Worked with Jeff and John and got a replacement amp. On hind sight, i should have just got a new sub, but it was a good learning experience.

I was wondering what I could adjust in my PB12 Plus' DSP settings to get a little more mid-bass punch out of it. I haven't ever messed with anything other than gain setting during calibration, but I assumed (I know. I know...) that there might be a way to adjust the frequencies/EQ to achieve this.

Here's some info on my room and 5.1 setup:

I have the sub corner loaded in the right corner of my room (limited on placement options). I have a 5 ft. wide opening on the left wall towards the front of the room that leads to my kitchen. I also have a hallway opening in the left rear corner on the back wall, and my LP is about 11 ft. from the speakers/sub.

I have the sub running all ports open & set for LFE with the gain set at -6 and the AVR's trim set at -7. My Speaker XO's are set at 80hz for LCR, and 100hz for surrounds. With these settings, I get some pretty awesome LFE...but it still seems to be lacking some mid-bass. Especially when listening to music (2.1).

Room size is 2160^ft. and equipment is listed in sig.

Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Darrell

Well it looks like the the 12 Plus series is now completely discontinued. First the PC12+ and now the PB12+. RIP. Wonder how long till we see or if we see a 3000 series.

Hi, I've just picked up an ex demo PC-2000 from a reputable dealer in the UK, I'm very happy with it but whilst tidying up some cabling in a skirting I was close to the sub and noticed a slight noise like a quiet fan or very low hum, this is with power on and blue light but no audio input.
Is this normal for these ?. I can't hear it unless I put my head quite close to the rear of the cylinder.

Thanks.

Try this for more punch on music:

PEQ1: 63 Hz, Q 2.0, +2 dB
PEQ2: 63 Hz, Q 2.4, +2 dB

It would work on any subwoofer, but on PB12-Plus you are limited with PEQ to only these frequencies: 31, 40, 50, 63, 80, 100, and 125Hz.

On SB16-Ultra you have higher flexibility.

Thank you Ed. It did make a noticable difference...especially on the movie side of things. That's where I get most of my enjoyment out of it anyway, so definitely a big + there.

It's already built into the factory music preset.

I didn’t realize that the factory music and movie presets were more than just pre-named presets to customize as we like. Does this apply to the pc-4000 as well? What are the actual differences? Thanks.

The music preset for the 16-Ultra and 4000-series is the same for every model.

The PEQs for the factory music preset are only a suggestion - the user can create a custom music preset and save it over the factory preset (or save it as a custom preset).

I didn't pay attention whether there were some predefined settings when I started the app for the first time. None of the modes was active, so I started with measurements and saved my settings as Music preset.

What are the default PEQ values for Music mode?
I wouldn't like to reset my settings just to see them, but I'm curious

This shows me I know zero about the settings in my PB-13 Ultra. Ed walked me thru some basic setting to match what my AVR settings (cross over at 80) so when I plug in my NAD stereo rig for my TT and R2R I don't have to adjust the DSP. I still do not understand the "Q" setting and what the the different octave settings are for.

I've been so happy with the performance of my SB 16 Ultra's that I've never really taken the time to try out some of the available settings. I also have REW and a mic that I bought 6 months ago that I haven't even unboxed yet. I really need to set aside some time to try things out a bit but thus far I've just been enjoying things rather then tinker.

I see my confusion about presets now. I had only looked at Movie in the past which does not have any PEQ enabled but now I see the Music preset does have a boost centered at 63hz.

Hi,

I would say that it is not normal behavior for the subwoofer to hum (or rumble at low volume) unless you have a very long RCA cable run--say in excess of about 40'. As for the subwoofer not going into Standy Mode, that is definitely a glitch. If I were you I would contact Ed Mullen at SVS, who may already see these two posts, and ask his opinion of the situation. Then armed with the information he gives you, you can decide how you would like to approach things with your dealer in the UK.

Good luck with this and let us know how things turn out.

Regards,
Mike

Thanks, I have contacted svs via email and had a reply asking me to capture the sound and send it to them, I asked if there was a specific iPad or android app that was useful for this but was told no so I will try the stock iPad video recorder tomorrow.i think my RCA cable is 5m in length.

Thanks.

Finally got my AT screen done and fired up the dual PC13's for the first time. I'm breaking the rules and using these in the front 2 corners. Why? Cause they look best there lol. I bought a 2nd one mainly so the room would look symmetrical. Anyways, I just learned from experience about subs cancelling each other out. What a crazy phenomenon. When I had just one sub it always sounded equally as good in either front corner so I figured one in each corner should be great.

At first it sounded awful! It's kinda neat how you can turn one sub off and get more base, then fire the 2nd one up and base drops by ALOT! Through some manual tweaking I learned that if I set one of the subs to 180 degrees phase they both sound awesome together. My room is a dedicated room thats rectangular. My low end base really can pressurize the room now and there is no more localization of the sound that I had before.

Anyways, I'm pretty happy and I learned somethin! Vibrations can crash into eachother and just stop!

That actually made me laugh!

Question for everyone. I've been thinking about this. Am I correct in my thinking? Is this normal what I experienced? Cause now I'm wondering if the 2nd sub isn't wired up backwards. Could that be the issue and by changing the phase made them work the way they should? I don't really wanna take it apart to check.

Well, the BASH amp in my 20-39PCi that I bought from the original "SV Subwoofers LLC" (I just looked for and still have my original confirmation email) back in April of 2002 is still going strong.

So I would say no worries if the sub is in good condition.

LG OLED55C6P, Panasonic UB-820, Sony UBP-X800, Zidoo X9S, Denon AVR-X3400H, vintage Carver M1.0T amp, Axiom M60v3 Mains & VP100 Center, Original SVS 20-39pci Cylinder sub, Phase Tech Surrounds & 2 Polk RC60i Atmos. Desktop system: Fully restored (by me) vintage Marantz 2275 stereo receiver from 1976 driving a pair of Axiom M2v3's, BIC 10" Sub.

As Ed pointed out this is the same PEQ that's pre-programmed in the Music preset of the 4000 and 16 series. I'm going to experiment but along the lines of your experience I do wonder how this will do for movies as well. As has often been discussed SVS tends to excel at the very low end with some trade off on the mid bass compared to some other manufacturers. Maybe this PEQ setting would also be useful for movies to add a little extra chest slam. Will have to play with it on my PC-4000s. So easy with the app. Any recommended chest slam movie scenes to help A/B settings?

Hello guys
I have a older 12” ported svs sub and I need a new driver. The old one got cut by a cat. Before I got it!
Also I don’t think it’s the right driver anyway
I’m all about buying used as I’m disabled and funds are tight for my audio addiction. Lol
Thanks
As you can see it’s pretty bad. I did glue it back and it’s been working but not to my liking. Plus I don’t think it’s the right driver in the first place
