Minidsp 2 x 4 HD help..

On the advice of a lot of members here, I ordered a imik-1, minidsp 2x4 hd to help out two VTF 15H MK2's and an MBM Sub 12. My 7.2.4 Denon 6400h also has Audessey XT32... is the equipment needed before after or at all with the program?

If you use a house curve, make sure to load it after audessey. Otherwise, Audessey will attempt to flatten it out. At least that's what I do.

Do you present yours as one sub or two separate subs as one normally would without the MiniDSP?

I have no idea... i wnt have the second subs until Tuesday... currently the #1 sub is connected to the Denon sub 1 putput... and has the mbm split off it, and the #2 sub is coming from the sub port..my dsp and mic will be here sometime this week. I feel so overwhelmed. Audessey is easy enough co figure.

I have been reading information on AVSForum for about a year to help with understanding how to get the most out of my older system and help me on my upgrade path but I only joined up today because of your question. Please do yourself a huge favor and go find the YouTube channel called:

Home Theater Gurus

The guy that runs it is a member here on AVSForum (sorry I don't remember his username off the top of my head), he presents his topics step by step and provides the basics for beginners but also provides all the detail required to understand the topic at a more advanced level. For your Sub question and how to get started with multi-sub and miniDSP watch episode 8 then 7 (at the start of episode 7 he asks you to stop and watch 8 before 7). Then watch the whole series from the beginning, it contains a massive amount of good info on every topic related to home theater.

Enjoy your new gear!

I present mine as one. If you time align them in mindsp then you can show them as one.

I have found this to be a pretty confusing process too because it seems like there are several paths you can take that in the end all sound pretty good to me! Plus different people here all champion their specific method as the best or most logical approach.

In the end what I went with was using both subwoofer preouts on my AVR into both MiniDSP inputs, then MiniDSP outputs 1 and 3 to my subwoofers. Then I ran XT32. Then I adjusted the AVR trim levels from -10 to -5 and slightly bumped up the gain on my subs to make an approximately 10 dB house curve. Then I used the MiniDSP to fine-tune the sub EQ on the output side.

Would love to know if a critical error was made in my process!

By any chance would you be willing to show your results using miniDSP with Audyssey and then take miniDSP out of the system and compare to what Audyssey XT32 can do on its own?

Thanks.

I recommend watching the video while setting up REW/miniDSP/UMIK-1, and using them along with the rest of the video. But you'll need to set aside a couple hours to be safe. Great info and a huge help.

Basement bat cave: JVC RS2000 (calibrated), 100" 16:9 Stewart StudioTek 130, Denon AVR-X4400H, Oppo UDP-203, Polk RTi A7 towers/CSi A6 center/65RT in-wall side surrounds (2)/70RT in-ceiling Atmos (4), dual PSA V1811 subwoofers
