It is definitely worth it and it is not difficult to learn at all and I wouldn't call the 2000 series lower end subs, they're actually quite good.

With REW you can find the best location in your room to locate your subs, measure different crossover settings and of course EQ the subs and integrate them properly. There is also plenty of help on these forums as well.

Being able to measure your subwoofers, and understand what you're hearing, then being able to EQ and dial in the right adjustments, is just as essential as room correction like audyssey. If not done right, you will have anywhere from mediocre, to passable results.
Probably the most single significant upgrade/investment you can make in a system if you care about getting the best bass possible.

It's kind of sad that my media room is small enough that I am totally content with my dual PB-1000.

No it’s not...like many of the insurance companies marketing...only pay for what you need! The most important aspect is that you’re totally satisfied with your dual PB-1000’s. If and when your room requirements change or your bass needs expands, SVS’s product line can accommodate you.

That's not sad. There's a reason SVS (or other manufacturers) offer a line of products to suit everyone's various needs whether it's room size or budget etc.

I recently downloaded 5.2 from that site on both my Macbook and my windows pc. I didn't have any problems. The site is legit. The maker of REW even responds to me on that site.

Nope. That’s it. John is the author of REW. Home theater shack used to be the host site but it got sold and went down a long spiral. AV Nirvana is a bunch of the old crew.

Got the email from SVS too about the Memorial Day sale.

Went through some of the photos of the Subs on sale. EEK! Although I agree those are great prices for great subs, some of the blemishes on those subs are cringe worthy. Who the heck is handling those subs to do such damage on the beautiful Piano Gloss finish?

If you don't care much about the finish or you plan to have your subs hiden, then this might be a great deal for you.

Their wording is "up to 40%". So they may not be marking everything down 40% in their outlet.

Dual SVS subs

Hi,

I currently have an SVS NSD PB12 subwoofer, this thing is huge, and I love it, it's currently placed in the left corner of the room. I would like to look into going dual subs, but the only place for an additional sub would be in the rear right corner. There isnt room for another Giant sub, I wanted to see how it would be if the I added the PC-2000 tube subwoofer to pair with the NSD. Anything I'd have to worry about, would there be a difference in sound? It's a fairly small room, never thought I need a second sub, but it seems like dual is the way to go.

Thanks

Another of our ported in that general performance range will be fine with your PB12-NSD, sure, PC-2000 is a nice choice.

Got myself an SB2000 Pro to compliment my Prime Towers and Center. I find them to be a surprisingly nice step up from my Polk 505 sub and Monitor 70 towers. The center channel in particular, is so much better than my boxy Polk CS2 center. Although I am keeping my Polk MC80 ceilings for my surround.

One of the things I am having trouble with is dialing in the sub’s volume. I read SVS recommends starting at -10db, which gives me a setting of -3.5db on the AVR after I run YPAO. This is way too sub dominant for my 15x15ish room. Sadly, I can’t find much else about sub volume on the Pros, only the old knob models - which most said to start at 12 o’clock. This would be the halfway point, which I would assume to be -30db on the Pro model (range is -60db to 0db).

I have a Umik, so I eventually intend to get everything perfect with REW once I have the time to learn the process. But for now, I am relying on YPAO. Any thoughts?

Your sub volume appears good since you don't want to increase the sub output at this time.

Do you know if you are using the YPAO flat curve setting? If not, which one are you using?

If you just want to turn the sub down a bit, go into the level settings area in the Yamaha AVR and turn the sub level down there. Decrease it until you are happy with the output.

What settings are you using for speaker size and crossovers?

Front: Polk S55
Center: Polk S30
Rear: Polk S10
Sub: P̶L̶-̶2̶0̶0̶I̶I̶ | (̶2̶)̶ ̶F̶V̶X̶1̶2̶ | V1812
AVR: Denon AVR-X3500H

Your sub volume appears good since you don't want to increase the sub output at this time.

Do you know if you are using the YPAO flat curve setting? If not, which one are you using?

If you just want to turn the sub down a bit, go into the level settings area in the Yamaha AVR and turn the sub level down there. Decrease it until you are happy with the output.

What settings are you using for speaker size and crossovers?

Small at 60hz, even though YPAO sets them to large. And I use the flat curve.

So you don’t think I should drop the volume and run YPAO again? Just lower the sub on the AVR?

That is what I would do. The general advice of adjusting your sub gain/volume such that YPAO sets it to -9dB is so that you have plenty of headroom to turn up the subs. That isn't an issue for you. I wouldn't re-run YPAO but that is just me.

I reran it a few times because I was curious. Turning the sub down to -20 or -30 puts the AVR in the + db range, which I believe means the sub is too low. Going back to -10db and rerunning YPAO this time gave me -5.0db instead of -3.5db. Strange, but YPAO is always weird like that. Distance usually measures the same consistently but levels always differ, albeit usually by no more than half a db or so.

Anyway, I think it’ll do for now. Or at least until a take time to learn how to use REW. They have a good walk thru, but it seems catered more for Windows than the Mac users. Kind of intimidating.

Question Need advise

I have a relatively smallish dedicated theater in my basement with dimensions: 11' x 22' x 9'
Currently have 1 SVS PB1000 in front corner and rest of the speakers (7.4) are in walls, with the front 3 being the def tech UIW RLS II and the surround and ceiling are basic polk stuff.

I am tempted to upgrade my sub and was planning to get either a PB12-NSD from outlet for $450, or if possible another PB1000 for $350, or upgrade PB1000 to a single PB2000 (or even possibly add a PB2000).
Given my room dimensions (which is completely closed when the doors are shut, which they are mostly. Will dual PB1000 be better or single PB2000? Alternatively, is it ok to mix PB12 and PB1000, or PB2000 and PB1000. Which combination is better? Looking for better bang for buck.

thank you

As someone else who is currently on their own journey trying to determine what I "need" in my space, I think it is easier to figure it out getting the largest single sub you can afford to get you where you want. Then you get the 2nd down the road to improve headroom and even the response for multiple seats. It is really hard, IMO, to try and figure out how to optimize your room AND determine how much sub you need. You may be unsure whether you are feeling underwhelmed because the subs are just too small or they are not phase aligning as well as they could be.

In my situation, I spent hours upon hours trying to get dual subs dialed in because I thought I was not getting everything out of the subs I could. I eventually realized I needed more sub to get what I am looking for. Now I'm in the process of trying to find a single sub that can get me where I want to be with regards volume at MLP and I'll worry about getting a 2nd and improving the rest of the room at a later date. I am merely wandering blindly until I find the volume level I'm satisfied with.

I would advise against mixing and matching subwoofers for a variety of reasons.

As badtlc also suggested above, it's also hard to figure out what you want or need. The combination of not knowing what you don't know vs each subwoofer acting differently in each room and with each movie

Personally, I prefer getting the single best subwoofer I can budget and afford at the time...and optimize that placement in the room and integration with everything else. You can either play the upgrade game one at a time or get to a point where you're happy with the impact and you can then balance/smooth it out with a second subwoofer of the same kind. But that would depend if you have nasty nulls and if a single sub can even get you the impact you want. I guess I'm saying I wouldn't necessarily go for multiple budget subs over a single much better sub. There's a line

That's just how I would do it, and I in no way saying that's better for you If I had $1k budget, I'd rather get a $1k subwoofer instead of 2x$500...and then at my next disposable income budget, I'll add another $1k subwoofer down the road.
