The Best Bookshelf Speakers Over $1000

The Best Bookshelf Speakers Over $1000

With this latest Best Bookshelf Speakers list, we encroach upon a price point that is not for the faint of heart. These are my picks, from experience, for some of the best bookshelf speakers over $1000.

Now, this list might get a little crazy, but let’s have some fun with it, shall we? Still, I’ll keep the selections within reason—just remember that most of these high performance bookshelf models cost as much as a good set of tower speakers.

Joseph Audio Pulsars. You'd have to "kill me" to take my pair of these beauties off of my hands. They really sound that good.
Garman and prerich like this.

Oh hey I reviewed those, indeed very good speakers. Aesthetically maybe a bit tougher to swallow than some others, and by design they really need to be paired with a sub because they do not extend as deep. Not sure if Steve's heard a pair or not.

The Fyssion 4" full ranges...

Commonly known as a Mark Audio Alpair full range... $85 each for the drivers and they sound good (if you like that sort of sound)

https://www.madisoundspeakerstore.co...-4-full-range/

Blowing over $1,300 for two boxes? As you would say WTF... I know I would say it! The good thing about Mark Audio drivers is they include various designs and full T/S specs to model whatever grabs your interest.

A very gushy bit of fluff piece... the new direction of AVS?

Todd Anderson formerly of Home Theater Shack (before he left for/to start AVNirvana) published a review of those a couple years back, including some charts. https://www.hometheatershack.com/for...er-review.html

Yes I have actually. I do like them a lot but definitely not the most aesthetic speaker and yes they do need a sub. If they ever decide to make custom finishes they will make a HUGE impact. Not a big wife acceptance factor.

I stand by the speaker as Todd did. I enjoyed them very much. His review is spot on.

Haha, yea. You should have seen my wife when she came home to see that I had bought a pair of the 210t towers and 210c center channel. I don’t follow speakers much- does anyone make a larger center channel? Does take a bit to get used to.

Well the title of the thread throws you, as you could go way over $1000! I would title it Best Bookshelf (Monitor Speaker) for around $1000. I would Mention Dynaudio, Special 40s, or Contour 20s.... and they just came out with the Confidence 20.. 3K, 5K and a whopping 12K... Now since this is all opinion based I do like Joseph Audio as well, had a pair of RM7si which were stellar. KEF 350, not bad either, along with a much better value than the KEF Reference 1 which I loved, is the LS50's.

I really want to hear those Monitor Audio Studios, I've heard a lot of great things about them.

The list really needs the new Revel M126bes, pricey, but absolutely incredible speakers, they held their own against TADs costing 3x as much IMO.

Does Polk even make their LSiM series of speaker anymore? Certainly the LSiM series of tower, centre, bookshelf, and surround speakers no longer appear on their website. Seems somewhat pointless to include them in the article if they aren't being made anymore and stock is rapidly dwindling.

They really are phenomenal with that Torrent driver! But they should be for their cost..... I have listened to these speakers with several music genres and they are really sweet, did them all justice.

I hope I do not get in trouble for this.

I know this is your list but why is there such a disconnect between the reviewer for this forum and regular members for this form. As a long time member I see time and time again the same speakers being recommended over and over again on this forum. To the point where this form is known for backing or pushing some speakers. Now I'm not big on pushing speakers just because but I would think that the paid people on here would at least put up some money and review some of the most talked about speakers on here so that we can have some real backup. I see regular users here go out of their way to “buy” multiple speakers and test them at home and even post measurements. This is a big reason why I’m here real users buying real speakers using them.

Posts like this get a lot of views and are very beneficial to many people and are the reasons I keep coming back here.

We even have a small company that will go out of their way to do a road show to reach out to members of this forum and get speakers to people so that they can listen and write a review on this forum.

And last, this speaker has been out since 2014 and has been recommended like crazy on this forum. How is it only now on your list?

Rant over.
I guess the short version is the list you provide is not different than any other list if you do a quick google search. I guess I just want to see an AVSFourm list with speakers that we talk about because so many of us listened to them and recommend them. I would just like some Professional backup.

Spoiler!

Kinda surprised The LS50 and Revel M105 aren't part of the list, the reference 1 are amazing but they're quite a bit above 1k. The LSIM 703 definitely belong on the list though, a lot of people dismiss them but nothing I've heard in the past 2 years puts them to shame and I have LS50's and was part of the BMR road show this summer so I know good sound.

I am actually using a LSiM 703 as a center channel with 705s for right and left front duty, with identical tweeters and midrange all at ear level. The front soundstage is very seamless. Nothing to be ashamed of with the LSiM series.

Ok guys on noted and thanks for the feed back. As I stated I cant put every speaker on the list. There has to be a line someplace with how many speakers one can put on the list. I'm sure the list wasn't going to please every one. These are my opinions and I almost guarantee they will differ from everyone's. Like I said the beautiful thing about audio is everyone hears different. Graphs or not sound demos or not. Everyone has what they like and a $8000 pair of speakers to one person might suck because they are in love with the $300 pair. I hope this sheds a little light on why I cant put everything on the list. Plus I cant listen to every speaker. Not enough time in the day and my wife and 2 kids would kill me ha.

Here they are: link to Polk's website page for LSiM speakers

Take a closer look at the page. Do you see any pictures of the LSiM series under the captions "Floor-Standing Towers" or "Center Channel, Bookshelf & Surround Speakers" on the Polk site? There used to be pictures of them in both the midnight mahogany and cherry finishes. Clicking on the picture of the speaker would take you to specs for the speakers, downloads for the speaker manuals, etc. Just like it still does for the in-wall and in-ceiling speakers still shown on that page.
If you check online for those speakers available for sale, at best most sites will list only one speaker available of a particular model, if any. It been like that for at least a year.

Note: Apparently I can't quote a post that contains a link in a reply yet.

Yes, I see photos and links for them listed under all of those... They are listed as on backorder, so perhaps Polk hasn't produced a run of them in a bit though.

I'd have to agree. The signs... point to a line refresh at CES 2019, or at some other point in 2019. I can honestly say I have no info. one way or the other, but given how Definitive Technology is done with its BP 9000 series and Demand series refreshes, and also the Signature series at Polk got refreshed, that's the logical next step.

Still a valid suggestion if you can buy 'em though, IMO.

None of the ID direct only speakers that are a favorite of so many forum members who frequent the speaker threads? I realize most don't buy advertising, but still its disappointing not to see at least a few on your list. Salk, Ascend, Philharmonic, Selah to name just a few. Plus some of our ID direct speaker makers are known for offering 30 day listening trials which makes them easy to test, Dennis had his BMRs going around the country to various forum members who wanted to give them a listen, no charge.

There is no perfect display, quit looking for faults and enjoy

LG OLED 65” B7 and 55” C8
Ascend's with RAAL, Love my PSA v1800 and a 7.2.4 speaker config, Oppo 203 and other stuff

Yes, they still make them. I had the same question and contacted Polk CS. Adorama is their main focal point for sales. All speakers go there first according to the email exchange I had. Also, another thing to consider is the "trade war" with China and how that will affect delivery and possibly pricing outside of normal inflation. I can see a number of manufacturers cutting corners to maintain a margin. A perfect example of the cost of inflation is Toberone -- they could make the bar smaller while retaining exactly the same gaps or they could keep the bar the same length by widening the gaps. The picture illustrates their decision.
