Sb4000 —> sb 16 Ultra

Going try and sneak it in this week passed the wife. Love the sb4000, but I’m a bit of a bass head and want the extra head room of the ultra. But can’t deal with the size of the PB’s. We live in a small pier and beam house so the SBs are plenty. Looking forward to dual 16s for Xmas. Wish me luck

Well wasn't able to sneak it in.. But it happened. Only plugged -played it so far. No calibration and already ive cut considerable dBs. It will need some break in time. But this is definitely where I wanted to be, now I have margin for the future. Thanks to Bjorns SA, during a pandemic!

This thread is useless without pictures!

Congrats on the upgrade. Did you sell the SB4000?

Congrats! I auditioned both subs and decided on the SB 16 Ultra. It wasn’t that much more and I couldn’t do the ported either due to the size. It is so tight and fast with music and movies! Enjoy it in good health. I LOVE this thing! Good luck getting that in past the wife. The box is huge! Lol. I have hardwood floors and I am in a townhouse so it had to come up to the 2nd floor. The sound path feet work great with the neighbors.

Can you share some more details? From their web site it appears that the PB-4000 can play 6 dB louder, although the 16 Ultra can go a few Hz lower.

I was comparing the sb4000 and the sb16ultra. The Pb models were too big for me.

I am just glad mine arrived when my wife was not home. Mine is not hidden at all. Once she got home it was already setup on the second floor and the box was gone.

Care to compare the two since you have heard them both? Was the upgrade mostly for better output at below 30hz or just to get more overhead/overall spl?

TV: TCL 6 Series 75"
Speakers: Elac B5 and C5
Sub: SVS SB-3000
AVR: Yamaha HTR-4065

For me, the switch was purely head room. Maybe I didn't give it enough 'break-in' time, but I was at 0.0dB on the receiver and -6dB on the SB4000. This was about what I needed, I just wanted some just in case room. The Ultra does feel like some one is using a 20lb sledge hammer vs 16. Ha
As far as tight bass, they both are crazy. I know I can't compare but I have 2 10" JL W3s in my truck ( sealed box) and the SVS make the JLs sound like their are in a ported box.

I agree, my 16 Ultra is the most violent speaker I have ever heard.
