I just bought another yesterday for 199.00 on Amazon. That is a steal for what this amplifier is capable of. I use these amps to drive speakers in commercial venues fed by my Touchtune Juke boxes. Much more reliable then Behringer's.

Pulled the trigger for following reasons

1. No signal processing ie no Hi filter, low filter or band filter, I also have an Crown XLS with processing both sound great not sure there is a big difference

2. Price $199

Issues this is a A/B amp my first so far the sound is very good no sound issues

Fan I run the amp 24 hours a day for two weeks, the fans have never turned on

Personal opinion I think the Crown amps sound best when you have an external DAC, mine is a SMSL SU8 ($200) via XLR to Crown sound stage is deep and wide with this DAC. The same Amp going thru my Marantz 7011 only (no external DAC), does not have the same sound stage.

Currently looking at the new Topping D90 DAC

For the Crown doubters for $200 give it a try Amazon will let you return it, you might really be surprised don't worry about fan noise that is an old unit issue

Funny you mention that @basshead81. I have an NX3000D, and the fan noise is horrible. Then yesterday I was looking at some Crown amps thinking how simple they are. I got the NX3D for the DSP part, but it is not working out for me at this time, and since I am still in my return window, this is 1/2 the price!!

You could always do a fan swap on the NX3000D. It essentially makes it silent like the Crown's.

Well after some thought I ordered another XLi 1500. At 200 I just can't pass it up. I actually do have a project in the future where it will be needed so might as well save some money ahead of time.

I saw the other thread about that @sealmaniac . I am a novice, but will read p on it some more. I am frustrated with the NX3D right now, trying to get 3 subs working together. If I do not get them shortly, then I will send back, and get the crown for half the price.

The fan swap for all the NX series amps is really easy and in my opinion completely necessary if the amp is in the same room you are! However something to consider is that it will void your warranty.

Another thing to consider is the loss of driving straight 2 ohm loads and also 4 ohm when bridged that the NX3000D can do as opposed to the XLi series which will not do either of those.

With the savings on the XLi 1500 right now you could pick up a MiniDsp to go with the XLi which will actually cost more than the NX3000D but will add some flexibility along with other benefits.

IMO both the use of the DSP on the NX3000D and the MIniDsp are not what I would call noob friendly. For that matter setting up 3 subs to work together correctly is not noob friendly either. I consider myself a noob with both of those things as well many others!

Both the DSP part of the NX amps and the MiniDsp have massive amounts of info here on AVS and countless awesome people willing to help as well. However you must have the willingness to spend lots of HOURS tinkering with either of them to reap the benefits.

Cheers!

Well said @sealmaniac, and thanks for chiming in! I will spend a few more hours today I am sure running options in the NX3D. Stay safe and warm, as I am in Iowa, and the snow just keeps coming.....

I can't believe that there are still Crown doubters. Outstanding, clean, excellent priced amplification for the most demanding speakers. I wish they made a 3-channel version.

Aside from the fan swap, Behringer's reliability is suspect at best. I have had 3-4 fail under warranty and 1 just outside. I had 2 NU6000's bad right out of the box. I have 10-12 crowns all still going strong...some are older 202 models that are 12+ yrs old... These amps get pushed hard for hours on end. Behringer might be ok for home use but for commercial use they seem to be iffy...I won't buy another as long as I can get the XLi 800 or 1500 for around 200.00. Insanely cheap amplification for the performance and reliability.

Picked up one today for right/left duty. 199.00 @ amazon. Should have bought two, but only could use one more channel so I decided to see how the AVR handles the center.

How do these compare to the XLS Drivecore 2 line of amps?

I'm not too familliar with those. What drove me to the Crown XLI is its bare bones nature. No HPF/LPF or processing. Just amplification. Price is attractive too. I was just looking at Emotiva 3 channel amps and a side from looks I can't imagine where the extra money goes. I can buy 4 XLI 1500s for the price of one Emo.

Just looked at Amazon and it appears that they are out of the "ships by Amazon" stock. There were 2 third party sellers that still have them at the 199.00 price.
A quick internet search show just a few noname places still selling at the 199.00 price as well.

Looks like this deal is about dead unless you don't mind dealing with 3rd party sellers.

Ordered a second for my middle channel. Really want that monolith or emotiva 3 channel Amp but no matter how hard I try to justify it I just can't.

The power to dollar ratio on these xli amps is outstanding.

I hope the lesser specs of the xli are not noticeable.

I have mine connected to my rear surround channels which are DIYSG HTM6's.
Completely overkill power wise but I like the fact that the amp will be loafing along all the time regardless of what volume I am listening to.

I just did a really quick check with some music and the HTM6's sounded great at near reference level. I played my front 2 HTM12's (running on a XPA-5 2nd gen) then switched to the HTM6's and other than a slight tonal difference due most likely to the 6in vs 12in woofer it sounded nearly identical.

As a side note I am using an Amazon Smart Plug to connect the amp to the wall which promotes my laziness since I don't have to get up and turn on the XLi now!
The price on the Amazon plug is IMO way too high though at retail pricing. Thankfully I got mine during X-mas sales for 5.00 each!

Great idea on the smart plugs. I have a couple trigger boxes I built for my last room. I plan to use one for these amps.

I was comparing specs of the Xpa and monolith to the crown. Probably only a difference I will see.... But never hear.
