Is this any good?

I know the Roku stick is not removable which sucks since I personally don't like the Roku system at all. And it permanently occupies an hdmi port too.

I got one... It's actually insanely good for the money. You can remove the Roku stick, just gotta unscrew the protective cover. It has 4 HDMI 2.0, HDCP 2.2 ports with a 10-bit panel. It's frame/bezel is very elegant and with some calibration the picture is nice! I think it's a true 120Hz panel as well, the motion control on low is smooth without SOE. I'm very happy with it and now I can add an nVidia Shield for $200 and still be at only $1000!

Easily removed, just gotta unscrew the protective cover over it.

ON Corp (Korea) owns the brand name and this one is made in China so I'm pretty sure it's really a TCL... It looks like an expensive TV with a very elegant design and it's incredible for the money... I picked one up to try and with 4 - HDMI 2.0 with HDCP 2.2 on a 10-bit panel I'm so impressed I'm selling off my solid 60" Sony 1080p... Now I'm just going to add an nVidia Shield for $200 and I'm still at $200 less than the crappy cheap LG's Fry's has for $1200.

edit :

Since frys didn't have a display model,iI bought one to test. Used it for 24 hours and it's back in the box for return tomorrow.

Quality is pretty bad

4-HDMI 2.0, HDCP 2.2 and 120Hz 10-bit panel... that' 90% of what even the highest videophile needs right there... my first one did have a weird screen defect at the viewing angle I sit at the most so I got a second and kept it... The problem is this model is barely even acknowledge as existing by RCA, the model number doesn't even pull up online. AND you can't disable the freaking TV speakers when using the coax digital audio out so I'm forced to only use my sonudbar remote for volume. This totally sucks but it's time I get a Harmony remote anyway. It's obvious ON Corp rushed this TV out in January to try to hit the cheap 4K market and is now dumping them cheaply. The screen has some dust under it and streaks of what looks like panel wash running vertically... BUT this is just going to be too much fun with 4K, the picture quality is actually good once you do a bit of basic calibration. The scaling is surprisingly good and has a true 120Hz panel handling 24Hz film input well.

if mine had a defect then that would explain the horrible quality. sitting directly in front of the tv had the worst picture. no contrast. and anything even remotely close to black was pitch black. it literally was unwatchable. the vertical bands running across the screen, the splotchy bright areas of the screen. the overly bright screen etc.

i took it back and the salesperson who helped me said "see , i told you" he had told me not to buy the rca lol

What helped me was going through the presets... discovered "dynamic" mode had brightness at 40 and contrast at 60 and that brought that black levels in line... so I fine tuned from there on "User" setting and came up with 40 brightness, 52 contrast and color 38, it definitely has WAY too much brightness and color by default. I also use "Graphic" video style with "dot by dot" enabled, MFC on low and we really enjoy it. I'm actually surprised how good the scaling and motion is! With those settings the picture is actually very good... totally understandable if people don't want to take the time to tweak it, especially when one notch in the settings would sometimes make huge leaps and sometimes little difference... For the clouding ("Splotchy bright areas") I first had to get brightness down to 40 and then I did the old rub down firmly with a microfiber cloth trick... after a few days of viewing I only have very minor clouding in the corners much like almost any LED will have... But ya, too much vertical banding would ruin it for me too, I wonder if that was a product of being so out of tune out of the box or if it was a major defect? I do notice "some" on very white/snow/ice backgrounds with horizontal motion but it's acceptable. This I chalk up to the "dirty inner screen wash" I mentioned earlier but at least I can tell it's not in the actual panel motion like I have seen in other cheap TV's. In the meantime I think I easily have a better picture than the cheapest LG that Fry's does for $1200... To fix the speakers always being on I had to plug in a 3.5mm audio cable and tape off the other end! LOL!

Anyway, good luck with finding a budget 4K, despite the drawbacks, I'm happy with mine... for now.

the first thing i do when calibrating a tv is pull up the typical calibration images for contrast, blacks, color etc.

i ran my calibrations about 4 times with slightly different tweaks.

this is the first tv ive ever bought that was "uncalibratable" and unwatchable.

i must have got a defective one
