It's no big surprise with the promotion they are offering now.

The total Amazon.com cost for the HD-A2 with three HD-DVD (combo) movies of your choice is $210.93 shipped. If you subtract out the value of the three HD-DVD (combo) movies of your choice, the price of the HD-A2 is ~$127. If you value the five free HD-DVDs by mail at $15 each, the HD-A2 is about $50.

You see this price at checkout.

Who wouldn't buy a HD-DVD player for $50?

That comes later after Paramount sells out of BR discs and these players make it to their owners. Give it a few weeks.

For fun, I checked where Panasonic's BR player ranks in electronics. Not even close to the top 1000. I think they have sold 4.

I am not sure what I am missing out on? The last time I looked at the lists of titles on either format I was very disappointed.

The free discs from either format are very poor movies that I would not even like to watch one time.

Waiting patiently for hardware to become less expensive and for title lists to grow is not a bad thing. When there is one format I will buy, and all of these discs will still be available, likely for even lower prices.

Wow, the worst selling HD DVD player (XA2) is ranked 271 and the best selling BR player (Sony) is ranked 791.

(yes, I know I did not include the PS3 or the 360 add-on).

The free discs are really bad, but I sold mine on ebay for $100. That made my A2 about $100. Not bad.

While Amazon.com is big, Costco is probably going to be the key retailer in determining the format winner.

Wow, top 10, 25 and 50, HD DVD has caught up or passed Blu-Ray. That must be because of Blades of Glory. That Paramount deal is starting to pay off.

Casablanca a poor movie, Blazing Saddles a poor movie?? you sir ARE missing out. And $200 is TOO expensive for you? There is really no reason for you to even submit to a site like AVS then, if 5 free movies and a player for $200 is too much what hope is there for you.. less expensive.

For someone not interested in buying either format right now, you sure spend a lot of time here.

Sure - to save money. Like No Ethernet Port on the S300. So which is more important?

HINT: No BD LIVE without Ethernet Port

Give it a rest already. Seriously the constant tit for tat between a certain number of you has become tiresome.

Regardless of what it has and doesn't, it's selling. Perhaps 90% of them are being sold to J6P who most likely doesn't own a top of the line system to use Digital Coaxial. Or maybe, just maybe, they don't give a hoot.

Why is it that I've read so many posts about people waiting... and waiting... and waiting for their free HD-DVD discs? As in months.

Wow. I ask a simple question and get attacked and tried to be divered to a missing feature on the BD player. Talk about being on the defensive.

btw:
Digital Coaxial is NOT state of the art. It's a common input on the majority of receiver amps sold.
*sheesh*

Because it has an optical connection.............also known as "toslink" - the 1st part of that is because?

Haven't seen a receiver in quite some time that has more coax connections than optical. I prefer the coax, but it would seem optical has the upper hand.

It's just my opinion & it's worth exactly what you paid for it.
