I'm running plain OS X. Anyone here do that?
I use my mac basically just with the logitech keyboard and from netflix to you name it I use it like a desktop if I were sitting at it. Do you find those front ends are only good if you're looking at content stored? I pay for spotify, couldn't live without it, and have wondered why bother with a front end.
On another note what's the best media player for .mkv and what not. Which gives the best flexibility? I use VLC but has it's hiccups. The latest version doesn't seem to like using the EQ while in HDMI encoded mode. Any other mode and I don't hear their voices. I'm running the mini through my receiver to a 3.1 setup. Best media setup I've ever had.
Is there a media player that has great post processing or something I should try that plays it all and has a little magic button that makes things more amazing?
oh and BTW I'm using a 2014 Mac mini. The lowest end model with 4GB of memory and 1.4ghz dual core i5. I'm currently on Maverick. It runs flawlessly, has zero chop, and i honestly use it for everything I use my i7 8GB macbook for and see zero speed difference. I'm really starting to care very little about specs out there. This thing runs 4k and everything else buttery smooth with no lag for startup or anything else. I use to build a lot of systems when I was younger so not having the absolute best has bothered me but damn if I just can't find anything wrong with this unit (wrong as in it would be worth getting a higher end mac mini).
