Any reasons to buy this instead of X4400? Looks like same specs.

They are very similar but the 7012 has Marantz's HDAM pre-amps.....much better for 2 channel listening is the consensus on those. I got one of these around the end of the year at $1100 and thought it was a steal after listening. I probably go about 60/40 movies/music, but am thrilled with how this thing performs in 2 (well 2.1) channel playback with high quality music sources. Very good for an AVR at least. :0)

Ridiculously good deal on the SR7012. I bought the SR7010 from Magnolia for $800 open box and I haven’t regretted it. The movie audio and 2 channel audio quality are superb and unlike the previous Onkyo that I owned, it has been extremely reliable.

The SR7012 has the same amps as the SR7010 so the excellent audio quality should still be intact.

i've been trying to figure that out myself... it looks like there is about a $150-$175 difference on amazon, depending on taxes.

3-year warranty on the marantz, two years on the x4400?

i believe that the 7012 has a class d amp, vs. ab amp on the x4400, if that matters... the marantz also has a couple of rather obscure features that the denon doesn't.

I'm 99% sure D&M is not using class d amps in any of these receivers.

Pioneer was and now after the merger there are some Onkyo models that do as well.

the denon definitely isn't class d, it's known for running hot.

the comparison data of power usage that i saw didn't indicate a class d advantage for the 7012, but there is this:

https://www.avnirvana.com/threads/ma...age-2#comments

https://helptochoose.com/compare-av-...012-vs-sr-6011

EDIT: o.k., looks like they both have 710w power consumption figures, which doesn't indicate class d.

SR7012 has Auro-3D included - and as an ex-owner I can vouch for how good music is when upmixed to Auro-3d.

i was looking at the 7012 specifically for auro-3d, but it looks like denon is now including that with the x4400h... the denon also has bass sync, contrary to the comparison link that i posted above: http://manuals.denon.com/AVRX4400H/E...SYvsbphziy.php

so what is different about these receivers??

The 7012 and x4400 are pretty much identical

The HDAM op amps are only on the preouts. I would be skeptical of any benefits

The only real difference is the analog inputs on the 7012

The 7012 was $3300USD in Australia when I bought mine but I purchased it from the Netherlands for $1350USD (including shipping)

So $999USD is an absolute bargain

What features were added to the SR7013 vs the 7012? This is a good deal and one I'm considering for my basement media space for 5.2.4.

That's not accurate on the HDAM pre-amps. They are used to condition any analog signal the amp produces prior to high-gain amplification. This would mean any D/A conversion you allow the AVR to perform would pass through these. I allow it to convert everything I source digitally so for me this is quite impactful.

Edit to add: yes, preouts also are through this path, the function of pre-amps are to condition analog signals and to amp up to line level. Just stating that this is also necessary for the internal high-gain stages as well

SR7012 for $1000 seems like a great deal. Does anyone know if the 7012 supports 4K Apple TV with Dolby Vision. Thanks

The Marantz 7000 series have supported Dolby Vision on Apple TV (and other sources) since the 7010. You should be good to go.

Are either of them still exhibiting issues with HDR pass-through in 4K from devices such as AppleTv 4K, PS4, Xbox, etc? I see old posts here and there and can't figure out if has all been resolved.

Sounds like Web Control is like a remote app but for your pc or tablet using a web browser.

Hi Everyone !

That's a very good bargain for triple 9 bucks, i have a few questions if someone can help :

Introduction :

I have a Denon x1300, running a 5.1.2 Atmos ( i recently switched my 7.1 to 5.1.2 because the couch is stuck to the wall so i wasn't getting much from my backsurrounds), i'm stil experimenting with the front heights, as many suggested i don't hear night a day difference, but there are a lot of imperfections :

1- i feel my surround speakers are more powerful, and they outhide the front heights, i played with the levels, also set 4 of em to small, then large and different crossovers, i can definitely hear the Front Atmos effects, it's just not as good as i imagined. It might also be that 5.1.4 is way better than 2 Frontjheights. anyway i'm still experimenting, and Ready player one, 300 duology (yes old movies in 5.1 but work fantastically with the upmixers), Blade runner(s) all really sound great.
(sorry for the long introduction).

Now i'm considering upgrading my Receiver, and both Denon 4400 & this Marantz sr7012 are on my radar :

1- Using the Analog 7.1 inputs on Marantz (i have an Oppo 203 hat i wanna leverage it's DAC with a few SACDs), can i set the input on Marantz to have HDMI for video, and the Analog 7.1 for Audio ? (i like listening to my music while watching non-verbal movies, and extreme nature documentaries... they don't distract me from my listening joys).

I know that for My Denon X1300 it's not possible, you can only mix Video ins and Audio ins (legacy inputs), however i did achieve it on one particular mix : HDMI from Laptop to Receiver, Denon Input was set to HDMI, and Audio in simultaneously (plugged my turntable into the audio ins), and i switched laptop audio output to internal soundcard rather than HDMI, so basically Laptop was sending Video only, and it did work, Sound was coming from Turntable (Audio Input on Denon) and Video from Laptop. Anyone knows if this limitation is still present on the SR7012 ?

2- Since analog outputs of Oppo will only be used with Music, i appreciate how Denon & Marantz handle Movies soundtracks, so i will be using Oppo's HDMI out for all video viewings. Now i will have to go into Oppo and Turn HDMI output On/Off depending on the need, is this something that can be handled by Logitech Harmony ?

3- I'm not really familiar with the HDAM, but from reading your comments above and few other links, i believe these got to do with the pre-amp section of the Marantz, does it mean that in order to take advantage of em, one needs to use those pre-amps and send them to an external Amp ?

4- Finally this sr7012 is imax enhanced certified, as my Sony A9F, have you guys used this combination ? any Video gain over HDR ? i know that audio is processed by the receiver so that's gonna be done by Marantz.

Thanks a lot.

Wouldn't the Fry's deal on the Denon X4500 for $899 be a better deal?

Its a newer model versus this Marantz that is on closeout
I suspect that under the skin these Denon and Marantz are the same unit with minor tweaks( mostly cosmetic)...as I believe they are both built by a third party( Sherwood) in Vietnam

I like they the marantz has multi channel analogue inputs so I can connect my Oppo and use its DACs. This, for me, edges out the similar Denon.

Know what's crazy? I was looking at the Marantz 6012 and watching that price. This post made start watching Amazon closer to see if the 6012 would lower since it was now the same price as the 7012. Instead, the 6012 now shows as 50$ MORE than the 7012, it's gone up! And it's more than the higher model number now. What in the heck??

I ordered the 7012 on the day I saw this special and just got it today. Great deal! My local Best Buy and favorite audio store are still selling them for $2200. Can't wait to hook it up tonight. It will be replacing a Yamaha Aventage RX-A880 which I'll move into my office/guest room.
