's always good to have sub flexibility, so you can alter the sound to suit the speakers and the room. Both these subs are flexible and would be a good choice.

EDIT: I see you have ordered the Outlaw. Congrats! Let us know how you like it.

It's a VIRTUAL channel unless stated otherwise.
