About to click buy on SVS PC-2000; One lingering question...

Is there any sub out there to be had for under $350 delivered that you would prefer to use dual rather than a single PC-2000? My budget is $700 firm (thanks honey...). My other option is to wait a year and get another PC-2000. I want duals, but my desire for quality is trumping that right now. Ive slowly upgraded my speakers and now I'm finally replacing the 8" yamaha that came with my HTB from 10 years ago. I'd love to hear your opinions before I click buy.

Buy one now and the 2nd when you have funds. IMHO, there are no good $350 each subs unless you DIY.

If you DIY, then you can get stupendous bass for your budget with multiple subs.

There isn’t much under 400 that is worth it for quality bass for HT. The closest would be the rsl speedwoofer for $399 which is a good sub but doesn’t dig deep enough for HT in my opinion. And anyway rsl is closed right now as it’s a non-essential business. On that note not sure exactly how SVS is still open. But if they are somehow exempt here in OH and able to maintain distancing then good for them and us. The PC-2000 for 699 is a good deal and an excellent sub.

I always suggest buying a good quality sub to begin with and saving for the second one rather than buying two subpar subwoofers to start out with

Agreed, get the best in your budget now, and add a second down the road if that's in the cards. You'll probably already have 100% more bass than anyone else you know.

As far as buying one SVS PC-2000 now and trying to add one more later, please be aware that the SVS PC-2000 is on closeout, having been replaced by the PC-2000 Pro.

Thank you all. There seems to be a consensus. If I cant get ahold of another warrantied PC-2000 a year from now, I guess I'll trade in for an upgrade and go dual on that!

I would suggest buying the one PC 2000 pro now instead because shipping the PC 2000 pro back to them for an upgrade will be quite cost prohibitive. I know you have a budget of $700 set by your significant other . Sometimes it is better to ask for forgiveness rather than permission. Best Buy sells the SVS PC 2000 pro. Free financing for 24 months at $40 a month. Your significant other probably spends more than that a month on coffee.

It depends on your goal. Do you just want loud bass? Then yes, dual BIC PL-200II can get plenty loud but it won't have great balance.

If you are wanting a nice, consistent (flat) response from subs that cost $350/ea or less you will need to equalize the heck out of them using a miniDSP which will drive your costs up AND require you to learn a lot of technical background in order to properly equalize those budget subs and you probably won't ever get to the desired goal anyway.

You will have no problem making your main listening position great with that PC-2000. It may take some work to have the sub be great for more than your main listening position.

I actually suspect that we're going to see the PC-2000 reappear periodically for years to come, much like how the PB12-NSD still seems to be manufactured in batches for special sales. No guarantees of course, but they've already taken this past President's Day sale to present a whole surprise inventory of 2000 series subwoofers. You might have to wait for a special sale or time of year to get that second 2000 down the line, but it might not be necessary to stress too much about it disappearing.

Alternately if you are anywhere in the driving vicinity of Baltimore, MD, drop me a line. I'm in the process of upgrading.

If you just disable/not use the "pro" features, shouldn't the PC-2000 and PC-2000 pro be the exact same output wise?

No. They have new slightly more powerful amps with more sophisticated DSP and new driver design. Also for the the PB version a new enclosure/port design. While I don't see much measurement data yet the expectation is that it will outperform the prior gen. To what extent we will have to see.

Thanks for all the feedback. For budget reasons, and the fact that no one seems to have anything negative to say about the original PC-2000, I'll forego the pro version for now and upgrade every year until I'm overwhelmed with performance. Probably when I get to dual PC-4000 Pro's about four years from now! Thanks again for all your input.

Looks like he's about 50 miles from Youngstown. I'd bet he dropped them off himself!

There was significant shipping costs. I’ll have see if I can dig up the emails tonight after kiddos in bed. Certainly more economical to trade up within trial period or buy your end game sub upfront but hard to know initially so still very glad I had the easy trade up option and fortunately cost wasn’t a deal breaker. Wish I had enough free time to take a joy ride to Youngstown but no such luck.

I would consider spending a little more to curb the upgrade bug from biting and check out the HSU VTF-3 MK5. Significant upgrade in performance over a 2000 series SVS for not a lot more money.

Downside is whether or not the budget is as fixed as is implied...

MiniDSP 2x4HD, UMIK-1, REW... The holy trinity for running multiple subs.

I think if there is any flexibility in your budget, basshead81's recommendation makes the most sense. If you are already eyeing the PC-4000s, I would just skip the PC-2000s. In the long run, I think you would end up spending less either getting the Hsu VTF-3 MK5 (or if your set on SVS the PC-4000) with a second one down the line rather than a string of upgrades. That's the advice I got from other users when I recently upgraded to my subs, which I consider my endgame type sub. There are no what-ifs and I don't have the itch to further upgrade.
